The pop-up workflow is super cool and easy! Thanks for sharing, Zach!
A mist pass is all over your scene, and you can only push it into the distance. When using a cube with a volume shader on it, you can also move it up and down, and add texture details to the volume. So in short, you have more control over it. 🙂
Considering a purchase, but I was wondering if you could tell me if the magic material you use for everything is able to be recreated in UE4 so that things look the same if they were exported into the engine from Blender.
You can download it here: we.tl/t-vutQF6vxb4 (In order to use it, you have to select the object, go to edit mode, select all faces and press "U > Reset".)
Hi, thanks for the comment. It will be hard since 2.7 is pretty different from the new versions, so it will be very hard to follow what's going on the screen. Also, I'm not even sure that the add-ons Zach uses there run on the older version. You can give it a try anyway, but it won't be easy. ~ Masha
How do you make that edge gradient shader on eevee ? I know you can do something like that in cycles with the pointiness in the geometry node but no idea how it can be done in eevee.
I'm using a very simple trick here, which only works, since we are working with cubes here. It is actually a spherical gradient UV projected onto each face of the model. For a better edge gradient effect in EEVEE, check this video here: th-cam.com/video/2stkQE0buqA/w-d-xo.html

@@blackswan6386 The particles are done with a particle emission system emiting cubes from a single face of the ground object. It is all explained in detail in the Cubic Worlds course (a bit too much to explain in a YT comment :) it is not super complicated though once you get the basics of particles in blender.
Hi, unfortunately, we don't sell our shaders and assets separately. But you can have them all together, with the course: academy.cgboost.com/p/cubic-worlds ~Masha
I tried recreating the shader in 3.0 and the edge gradient texture doesnt want apply itself onto every face. Just the top so i only get the gradient sphere on the top. I unwrapped it and put all the faces on top of eachother which did the trick but I dont wanna have to do that for every object cuz thats just too much work ahha. Anyone know of a solution? BTW when I moved the gradient texture using the mapping node i tried to make make it so that its in the middle and evenly spread through the model but that didnt work.
Indeed you have to unwrap it for every object, but it is actually super simple. Just select all the objects you want to unwrap, go to Edit Mode, select all faces and press U > Reset. Then it will put all the faces perfectly square on top of each other.

Hi, if you have purchased the cubic worlds course, you can find it in the asset library provided by Zach. Here is the link to the course: www.cgboost.com/courses/cubic-worlds ~ Masha
he goes over how to make the shader in the course. Its actually near the very begging. In my opinion you can't go wrong with the course. You are modeling with primitives (cubes) but the concepts are a bit advanced, its really a unique way of teaching as the modeling doesn't get hectic, allowing you to focus on the concepts and techniques. Everything I have learned in it so far can be applied to low and high poly modeling as well. I will be getting into the animation part this weekend. :)
The question is: Compared to what? In general, I would say yes. The great benefit we have here is that the scenes look pretty decent in eevee already, so you can render them out in eevee. Also, we are using no complicated shaders here, nor any glossy or reflective surfaces, nor any textures. So it is rendering faster than usual 3D scenes, with a lot of polys, textures, shaders etc.
@@cgboost thanks a lot. I asked you this as I want to make a car chase animation. I used some models(realistic ones) and when I started to render, the time for rendering each frame was 10mins. I was disappointed as I really wanted to make it so I am starting all again, but this time I will use lowpoly models (trying to imitate what we see on cartoons)and is hoping the render time is atmost 30sec per frame.
Hi, I would like to buy this course but I need information. I am switching from 4d cinema to blender and am used to fast render times (with redshift). With this course, can you learn the basics of cycles X (I think it's the fastest in Blender)? I have a notebook with rtx 2070, i7, 16 ram. Information about rendering times for your course?

Hi, you just add a keyframe on the scale value and set it to 0 and then go forward on the timeline and add another one and set the scale to 1. For the bouncing effect you can add another keyframe before the final one set to a bigger scale like 1.5. ~ Masha
