Hi Yulia, I can relate so much. My wife and I (in our 50s) left the US and retired early to Portugal 5 months ago. Beautiful house, financially secure, amazing view, Spain across the river….but I’ve been struggling with it and not sure why. Maybe I just miss being an American in my home country. Anyway, trying not to overthink it. This is my wonderful tarmac to experience all of Europe for awhile, knowing I can always go back. But will going back home be the answer to happiness???? Man, life can be complicated, just when you think it just got easy!! Love your videos. Peace! ❤

This was so brave. How do we rediscover and maintain who we are in new places? Whether sports, art, volunteering, or whatever, it's when we pop out of our shells and participate in our Portuguese community that things start to click. Standing ovation to you!!!

Totally agree with you Yulia, actually any immigration project is pretty hard to face on. I left my hometown to move me to the capital and I crossed for all those phases you mention. Now I’m planning to go to Canada, I hope to be a little prepared to face this new life better than my last 6 years in the capital of my country, however I’m sure every change brings difficulties. I’m going to take in account all your advices ❤ a lot of love for you to succeed with Portugal with the time ✨🍃

Thank you Yulia for this video. We are going to visit Portugal in October, in 4 weeks and we are considering moving there next summer. I am already feeling sad about leaving my family in Florida, my whole family is here and I don;t know if I can be that far away. This helped me to see that you still have a connection to those in Montreal. Good luck to you, we love your videos because of how you break it down to real life there. Thank you

Yulia thank you for sharing your deeply personal experience. I really think in doing so you have helped many people who may be going thru the same struggles. Letting others know that their struggles are not unique is very powerful. It helps people understand that they are reacting normally to difficult circumstances. You wrapped it up beautiful at the end by sharing how you discovered the importance of 'living in the moment" and exercising gratitude. Circumstances come and go. they do not define your happiness. It is things like gratitude and living in the moment that you to truly live a good life. I wish you the best going forward

Now, I'm completing my 1st month in Portugal (with the seek work visa). It's good to know the things you don't like about Portugal and have them in consideration. I can relate a lot, moving from Moscow to Vancouver hit me hard, and 2 years in I finally start enjoying it. Therapy definetely helped lol
Also, decided to never ever again ignore the current moment and living in anticipation of the bright future. I did that just before moving to Canada, and it took 3 years of my life which - in the hindsight - I could have enjoyed much more. I started planning my next moving from Canada, but at some moment it just clicked - I can enjoy life in here very much.

I wouldn’t postpone getting Canadian citizenship. Immigration laws could change. First thing - first (IMHO). I love Europe and appreciate European civilization so much and love Portugal too (3 visits were enough to understand - it’s not my shtick. Portugal is beautiful, NHR visa is appealing plus fast track to European paper, but depressing). Canadian passport… it worked for me and my kids.

    I feel your pain
My Brasilian wife and I moved back to Brasil in 2018 from Florida, planning on 6 months, still here after 5 years. Bought a condo, car etc and settled in.
I miss some things of life I had in Florida
I am lucky where I live - Florianopolis - where I find highly educated people and one person per day who speaks english. Don't feel so isolated here like I did in other cities as where nobody spoke english.
Am headed back to Florida later this year to take some tech courses
