A very complete guide to Central Java Samuel & Audrey. I went to Yogyakarta last weekend. Spent a lot of time at the Sultan Kraton to watch the gorgeous Javanese dances.
I am from Klaten, a city located between Yogya & Solo, currently live in Japan Thanks to visit Yogya & Central Java. You need to come again to go swim in Umbul Ponggok, have a sunset/sunrise view in Rawa Jombor, Plaosan Temple, Menara Kudus, Masjid Agung Demak and other historical places in Yogyakarta & Central Java

Weren't there any Wayang performance in Sriwedari Solo that time, as far as I know it's performed everyday except Sundays from 8 -11 p.m..Did you visit Taman Balekambang in Solo too? It's a historical garden where Ketoprak (Solonese style opera) is usually played every week. :)

I visited borobudur 9 times, prambanan oh I Love this tample. n also kaliurang, merapi, I went there before n after eruption, those villages, trees, river were gone, burried by lava. malioboro, pramex, triwindu market. did you go to candi sukuh n candi cetho? oooh... guys u've bring me back to those amazing places where I've been visited... awesome. 😆😆😆😆

What a wonderful video! Indonesia is one of the cheapest places to visit. I'm glad to see Yogyakarta is thriving. I was in Batam, Indonesia the day Yogyakarta had the 6.4 earthquake (May 27, 2006). That may not sound like much but there were many casualties and injuries due to the poor infrastructure. It's good to see the city looking so good. I will vouch for the great food in Indonesia. It looks like the sauce that was with the lumpia was a plum sauce.
Thanks Bill! That must have been scary. Sometimes it is the 6 or 7 ones that cause the most damage depending on the epicenter. We really wish we had more than a week. I think we'll be back in Indonesia again next year. How about you? Any plans to return again soon?
Samuel & Audrey I have some good friends in Singapore which is just a 60 minute ferry ride away. I plan to visit them in the next couple years so I would probably take the ferry over to Batam, Indonesia again. I also would like to visit Bali. Have you guys ever visited Bali?
If you come to jogja again next time, you should go to gunungkidul, one of districts in Yogyakarta province. It has so many beautiful and amazing tourism objects, and also has many beautiful beaches
For highland trip in Central Java, Dieng is better. Also there's Ambarawa Railway Museum near Semarang, where you can travel briefl with old colonial steam-driven train through ricefields
Re: Semarang, the only major place you didn't include was the Central Java Grand Mosque aka Great Mosque of Central Java aka Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah. It lacks the famous Javanese woodwork and is fairly modern (opened in 2006) but is worth a look. Re: Solo, did you include gamelan? The city is known for its drums/gamelan music.
Have you come to Wonosobo Dieng ? If you have not ,maybe you should have to come ,because the nature is soo beautiful ,and not so far from yogyakarta . .
Awesome tour. Really encouraging! How did you manage to get to Mt. Merapi? Did you do a private tour? I tried to search some online but I couldn't find one. However, it seems to safe you some time.
Thank you! We hired a driver for the day from out hotel to take us around and he brought us to the entrance of Mt Merapi where it is easy to get a tour directly.

This is so informative. I have some questions. Can we do all this while staying in Yogyakarta or do I have to pick multiple locations to stay?? Also, to visit the same places as you did, how long should be my stay in Yogyakarta? I'm visiting the place on my way to Bali. Will two days do?
batik, if people talking about it, the will talk about yogyakarta, surakarta, or pekalongan. but the real deal is Tuban town east java, the last batik maker that making batik with the original batik fabric which made by themself
Just in case you go back the city's name is pronounced YOGYAKARTA. The old spelling Jogjakata is the dutch way of writing so the J would still be pronounced as Y. However, the main point is, I guess, I loved your video and I have some time free so I'm going in 8 days. Thanks for the inspiration!

We visited in August and believe it or not it was cooler and less humid than Seoul, Korea.
Although i live in Yogyakarta for about 8 year. I just don't have any chance to climb merapi volcano.
