I was at my local shopping centre one evening a few years ago and a saxophone busker started playing this. Everyone in the street just randomly started singing. There were people in cafes. That was pretty incredible. I think it’s an odd and wrong thing to criticize any of the thousands of different versions of “Hallelujah”. Leonard Cohen’s complete version, which was rarely performed in it’s entirety because it contains around 80 different verses. Can you just imagine not being on the outside but inside in the middle of this choir. What a moving experience having so many sing together like this. Beautiful!
Every time I listen to this song, it brings me to tears. I was raised that men don’t cry blah blah blah. I remember my dad received a Christmas gift from my mom one time that he was so moved by that he left the room in the middle of opening presents to regain his composure before he came back a few minutes later. I have listened to this song every few months for years now and it has brought me to tears every time.
This song ALWAYS strikes a cord. I am not, and never will be a religious person. With that said this song speaks to my soul, to me as a human being and I absolutely love it!

Robin Abraham sorry, this is not really unison. It is so much more interesting because of the different timing and cording against the soloist. I know, picky. But the cording is so gorgeous!
Wow, nitpickers, I believe Robin meant singing the same song together in one place at the same time. Immediately people try to wipe out her positive comment by zeroing in on a single word. I'm guessing you both knew what Robin meant.

I love to see people come together as one big group of humans. No walls, no division, no secret motives, just being together and sharing a moment as one. Love it!
@countrygraphics - But the song is based on Christian religious figures...it talks of David, Samson, Delilah, and Bathseba. It could be seen how someone who finds themselves opposed to religion could draw conclusions.
Humans coming together (with their voices in this case) has to be the most beautiful thing. Just shows how beautiful humanity can be if we just work together
PLEASE READ...I’m 14 and I got rejected over the summer. And being home all the time and not spending time with friends might have gotten me a kinda depressed. This song has lifted my spirits and hopes of what I can achieve in high school. If you can give me any words of encouragement, that would be greatly appreciated. thanks and never change who you are!

Getting rejected hurts. And I think it hurts even more when you’re young. You will survive this, and someday you’ll hardly remember it. The best years of your life are ahead of you. Make the most of them and remember that you get out of life what you put into it. All the best to you!!
I'll tell you there are lots of folks who are in choirs in that group. That hesitation in the echoing of the verse starting at the fourth line is kinda tricky and the note values were spot on, where Rufus as the lead singer may (and did) deviate from exact note values .
Beautiful...I love Rufus. He came to our town in England, with a full orchestra. Magical. It was the night before the whole country went into lockdown mode because of Covid. Bless him and all those singers who joined him in Toronto to sing this awesome rendition of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. Thank you for sharing this here CCC!
It's OK, I'm not either. It's not really a religious song, though, at least not in the traditional sense. (Listen to the lyrics again!) But this was an extraordinarily moving performance.
i wish my late husband, Glennoch was here to hear this... he was an amazing muscian & singer (perfect pitch, could sing from bass to high falsetto) but *always* encourged everyone to sing regardless of their ability (especially me lol). he believed raising your voice in song was an act of magic & faith.

