Aw. He skipped the magnums in TR1. Also the Shotgun in the 98 version of TR3 was modeled after a SPAS-12, but for some reason it's universal across all 3 in the remaster.
They used the same grenade launcher from TR2 for TR3 also, but it's supposed to be drum fed in TR3. It's probably an HK69 for TR2 since they didn't really know in the video.
According to Tomb Raider: Anniversary, Lara’s default pistols take the appearance of Colt M1911s, each with 20 round mags. But credit be due, Browning HPs do make more sense…
I did notice the remaster added more current modern features to her guns which you wouldn’t see in the 90’s, that desert eagle was definitely the major standout for me. It was very clearly the L5 edition which is magnum research’s attempt to make a very shootable semiautomatic (.357 specifically) magnum, hence all the weight reducing cutouts, fluted barrel which you only see on the lower caliber magnums, and integrated muzzle brake that all the deagles seem to have these days. The guy from demolition ranch really loved it, said he hardly felt any recoil at all. I was really hoping that for the duel magnums they would’ve given us a pair of LAR Grizzlys, just to give us some variety and the original magnums really look nothing like desert eagles. Whatever they’re supposed to be they have more of a classic John Browning design to them.
There are harpoon guns that can load multiple bolts though. The GoGun Scuba RInger loads two that can be shot before reloading. Granted, that was a recently release and I'm not sure if any multi-spear designs existed in 1996...
Nice video. The original game ran at 320x240 (or lower) and I think the over exaggerated recoil was to help for player readability at that low resolution. I think the same could be said for most of Lara's actions. Lara's old model was made up of like 500 polygons at most. Her hands were just cubes. Plus the first Tomb Raider game was made for the Sega Saturn as well, which made the polygon numbers more limited. I think the remasters did a good job overall. But I do not like the open magazine where you could see the bullets. I think the artists had to draw a line between keeping it kinda close to the originals, while giving everything an update.
PC had higher resolution option. But yeah, animations were done by hand and lead dev insisted that mocap wouldn't work with the precision they needed. Hence the grid system and exaggerated movements.
Ingrams not so much, but somebody did make a mirror-image 1911, long ago; I remember seeing it in either _Gun Digest_ or _Shooter's Bible_ back in the day. I think it was called the "Portsider". Being left-handed, I thought it would be cool to have one, but they were really expensive and presumably pretty rare.
High-rise scope mounts are an option in the firearms world, allowing the user to switch between their iron sights and optic instead of doing flip-up irons, offset irons, or co-witness.
I loved how in the commentary for the anniversary version of TR1, they mention that when they made the original game they were really pleased because the game barely involves any killing of people, but now it's ironic in that people today would consider how much animal killing they included to be way worse XD
12:25 They should have kept that straight magazine as it is both a reference to the original model and the fact straight magazines for MP5s exist (MP5/10).

I’d love to see Jonathan’s reaction to the Geera Zulu’s beam Machinegun, which is essentially an energy based, mecha STG-44. Also, Psyco Doga happens to have a weapon very reminiscent of the MP-44.
If a UC game was done, the Japanese 360 only Operation Troy would be the best option, since it's the only Gundam game I'm aware of with enough combined arms to use small arms.
I'm not a gamer but I always enjoy these rundowns and things like this and often chuckle because there are several times of actually owned Firearms featured in this like the MAC- 10. Although mine was in 45 AC and I've also owned about three different Browning Hi Powers if I remember correction one Browning made one one Argentine made one and one Hungarian made one.
Actually, just today I saw in the Maritime Museum in Athens (Piraeus) a speargun that seems tu use blank shotgun shells. So, Lara's spear gun without springs or rubber bands might be plausible, but not semiautomatic.
To give a bit more credit to Core Design, their weapons actually had more detail in the inventory. But for the game model, they reduced them to the bare minimum for obvious optimization purposes (and low resolutions would hide that)
Feels like it's been enough time that game developers are taking this series into account and may even be introducing quirks into their guns so Jonathan will talk about them more.
One day I'd like to see Johnathan take a peek at the Tec-22 in the .22 pistol pack mod for fallout 4, one of the most accurate ones I've seen. neat little gun.

@@classicgameguides I think pistol grips in all weapons are due to dev limitations, they didn't bother to give her hands that look natural holding anything but 90 degree angle sticks. the developers of the remasters took some shortcuts, the granade launcher and shotguns in tr2 and tr3 had in the original different models, while in the remastered they are the same. The tr3 shotgun was a spas 12 and the granade launcher had a drum magazin but the loading animation was the same. The automatic pistols in tr2 are probably a mix from different guns and had no real world analog.

