Yeah, best team to ever get lucky to beat Boston College- give me a break. They had a lot of future NFL players, but they were not an all time college football team.
Listen to that BC crowd chant "overrated" after Reed took it to the house, on a team that is now considered one of the greatest in history, that shit's hilarious
K. dot I have been wacthin college football since 89 .don't get me wrong that 01 Miami team was good.but they really haven't played anybody that year. The 87 Miami team was way better because that team had more competition
James Jones Dude, stop talking bullshit. Miami played Florida State, Syracuse and Washington, all ranked teams. They beat Syracuse and Washington in back to back weeks and obliterated both. They beat the No. 2 team Nebraska. No wait, they didnt beat them. They dominated them. Your stuff aint the truth. Its hot garbage.
Holy S*** does this game ever bring back memories. Both my father and i screaming yelling and spitting and pleading for miami to stop this drive by the eagles. And kaboom Walters catching the deflection pass. And the Edward (The Hurricane) Reed taking the ball one handed all the way to a touchdown and the victory. What a year, What a game, And what a Team. GO CANES!!!!
I'm a big BC fan, was about 14 when this game aired. I remember dropping to my knees and wanting to cry on that Ed Reed TD. I knew it was too good to be true for BC to even be in this game. I'll always remember this game though.
Fucking Loving watching these 2001 games. I've sat here all day watching the full 2001 season thanks to you man.!!! I appreciate it.! What a team.!!! OMG, it is truly incredible.!!! I have enjoyed reading all the comments at the end of every video.! I started with the championship and one by one watched every game of the 2001 season. Thanks
Listen to all these butthurt clowns about shoulda woulda coulda. Sometimes in life, you're a champion who finds a way to overcome adversity when your dream seems to all but have slipped away. And sometimes you're Brian St. Pierre.
That it was. Just like Florida State is lucky Clemson decided to choke the game away this year, Ohio State was lucky to win about half their games at the last second and the PI call when they won the NC in 2002. Tennesse was lucky Clint Stoner stumbled and fumbled without being touched the year they won the NC. Auburn was lucky Michael Dyer wasn't down and Oregon thought he was. Winning the NC takes luck, nothing new.
A lot of times it does take some luck just because you have to be undefeated usually, I do think that Miami would have gone to the title game even if they lost to BC, they were that impressive most of the year. Miami of that year was the most talented team in history, but I also think they were in some ways an underachieving team because of the struggles against BC and VT. If you ask me, the best team in modern history was 1995 Nebraska, and the 2011 Alabama had the best defense.
Friggin Hurricanes...for a good 2-3 period in the early 2000s damn near the whole team went on to play in the NFL. Willis McGahee was Frank Gore's fullback.
Maybe I'm just biased, but who needs an offense when your defense is savage. Personally, I believe this Canes team went into this game with the idea.....that Special Teams and Defense is the only units allowed to impact the final score of the game. You don't think this Canes Offense could've scored at will against that porous defense of Boston College? The Canes were making a statement.....we will crush your sole in this game, by restricting our offense to field goals and putting our defense with the sole responsibility of winning.....PERIOD. And man did those Canes Boys show up big time!!!
With a starting defensive unit that were "underclassmen" freshman Vince Wilfork and sean Taylor. A offensive freshman running back in Frank Gore red shirt freshman Willis McGahee
@canefreak2001 Very true... Look at the Pitt game we had.... when Jacory threw his first touchdown.... Those guys didn't seem a bit excited.... GO CANES!!!!!
@PlayboiX122 Yeah, My 63 year old dad has been a Cane fan since the football program started. He said after the []_[] began its rise to the top, that Musberger always sounded like he was annoyed by their success.
I was at this game as a kid. Even after all these years, it's still the most exciting game I've been to even though the team I was rooting for lost. Too bad you didn't show Dorsey's 4 picks or Gore's fumble. Also at the 10 minute mark in the 4th, the BC kicker shanked a 28 yard chip shot which would have only required a FG instead of a TD tor BC to win the game. Unbelievable they were even in it though.