The only true name of the Savior of the world is YAHSHUA! “Therefore, since we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we do not lose heart. But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them. For we do not preach ourselves, but the Christ YAHSHUA the Lord...” (2 Corinthians 4:1-5). Halleluyah means, “Praise YAH!” Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; ‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song; He also has become my salvation’” (Isaiah 12:2 NKJV). YAH, which means ‘I AM’, in Hebrew, and this is the name which is above every name revealed to Moses (Exodus 3:13-15). Christ acknowledged that His name is YAH, as in “YAH Saves,” which is the revealed name YAHSHUA (see Matthew 1:21, for He will save His people), because He has the name which is above every name. For He said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM {YAH}” (John 8:58). Jesus, Iesus, Iesous, Yeshua, Isa, Hey-zeus, are counterfeit names for they lack “YAH.” “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). The Heavenly Father revealed the Savior’s name: “YAHSHUA.” [YAH = I AM, Shua = Salvation, thus YAHSHUA.] The apostle Paul, on the road to Damascus, encountered the Savior, who introduced His name to him in Hebrew as “YAHSHUA” (Acts 26:12-16). The apostle Paul heard in Hebrew Christ revealed His name as YAHSHUA, and Paul hearing YAH actually wrote the one name, “Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of YAHSHUA every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that YAHSHUA the Christ is LORD, to the glory of God the Father” (Philippians 2:9-11). Halleluyah, Praise YAH, Praise YAHSHUA! YAHSHUA is the only name of salvation, and the gospel warns us not to reject His name: “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God” (John 3:16-18). The Savior’s name is YAHSHUA, and because there is no other name, any other names are counterfeits [not including titles, such as El Shaddai, or Emmanuel], and these counterfeit names are because: “Satan, deceives the whole world” (Rev. 12:9). “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it” (Matthew 7:13-14). “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). Believe in the revealed name YAHSHUA and forsake all other names.
I'm not religious either but this is so spiritual. Shows we all need and WANT TO to come together in a positive manner, no matter who we are or where we're from. We belong together. Let's get rid of the negativity and push this flow of positive momentum onward! xxx
As a musician, and I think all musicians would agree, we hear music differently to people who aren't. We FEEL music, it resonates through every fibre of our very soul. Music, to us, is a direct line to our souls. Let me tell you something, this REALLY resonated within my soul. Absolutely beautiful, I was literally brought to tears as a wave of goosebumps flowed down my neck, through my back and caused my whole body to feel this music. A pure reaction to how this music touched my soul. I never even had to watch the video to feel what the choir were feeling. Absolutely wonderful arrangement, gorgeous execution. Beautiful! You should be very VERY proud.
Thank you so much for uploading this. This December 15th will mark ten years since my Dad passed away. As a young man in the 1950`s, fresh out of high school in New Brunswick, a relative brought him to Ontario where better job opportunities lay. His first job was in this very plant. From here, he worked and studied his way up through all of the classifications, then university, until he achieved his PEng, pinkie ring and all, and even had his own engineering company. I had never seen this plant before and while watching the video, I was able to imagine my Dad as a much younger man, working/walking around the building. This meant a lot to me so again, thank you.
Tara Home Gosh, Tara, now THAT had me crying! 😢 Our Dads are the Heroes that forever stand tall. They protect us when we are young. Protect our roots as we spread our wings and guide us back to safety in times of need. Then they selflessly let go, so we can be who we are meant to be. I thought my Dad knew everything; though he admitted he didn't. I thought he was indestructible; though I'd seen him bleed. I thought he was forever. Cancer is cruel and now he is a shadow of the giant in my mind's eye. But, he smiles for me & say he feels great...for his little girl. The way you talk about your Dad, I can tell; he was your hero, too. 🙄
This might be from 2016 but we need this right now in 2020. No virus can ever break the human spirit. Stay strong everyone and remember this too shall pass. Praying you are safe and well everywhere. God bless!!
I love to end my day by listening to this. It is the best way to end the day. I love to sing along an pretend I'm at the concert., see you tomorrow night

Speaks to your soul… sounds quite religious
@@georgecav you can be spiritual without being religious. It's just a form of agnosticism.
@@andrewbeecroft6509 if you are agnostic that means you don't have a belief either way whether or not you have a spirit or there is a higher order. If on the other hand you mean you do believe in a higher order but just not one described by human beings and organised religion that makes perfect sense to me
@@georgecav the last one. Not sure there's a proper term for it, agnostic seems to fit as I'm not convinced that any of our religions are correct but I want to believe there's more to our existence.
So, you know I'm not religious. If anything I think most of our planet's problems are rooted in religion. But I still think we have a soul. So I kinda see where op is coming from.
Concuerdo contigo, te toca el alma.
Agree. The world is a mess right now but I have faith we will turn it around

This really moved me... Its shows how strong people can be when they're connecting. Take care everybody and stay healthy. One love.

@Corie Johnson So true. I also cry when I hear a 'real soul singer'. It's coming in like thunder and light(ning).

Just a guitar and 1500 people singing in unison.. I can't stop listening to this song
Robin Abraham sorry, this is not really unison. It is so much more interesting because of the different timing and cording against the soloist. I know, picky. But the cording is so gorgeous!
Definitely not unison!
Wow, nitpickers, I believe Robin meant singing the same song together in one place at the same time. Immediately people try to wipe out her positive comment by zeroing in on a single word. I'm guessing you both knew what Robin meant.
I can't stop listening to it myself everyone who sings it I tap on to it it just very beautifully done
San D she said something well, so the nit pickers have to tear it down. Not happy unless the do that.
Too bad we can only "like" this once!!!!

