    Here's the vintage recipe for Bread and Butter pickles from the 1973 'Three Rivers Cookbook, The Good Taste of Pittsburgh'. Enjoy!💕
    RECIPE FROM THE COOKBOOK
    6 cups thinly sliced cucumbers, unpeeled
    1 lb. onions, sliced thinly
    1 green pepper
    ¼ cup salt
    2 cups white sugar
    ¼ tsp. ground cloves
    1 tbsp. mustard seed
    ½ tsp. celery seed (or more if desired)
    2 bay leaves
    2 cups cider vinegar
    Combine cucumbers, onion, and green peppers. Cover with cold water in large bowl for 3 hours, Combine sugar, salt, and vinegar in a pot, bring slowly to boiling point. Drain the vegetables thoroughly in a colander and pack in sterilized jars with spices. Pour the hot syrup over the vegetables.
    Yield: 4 pts.
