my UNPOPULAR OPINION on kbeauty in 2024 (let’s be real)

  • What happened to the creative direction of kbeauty brands? Nowadays every brand is going for the effortless, minimal, beige aesthetic and let's be real - it's getting less inspiring to look at. It's the same colour palettes: spring, summer, fall, winter personal colour. There's only a couple of brands I still actively follow but maybe i'm a "recovering shopper-holic" so lowkey I'm kinda seeing through all of the repetition.

    It's true that all looks so similar and when you have one pink-coral palette you have all . C-Beauty right now is where you can find different things like in the brand GirlCult

    I totally agree. The colour trends, the product formulas, it's all very similar. Etude seems to be doing some cute throwbacks like the cassette tape and retro gaming packaging. Also the one interesting recent Clio palette is the Orchid Cloud one, which happens to be the one I own. I don't need another pale pink/lavender palette!

    • @itskrystle
      @itskrystle  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      right?? the cassette tape packaging only caught my eye cause :
      1. it was in collab with shinee
      2. i'm a shinee fan
      3. shinee did endorse etude back in 2013-2014 so calling it the "replay" collection was very fitting (cause their debut song was replay). buuuut the colour story was the same light washes of colour. i actually did manage to see the collection in person when i was in bangkok earlier in jan 2024 and when i swatched it, it was quite underwhelming.
      urghh, the orchid rose palette still occasionally lives rent free in my head. i still think about it once in awhile. 😭 how are you finding it so far? do you like the looks that you've created with it?
      edit: correction, i like the 10 season plum palette from clio. thats the one i like. (lmao i got them mixed up 😂) still, would love to hear your thoughts on it 🤍

      @@itskrystle The Orchid Cloud palette is good for going out at night looks bc it's more dark/saturated. The lighter greiges in it are also good for casual office looks. I like that you can make quite a few looks with it because of the saturation of the colours - the mattes work well in pairs, and the satiny/pearly shades are really nice but I haven't had a chance to use them much!

      i think it will be a little hard for kbeauty brands to go beyond light colours and beiges just because of the beauty trends. everyone wants to look ✨youthful and alive✨i would love to be proven wrong tho hahaha 😗moving forward, i'll definitely be checking out cbeauty brands for coloured products. a good majority of people here are recommending it! 🥰

    100% agree with you about more shades. Maybe something suitable for people with shade no.25 and up?
    Sometimes, the pallette marketed for cool tones are too ashy for the rest of us.
    Personally for me, western brands are either too expensive or simply not suitable for my skin. As for local brands, I'll rejoice on the day they actually catch up with or surpass korean formula. Need to wait for a few years.

      i have this one palette from cbeauty indie brand narimi and their shadows are VERY pigmented. more like pressed pigments than shadows 😂th-cam.com/video/OW7XZc1eyr4/w-d-xo.htmlsi=NyLddDfp3If4LExw

    Kbeauty these days is definitely showing the way Koreans follow trends and how quickly 😞 I think it's been such a huge thing in Korea ever since (that's why I'm more of a Japan girly just in general even if I like Kbeauty more til recently 😅). However, we just see it more blatantly recently due to the internet. I suggest CBeauty for you to try! They're more adventurous and varied!

    Ever since I found out my personal color I like my overall look a lot more and I take my personal color into consideration especially when buying clothes or picking an outfit.
    However I feel like it can get really bland the moment we focus tooooooo much on it when it comes to makeup.
    I still love my light pinks but I’m not nearly as strict anymore because I felt a lot of the times I was doing the exact same and felt uncreative?
    And I think my appetite for it kinda faded when kbeauty brands started to release nothing but the same old color stories.
    I don’t need 5 palettes that fit into my summer cool type. Just got tired of seeing the same over and over again 🫠🥺
    Which is why I was very happy to see Rom&nd‘s newest Black Spectrum collection. Yes there were some neutrals to choose from but the black quad I found looked very cool! 🫶🏻

      omggg, can i say, the whole mbti thing doesnt really make sense to me 💀
      i mean sure it's fun to have rough gauge of who you are as an individual and maaaybe it would translate to your makeup style. but if i wanna wear blue eyeshadow and im a injf, it's literally none of their business if i wear blue eyeshadow. makeup literally depends on your preference and mood.