Today is february 8. 2020 and I m watching and listening this fantastic song from Leonard Cohen.
I live in Uruguay.
Greatings for all.
Poland. Music all over the world.
When you’re out there in this lonely world, nowhere to turn, no one to listen, reached for your last string of hope and believe you’re all alone… remember, God loves you, and so do I. God is everything…I’m just a plus one :)
The choir is glorious, but I really like Rufus Wainwright's singing. He's so relaxed, but never becomes unmusical.
I feel like too many people would be crying for this to be accurate.
Indeed... goosebumps and tears ... amazing!
That was my thought exactly. I kept looking for tear-jerkers.
It was filmed in June 2016 so there was no need for tears then.
yes, really sad.
...and they would have been rehearsing for some time and truly focused on the singing. I sang with a choir for a decade, you rehearse and focus on yourself and the other voices and the conductor. This is the final performance for the camera. Enjoy the beauty of it, don't doubt that beauty XX

Hi Tina, how's your day going with you?
Music is proof that God exists. It is one of his greatest gifts to mankind
God is people's inspiration.
I am an anti-theist, and I don't really care for music but this is one of my favorite songs. This rendition sends shivers down my spine.
It has nothing to do with religion
+countrygraphics but they have to tell us, ya know?
@countrygraphics - But the song is based on Christian religious figures...it talks of David, Samson, Delilah, and Bathseba. It could be seen how someone who finds themselves opposed to religion could draw conclusions.
+Sarah Underwood Well, maybe, sorta Christian. The figures are actually Old Testament Jewish, which is fitting, since Cohen is/was Jewish.
That is actually very true :)
So beautiful choirs! I can listen to this song a million times. I pray everyone is happy. No more war!
I don’t know how many times I’ve watched this. Such a great rendition of Hallelujah.

Vincent Jones remember you’re just 14. You gotta whole life ahead of you and a solid 10 years before you should be finding the right girl. Spend time with people you enjoy being around
Thank you for the advice I appreciate it
Be strong ! Heads up! NEVER give up Vincent ! Remember... you are a child of the Universe, like me,77 years old and standing firm up to end ! Don't give up !!!!

Getting rejected hurts. And I think it hurts even more when you’re young. You will survive this, and someday you’ll hardly remember it.
The best years of your life are ahead of you. Make the most of them and remember that you get out of life what you put into it.
All the best to you!!
Regular people voices stirring the ancient dust most delightfully. Regular faces most beautiful.
they're singers
They are members of the general public who came to an open choir rehearsal/performance.
Daniel, what a beautiful comment.
I'll tell you there are lots of folks who are in choirs in that group. That hesitation in the echoing of the verse starting at the fourth line is kinda tricky and the note values were spot on, where Rufus as the lead singer may (and did) deviate from exact note values .
It's very touchingly!
Simply stunning. Tears streaming my face.
Me too & in no way am i a religious person ... this was so emotional ..
Me too!
It's OK, I'm not either. It's not really a religious song, though, at least not in the traditional sense. (Listen to the lyrics again!) But this was an extraordinarily moving performance.
This is not even a religious song, believe it or not.

i wish my late husband, Glennoch was here to hear this... he was an amazing muscian & singer (perfect pitch, could sing from bass to high falsetto) but *always* encourged everyone to sing regardless of their ability (especially me lol). he believed raising your voice in song was an act of magic & faith.

Halleluyah means, “Praise YAH!”
Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid;
‘For Yah, the Lord, is my strength and song;
He also has become my salvation’” (Isaiah 12:2 NKJV).
Jesus, Iesus, Iesous, Yeshua, Isa, Hey-zeus, are counterfeit names for they lack “YAH.”
“Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12). The Heavenly Father revealed the Savior’s name: “YAHSHUA.” [YAH = I AM, Shua = Salvation, thus YAHSHUA.]
The apostle Paul, on the road to Damascus, encountered the Savior, who introduced His name to him in Hebrew as “YAHSHUA” (Acts 26:12-16).

Gosh, Tara, now THAT had me crying! 🙄
