    in 1959 Luanda was the most developed city in Africa. the people were richer than in Lisbon. The portuguese emigrate to Angola because it was more prosperous than portugal. imagine if Angola never went to civil war... it woul be the Norway of africa....

      That is true, I totally get the need for independence from Portugal, but that 30 year civil war had a really bad impact in the country. As an Angolan it’s really sad to see pictures of Angola in the 60s vs today cause it was more developed back then, sure we have more technology now, but the government, the infrastructures, public services, etc. they were definitely better organized. Anyways just gotta keep having hope, hopefully the future leaders will be better than the current

    Great video but there are a few things to brush up. The most important of which is the falsity that the slave trade, especially in Angola was completely permitted by the kingdoms and tribes that inhabited the land over the centuries. One example of this is the letters from an early Manikongo (King) to European powers asking for them to negotiate with the Portuguese about stopping the trading and abduction of Kongo peoples via the use of mercenaries in neighbouring states (since the population of the Kongo kingdom in the 16th century was beginning to dwindle due to the political situation both inside and surrounding the region - Kongo at this time couldn't afford to lose more people).
    I just believe it's important to clarify this in detail since the false perception originally pushed by colonialists of many years ago that the Atlantic slave trade was completely permitted is so prevalent. Especially within Africa, and also Angola (where I'm from) because of how destructively it has and does affect the population psychologically.
    Thank you for taking the time to read on Angola's history and making a digestible video (since its history is one that you have to really scour to find) and also outlining its future potential positively - hope to see more vids!

    • @gs4431
      @gs4431 4 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@melania3558 Hi Melania, I don't have many books or novels I can point you to since most of my knowledge stems from research papers and conversations with family then fact-checking because we're Angolan/Bantu ourselves. A place with good breadth of research papers on the Bantu region is Cambridge University's Journal of African History: www.cambridge.org/core/journals/journal-of-african-history so that's the best place to start - another really good place when it comes to culture itself about Africa (historically speaking) as a whole is the youtube channel HomeTeam History. Another for Africa during post-independence is NewAfrica (just make sure you fact check things from time to time since TH-camrs are humans as well and we all have the ability to go wrong or be biased when it comes to our information, no matter how "smart" we may be or sound).

      Já eu, ao invés de os agradecer, culpo-os por todos os males causados aos Angolanos. Sempre soubemos que, mesmo com o A. Neto, o MPLA tinha de chegar a um consenso com os outros partidos políticos que lutaram para a independência de Angola e não simplesmente proclamar a independência em Luanda, tal como fizeram. Os males começaram ali. Ademais, o MPLA nunca soube gerir as riquezas de Angola em prol dos angolanos e sempre enriqueceram-se à si e à sua família. Dizem que o País é democrático, mas o partido que ocupa o poder está lá há mais de 40 anos, isto contradiz tudo.

    I think you forgot to mention king leopold of belgium who caused a 15 million Congolese/Bantu genocide. Lastly, the Bantu migration was because of slavery. When you talk about people selling their own you have to talk about Leopold’s of Belgium techniques he’d use. For example, he’d put a South African leader in charge of the people but that person was taking orders from him. Don’t tell His-STORY tell HISTORY WHICH SHOULD BE BOTH SIDES OF THE STORY.

They wanted to do this because In history they never could find a white civilization in Africa. All they could find is remains of the Shona tribe which was a tribe built by the Kalanga people formed kingdoms on the Zimbabwe plateau. Which where Bantu Congolese people.

The only people doing chattel slavery were the Christians and this started later on in the 17 and 18th century. This slavery ways where not the norm

    It’s kind of messed up how you’re trying to excuse the European slave trade in Africa. The people were often kidnapped with NO ONE’S consent, and the times that humans were traded like inanimate objects with the consent of their people is still wrong on the part of the buyer/seller. That’s like someone selling their child in the human trafficking underground, but we let the buyer off the hook because it was the parent doing the selling.

    • @caborabassa696
      @caborabassa696 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Besides, if there is a selling that is because there is a demand. As you mentioned when it comes to child trafficking. The parents certainly would not be able to sell their children if there was no one asking to buy them.

    The language in this video is so critically corrupted. Notice how you’re clever enough to differentiate the cultural identities existing within Angola at the time, but when you address how the BAKONGO (people of the Kongo kingdom), traded slaves with the Portuguese, you just say Angolans. This is how you manipulate language. There was no Angola back then. Modern day Angola has so many Joe kingdoms to the south. The Ndongo were rebels to the Congo. That’s why they had no mercy in selling who they saw as enemies. And, no, african societies and government forms had SERVANTS, like everywhere else. Not slaves, that word slaves is often thrown into the African context by European apologetics aiming to equate the gravity of their deed in Africa with African forms of governance. And that’s quite shameful. Otherwise great Video. Lol