This game nearly gave me a heart attack, UM dominated but were just out of sync could not punch it in and put BC away, the play at the end was more relief
i loved these years in college football... im a BC fan but they had some big wins over ND and always played Miami and Florida St hard. but lets be real for a second if this Miami team was ND, Florida, Alabama, LSU or USC we would never stop hearing about them. the Canes' from 1999-2005 were unstoppable. Vince Wilfork, Ed Reed, Clinton Portis, Shockey, Johnson, Lewis and about every other dominant defender in the NFL right now. BC always had Miami beat w/ QBs tho (M. Ryan, the Hasselbecks, Flutie
But they were blown out by Colorado (who also Miami would put a lot of points on) in the final game of the season, as someone from Illinois though, come to think of it, Illinois got smoked by Michigan by 25, Miami would've put 80 on the Illinois to spite them. Nebraska (I liked Solich as a coach and Crouch as a player but as a program you have to win your conference and especially your division)
Nebraska shouldn't have even been in that national championship at all. Colorado, Oregon, Illinois, and LSU won their conferences, all of them deserved to play Miami for the title because they captured their respective conference titles
Bryan Kinney Yep, it's sad how Miami fans can't thank anyone else in football for their luck. It's like 2007 LSU's championship- a ton of other teams needed to screw up for them to claim the title. They've had only 2 undefeated seasons and of those two seasons only beat 1 team (1987 OU) worthy of a championship game (2001 Nebraska didn't even win their division and got blown the fuck out by Colorado. Nobody even mentions 2001 Colorado as a great team.) They weren't even the best team in Florida in 1983 and 1989.
Frank Champion I don't live in Tallahassee. But props to you for being so butthurt to respond to a 2-year-old comment from someone with "that sad life."
This and the Virginia Tech game are why I laugh when anyone says this Miami team was the greatest ever. 1995 Nebraska would’ve beaten them by five touchdowns.
This Miami team had a talented roster, but they were NOT the GOAT. People need to watch the games instead of simply drooling over the names on the back of the jerseys... Boston college had a 1st and Goal, trailing 12-7 late, and threw an unfortunate pick-six off of a deflection. The Canes were on the ropes against this crappy BC team AND a crappy VTech team. Greatest of all time is 1995 Nebraska. Period.
pat442389 Miami was unstoppable from 1999 to 2005? Are you just making shit up? If they're so unstoppable why do they have only one championship from that time period instead of 7 or at least 5?
Well in 2000 the computers snubbed Miami from playing in the NC. Miami and FSU were both 11-1 and Miami had beaten FSU in their head-to-head matchup. All the polls had Oklahoma and Miami 1-2. But for some reason the computers had FSU #2 and they got to play Oklahoma instead of Miami. In 2002, Miami beat Ohio State in the title game. However, on the last play in OT one of the refs a few seconds after the play, while the team was running on the field celebrating their win, called pass interference on a Miami CB. The replay shows there was clearly no pass interference and that Miami got screwed. It's a pretty famous controversial play. You should look it up. Miami could have very easily won 3 straight NC's from 00-02.
Matt Ubben That just means they were very stoppable. It doesn't refute my point. FSU had a much harder schedule and Miami shouldn't have lost to Washington if they wanted to be in the championship game. Miami's schedule was weak and FSU had the better loss. The replay does show defensive holding, which yields the same result: 1st and goal. Even with that score, Miami had another shot and blew it. The final score should have been 17-14 OSU but whatever. The result was correct.
encycl07pedia So you're just gonna forget about their head-to-head matchup? They played each other and Miami won. Clearly Miami was the better team that year. It can't get anymore obvious than that. If you can't get that through your head I don't know what will. Your unwillingness to see the obvious shows you're probably a FSU fan. And their schedule's were actually fairly similar. Miami played 3 ranked teams including #1 and #2 in the nation. FSU played 4 ranked teams with their best ranked win against #4 UF. They were snubbed it's just that simple. And yes, Miami did indeed get screwed. There was no holding on that play. Both teams were playing rough all night with no calls, why change your consistency on the last play? The ref called pass interference and there clearly wasn't any. Miami got hosed, clear as day.