To be fair, mirrored Hi-Powers aren't necessarily impossible, just potentially very expensive. It'll take a ton of fabrication work and custom parts manufacture, but Lara's rich and probably could afford it anyway.

I'd love to see Jonathan react to Receiver 2, the attention to detail in that game is insane
Would be cool if he took a look on the original medal of honor guns.
Actually, just today I saw in the Maritime Museum in Athens (Piraeus) a speargun that seems tu use blank shotgun shells. So, Lara's spear gun without springs or rubber bands might be plausible, but not semiautomatic.
I think Jonathan would get a kick out of Day of Defeat (the original), considering the really high amount of detail for its time
To give a bit more credit to Core Design, their weapons actually had more detail in the inventory. But for the game model, they reduced them to the bare minimum for obvious optimization purposes (and low resolutions would hide that)
Feels like it's been enough time that game developers are taking this series into account and may even be introducing quirks into their guns so Jonathan will talk about them more.
10:45 This looks like GM-93/94 Grenade Launcher
For anyone who is in their teens back in 1996, Lara Croft or Tanya Adams?
One day I'd like to see Johnathan take a peek at the Tec-22 in the .22 pistol pack mod for fallout 4, one of the most accurate ones I've seen. neat little gun.
I would like to see Jonathan reacting to the guns and other large weapons of Warframe
Those are some huge holsters, alright.
I wonder what Jonathan and Dave would have on Armored Core: VI’s weapons? I know it’s giant freakin robots, but we did get Titanfall 2 back in the day….
This is assuming they haven’t critiqued Armored Core: VI anyway.
I won't lie, I always thought Laura carried either 1911's or USP's. I never bothered to look it up later in life. It makes me happy that she's using one of my favorite handguns.
7:10 "strange little guns, these" would be nice to know what they are
Intratec TEC-22, also known as the Scorpion.
Those warheads are too big for that body frame.. but we never complained
Would love to see "Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, which houses thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history" react to the weapons of STALKER Gamma.
This is Jonathan Ferguson, saviour of Gamespot's channel, lol
I think the remastered grenade launcher may be modelled on shrunk down China Lake grenade launcher with sawed off stock.
HK69 would be the only grenade launcher with a pistol grip like that.
@@classicgameguides I think pistol grips in all weapons are due to dev limitations, they didn't bother to give her hands that look natural holding anything but 90 degree angle sticks. I mean in original game. It looked goofy when Lara held artifacts or books or typed on computer with those sharp fists.
No mention of the ejection ports on the 9mm’s being on opposite sides of each gun.
forgott to show the shotgun in tr3 it is spas12, and tr2 was 97 not 96, tr3 was was 98 :)
I'm interested in seeing the old game - Depth.
Divers vs. Sharks.
There are a lot of underwater weapons.
Try Depth
Love this man! I hope he is a specialist for game creators!
the developers of the remasters took some shortcuts, the granade launcher and shotguns in tr2 and tr3 had in the original different models, while in the remastered they are the same. The tr3 shotgun was a spas 12 and the granade launcher had a drum magazin but the loading animation was the same. The automatic pistols in tr2 are probably a mix from different guns and had no real world analog.
Those MAC 10s were actually quite faithfully rendered in 1996.
Please look at the firearms of the Assassin's Creed franchise! It would be really interesting to hear Jonathan talk about some older forms of firearms technology
Hilarious detail: The Browning High Powered guns eject casing to their respective sides. The left-hand gun is reverse design? 😂
In the spirit of retro shooters and doing the best with what they could, guns of Perfect Dark?
SOLDIER OF FORTUNE!
I can't believe that he's not calling out the fact that all the guns were mirrored between left and right hands
He sort of addresses it at 4:25
To be fair, mirrored Hi-Powers aren't necessarily impossible, just potentially very expensive. It'll take a ton of fabrication work and custom parts manufacture, but Lara's rich and probably could afford it anyway.
I would love to have him react to the weapons of Killzone 1. For example, the Helghast assault rifle is gorgeous but incredibly impractical.
Has he done brothers in arms ?
I would never have known the Automatic Pistols were modeled after something that exists lol
I always read them as 93Rs, didn't realize they were supposed to have mags in front of the trigger guard...
So uhhh. y'all should do Generation Zero! Lots of Swedish weapons, including some.... interesting... experimental versions of them!
Would love for you to look at goldeneye's sequel, perfect dark. That game has some wacky guns.
Nice Max Payne reference with the MAC 10 shot
day ??? of requesting Jonathon react to the guns of the Killzone franchise!
Absolute classics, love these games. Do you know what else I love? Criterion Games' 2006 "Black", would be nice to see Jonathan react to that game's weapons.
Great but you forgot about Magnums from TR1.
red stripe down the gun means it's the GTI version, which means it's a bit faster and way more expensive to insure.