  • @marinowy8998

    The good thing about is that we save money and have the opportunity to use up the products we already have. But the repeating colours are really boring...also I don't mind if the brands cater to colour seasons but for example I'm a light summer and the only colours K beauty brands want me to wear are light pink and light beige. But there are so many more colours in the world😂. For spring seasons there are only orange-y shades and for winter dark brown/plum shades and so on😅

    • @itskrystle
      @itskrystle  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      hahaha! yes, we do save money 😉right?? oh! i'm a light summer too and found that teal and navy actually looks good on me. i sometimes go onto pinterest to get some colour inspo.
      then again, i think it's also because of the beauty standards where everything has to look ✨natural and lively✨ so that's probably why coloured products are either ashy or 50 shades of beige

  • @yenee94
    @yenee94 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    I'm Korean and I am sooo bored of K beauty. Also as a darker skinned Korean (shade 25 in k beauty terms) than your average Korean (or what k beauty brands think is the average skin tone), it's so frustrating to go to olive young and only find shades 17-23, and not only that sooo many eyeshadows and blushes show up like chalk on my face. Like, where is the pigmentation?? Which is why I'm getting more into western brands especially with eye shadows and cheeks especially. The only korean beauty brand that I thought had proper pigmentation in their eyeshadows is milktouch, and that's only with some of their palettes not all.

    • @itskrystle
      @itskrystle  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      thank you for sharing! which eyeshadow palette have you tried from milktouch? i would love to check out a pigmented kbeauty shadow palette.
      i hear you, i prefer western eyeshadows too. it just shows up so much better and there's a wider variety of colours and finishes in different undertones.

    • @yenee94
      @yenee94 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@itskrystle Okay, so I just swatched all 4 of my Milktouch shadow palettes to compare, and I'd say out of the 4 I have (Berry Macaron, Sugar Croffle, Ash Kitty, and Golden Puppy), number one most pigmented palette is Berry Macaron which is a pastel purple and pink palette, and then Ash Kitty (a smokey palette that has white, grey moss green, black, etc) is the 2nd most pigmented (2 out of 10 colors had mediocre pigmentation). I'd say this brand's eyeshadows have pretty decent pigment payoff overall, compared to whiteish eyeshadows that brands like Dasique make.

    After getting more into kbeauty and amassing several different palettes that used to excite me I learned that its a widespread experience for every beauty consumer to hit a roadblock when it comes to finding ingenuity from popular brands. Like the more we become familiar with the trends and color stories the more inevitable every release is going to feel the "same". This is also a common occurrence in the western beauty sphere it doesnt seem possible for brands to stay refreshing forever once their consumer base gets used to everything they drop. As a primary consumer of kbeauty I can see why brands keep releasing and reskinning the same color stories because I honestly have not touched my more colorful palettes in forever. When at first I bought them thinking I could use more variation in my collection.
    Whenever I am in a situation that calls for makeup I will realistically reach out for my neutrals. Down the line of kbeauty collecting I just accepted that I am a neutral daily makeup kind of makeup wearer. So personally I can see why the releases look so repetitive (I havent bought a new palette in a long time) but at the same time I am not gonna buy palettes with crazy color stories because that's just not my style and they would just collect dust in my collection. Every person getting into makeup for the first time will be excited to collect all the possible color combinations but eventually we figure out which color works best for us and which ones don't. It's a funny situation...the more aware we become of our preferred colors the more we fixate on those type of products which I think leads to makeup releases feeling more repetitive. Good on Chinese brands for releasing not so typical color stories but I am not dying to buy them because those colors will not work on me. To me its the Korean brands preferring practicality over innovation and playing it safe will always bring the most profit. Even though long time kbeauty fans will feel bored of recent releases there will ALWAYS be a newcomer getting excited by them because we were all at that stage once in our lives haha.