Matt Ubben Miami wasn't clearly the better team. They won by 3 whole points at home against FSU due to another missed FG. Put it on a neutral site or Doak and who wins? Who knows? Let me guess- you think Georgia Southern was clearly the better team than UF last year, too. When the hell did Miami play themselves in an actual game? They finished #2 that year and most definitely did not play #1 OU. They definitely lost to #3 Washington (pre-bowl) which is a worse loss than against #2 Miami or #1 OU. And again, that still doesn't refute the point that Miami was very stoppable from 1999-2005 (2005 was when they finished 9-3 and didn't even win their division). Quit trolling, Gator fan. You're a moron.
encycl07pedia Let me guess- you're an FSU fan. That's the only logical conclusion after reading that moronic post. Face it, a head-to-head matchup is the only logical way to settle who should have been in the NC in 2000. If FSU was better than Miami that year, then they would've beaten them. FSU's inept kicking game isn't Miami's fault. And you can't play the what if game either cause we don't know who would've won if the game was at Doak or a neutral site. You can't just assume FSU would've won, that would be insane and ignorant. What we do know however is that Miami beat FSU. My god you're an idiot. Miami beat FSU, who was #1 at the time, and VT, who was #2 at the time. Try doing some research before you post so you don't look like an fucking moron. Seriously, it isn't that hard. Just look up the wiki page of the 00 Miami team. It isn't that hard. I never said Miami was unstoppable from 99-05. I said they could've easily won 3 straight NC from 00-02. If they don't get snubbed in 2000 and Terry Porter doesn't make that late call on non-existent pass interference, Miami could have won 3 straight. That 2001 in particular was arguably the greatest team of all-time. It was by far the most-talented team ever assembled. Clinton Portis, Willis McGahee, Frank Gore, Andre Johnson, Johnathan Vilma, DJ Williams, Vince Wilfork, William Joseph, Ed Reed, Philip Buchanan, Jeremy Shockey, Kellen Winslow Jr. Talk about stacked. Lol, I'm smarter than you and it bothers you. There's a reason people who get rejected by UF go to FSU. ;)
Kind of sad how you canes fans have to live in the past. Why is it that as soon as miami moved to the ACC (a weak conference in itself) not one conference title. Even FSU kicks your ass every year. Ya'll used to at least make the games close and hope they'd miss a game winning chip shot field goal to the right. Or win national championships only because Tom Osbourn (1983) and Bobby Bowden (1987) both had the balls to go for the win instead of the tie. You guys should be more grateful. tsk tsk
Get The Fuck OUTTA HERE! 4 years after your comment and the Canes have turned their program around while FSU and UF are in the trash....Lucky and Good... Sometimes you have to get lucky.. Get Fuck OUTTA HERE with over rated shit, loser say shit like that. Every Given Saturday you can have a blowout or close one.
They had every right to do so. If not for pure luck and a freak accidental interception inside miami's 10 which only occurred because the bc wr slipped on the slant route; not to mention a total dick move by ed reed stealing the ball from his own teammate (who happened to get a lucky int) just so he can act like a showboat and take all the glory for himself; the canes very well could have lost this one. Yep 2001 Miami the most overrated team in college football history.

Lmao... THIS is "the best college football team ever"? Zero offensive TD's against a Boston College team that lost three other games (ultimately 8-4), and bailed out at the very end while hanging on for dear life. OK, whatever... lol.
You had to see the 2001 Miami team to know. They ball hawked, dominated the o-line, made it difficult for any team to pick up a first down let alone establish a drive. The running game was excellent, and Boston College did everything to contain Portis in this game and make Dorsey win the game with his arm. Dorsey had an awful game, and that's why it was close. It always had the feel like Miami could blow it open at any time. BC wasn't a bad team. Along with the 1995 Nebraska team and 2012 Alabama team, the 2001 Canes were head and shoulders one of the best college teams ever.
Ed Reed says, "GIMME THAT BALL, I'M THE PLAYMAKER!!!!" Classic!!!

There's a reason people who get rejected by UF go to FSU. ;)

Good One!
oh yeah overrated huh...NC and won it easily no matter who we played
Every Given Saturday you can have a blowout or close one.
tired of that flutie shit everytime miami plays
@WarMachine2013 Yeah. Typical Bostonian behavior.

OK, whatever... lol.
Like 12 of the Miami players went on to be in the NFL and the most players on the same team to be picked in the 1st round of the draft
And every team has there close calls games
wait so beating a team on the road that went 8-3 in their other games is a negative ? LMAO
LMAO right. Meanwhile 95 Nebraska blows out 4 top 10 teams by record numbers.
