The "Hail Flutie" has to be one of the most impressive in-game throws ever at any level of football. About 64 yards (58.5m) in the air, at an estimated 44 mph (about 71 km/h; I estimate the ball was in the air about three seconds, from leaving Flutie's hand to Phelan catching it). All from a 5 foot, nine inches (1.75m), 177 lbs (80kg) athlete who, prior to the final throw, had attempted 45 passes, completing 33 of them, for 424 yards. Incredible.
Living in Nashville at the time of this game, our CBS TV affiliate did not air this game. Instead, the station aired some old movie so that a sponsor could sell windows.
