Long answer: "In colonial-era correspondence, the city is often written in the Javanese script as ꦔꦪꦺꦴꦒꦾꦏꦂꦠ, read as /ˌŋɑːjɒɡjəˈkɑːrtə/ with the added prefix nga-. Personal and geographical names, however, were allowed to maintain their original spelling according to contemporary Indonesian orthography. Thus, the city can be written as "Yogyakarta", which is true to its original pronunciation and the Javanese script spelling, or "Jogjakarta", which is true to the old Dutch spelling and reflects popular pronunciation today, but differs from the original Ayodhya etymology. One may encounter either "Yogyakarta" or "Jogjakarta" in contemporary documents." -Wikipedia But in Indonesia, we use both interchangeably.

Hi Renata! I am Indonesian. Thank you for visiting the special region, the special province of, the (Islamic Central Javanese) Kingdom of Yogyakarta, of Indonesia. The Sultan is really a king. And any Sultan of Yogyakarta, would automatically be the Governor of Yogyakarta. While the other king, The Paku Alam of Yogyakarta, automatically be the Vice Governor of the region (we have two Islamic Javanese kingdoms within the province of Yogyakarta, the Paku Alam's palace is near the Sultan's). And long time, hundred years ago the Islamic kingdoms of java had a strong alliance with the islamic Kingdom of Turkey Utsmaniyyaah (the Ottomans). An important city and region that had played quite an important role in Indonesia's history. Nice video. And you are so knowledgeable, humble, beautiful and kind. Say hello to Gordon, please. I like him, he's a funny and smart guy. BTW, in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language), we call "curtain" as "korden" or "gordyn", almost the same as his name, Gordon. That's why the little girls laughed. :D I just feel quite bad that you visited our country in summer. I hope the climate was acceptable. It's different in rainy season. And if you go to the beautiful highlands, and mountains of ours. But if I may say, with around 17,000 islands in the largest Archipelago on Earth, more than 600 ethnic groups, over 700 languages en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indonesia YOU NEED MONTHS at least to really know the real varieties of Indonesian cultures and cuisines. If you have the time and energy, I would recommend it. ALL TIME favorites cuisine are MINANG/PADANG (West Sumatran) food, especially the BEEF RENDANG, voted many times (CNN survey) as the MOST DELICIOUS food in the world, BUT, of course, Yogyakarta has its distinguished food. NEXT time you visit Yogyakarta, do try the Sultan's Palace's (Kraton's) restaurant! The BALE RAOS restaurant. They have genuine Kraton's original recipee. And it's with reasonable price. I personally like it very much! And actually the special region of Yogyakarta also has cool-breezed mountain, green hills, valleys, and hot beaches. A pity you did not have the time to enjoy it. I thank God, or "alhamdooleellaah", all praise be to Allaah, The One God of 124,000 prophets and apostles. THANK GOD for the existence of Indonesia. And its varities of food and beverages and cultures. And last but not least, THANK YOU for liking our food. :)
Again, thank you very much especially for the suggestions and history. We are very appreciative and hope our audience finds them and visits your wonderful country👍😍

11:30 actually there's a reason why the gates are so low. the sultan wives and the people there are expected to bow down a little just to respect the Sultan. and i said wives bcs the Sultan back then have a lot of wives that they called permaisuri, and one of the wives would be the 'queen', the low gates there to pay respect for the queen aswell. i live in the complex of Taman Sari, and my Grandmother was the descendants of one of the Sultans. thank you for visiting Yogyakarta:)

Javanese: Sugeng Rawuh dhateng Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat Indonesian: Selamat Datang di Yogyakarta Hadiningrat) English: Welcome to Special Region of Yogyakarta
10:33 Taman Sari or Water Castle is actually designed and built by a Portuguese. There was a Portuguese officer stranded in Javanese beach and was captured by the Sultan. Since then he was working as an architect and master gardener in the Royal Palace, and his main job was designing and building the Water Castle as the Garden Complex of the Royal Palace. So, no wonder that the architecture is highly similar to that in Rio (10:28). Yogyakarta Taman Sari is actually a Portuguese architecture with ornaments and decorations taking the Javanese symbolic decoration and Chinese ornaments.

BTW, in Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian language), we call "curtain" as "korden" or "gordyn", almost the same as his name, Gordon. That's why the little girls laughed. :D
I just feel quite bad that you visited our country in summer.
ALL TIME favorites cuisine are MINANG/PADANG (West Sumatran) food, especially the BEEF RENDANG, voted many times (CNN survey) as the MOST DELICIOUS food in the world,
BUT, of course, Yogyakarta has its distinguished food.
Nice video Renata & Gordon. Keep up the good spirit and enjoy Indonesia's vibe. Come back again and explore more. Cheers..

And kudos to you for exploring the Taman Sari on your own cause I had to hire a guide but it was worth it for another Rp50k. And she was my photographer as well as i was travelling alone and she was able to shoo away the people to take pics at the stairs. Cant wait for more of your Jogja vlog!
My pleasure 😊 I am glad you got to visit...it is a great city to explore
Sekarang ini, Renata & Mr. Gordon lagi di mana ya? Penasaran... Semoga saja masih di Indonesia.
Kami pulang ke rumah agar aman ketika virus muncul. Untungnya kami memiliki banyak konten untuk diedit agar kami tetap sibuk. Terima kasih telah bertanya
Oh wow, Saras! What an interesting family history you have and what a privilege to live in the Taman Sari complex 😍. That's so unique!

I like watching your vlogs. You remind me with my lecturer voice
Thank you 😊
