I’m on a 5/2-5/3 schedule, I’m off on the weekends every two to three months, it’s not bad, kind of nice cause you can schedule appointments when your off during the week, also driving through the weekend you get the extra seven cents a mile
@@markforester4553 exactly! I like the fact that you have the choice of a little of everything.
@markforester4553 i have always worked a 5/2 5/3 but recently went to a 5/2 ... I sure miss my 3 days off.
@@jackwagon4313 I did 6/3 for years and loved it
What happens when there's bad weather. Example, you go to store and grab an empty but there's high wind advisorys.
@@ghostcat1883 If I feel it's unsafe to continue then I park it. Call dispatch and let them know I'll continue when it's safe. Although if it's only an advisory there's probably no need to park it.
I’ve been with Walmart for 3 months. I work 5 on 2 off then 5 on 3 off. Rotates around every 2 weeks. So yes I get some great weekends once in a while.
@@Billyparker-ie7ze That's pretty awesome Walmart offers that most companies don't.
I’ve been with Walmart for a little over 2 years, I have a M-F 6am out, assigned tractor, it really depends on the DC you work out of, I have changed my schedule quite a few times since being here, I love the opportunity to find what works for you.
@@KevinTreumer oh yes it totally depends on the DC You work out of for a lot of things. I know of a few situations where pretty new drivers got the schedule they wanted but I wasn't going to mention that because it depends on the situation.
Thats why i drive a class b 70k a year job. 6-2pm. Mon-fri. Weekends off. Did otr for 4 months and hated it.
I hear you OTR or regional is not for everyone.
I have Friday and Saturday off .
@@jackwagon4313 perfect a weekday to get business done and a weekend day to relax sounds good to me.
They don’t tell you they want you max out your 14hr clock …. It’s kind of a lot of hype!! You don’t get to go through your house you don’t have time to do much other than drive while on your schedule. They say they have exercise equipment at facilities, they don’t! Drivers need time to do other than delivering to the stores…. I used to be able to at least go get exercise several times a week when OTR, with Walmart you will not have time nor do they want you parking at say a Planet Fitness. Maybe it’s different in Midwest or South but in NW you are stuck in that truck from the time you get to work until you get off. Also if you work nights you may not get off until the morning of your off day then have to drive home, so it’s not quite 2 full days off…. Cool but there is A lot of CAP!!!!
@@cicicleverfoot2355 actually Rich Warren works up in the northwest and he made a whole video on how he gets to stop at fitness centers a couple of times a week and how the GTM and Bentonville worked with them on that. In addition to that if you're not making it home on the day you're supposed to go home then you need to talk to your GTM because you're doing something wrong. I've been here 18 years and I've never not gone home on the day I was supposed to. I'm sorry you're going through this but you definitely need to get in touch with your GTM and start working this out because this is highly unusual thing that just really doesn't happen for the most part anywhere in Walmart. Rich Warren does the Alaska run You really should get a hold of him and ask him where he goes to work out a couple of times a week. He's up there in the northwest where you're at so that should work perfect to help you out.
@@20plustrucking read what I said I said you may not get off until that morning so you end up getting home into your off day! That’s not a full day off! Again they have some good but it’s not all peaches and cream like many try to act as if it is….
@@cicicleverfoot2355 no job is peaches and cream but you shouldn't be going home on your day off. Like I said talk to your GTM and put a stop to that immediately. There's something wrong there it just doesn't happen hardly ever in Walmart. The other thing is Rich Warren does the Alaska run and he's up in your area he will tell you exactly where you can park the truck and do a fitness workout with permission from the GTM because he's already done it. I get you have a couple of issues but I'm positive there solvable. The fact of the matter is this job is way better than most any other trucking job out there hands down. I've never made the comment that this place is perfect as a matter of fact I've said multiple times and all my 140 videos I made that this place is not perfect but better than most.
@@20plustrucking thank you I will check into this
@@cicicleverfoot2355 let me know how it turns out. Rich is a great guy you'll like him. If you ever get down to Red Bluff check out our workout room it's pretty awesome. You can get the door code from one of the ops managers.
I’m a Thursday out with a 0400 gate time. I usually extend every week. I always take one Saturday a month off. This is because of family functions that happen.
I’ve only been with Walmart a year and they’ve never given me a hard time about taking PTO during the middle of my work week.
@@markelliott1501 Right on! Yeah they've never given me trouble about days off I take either whether it's in the middle of my week or what ever. Un less there's more than 10% of the people off then it might be hard to get the day off
Can you wear work suspenders? Is Walmart getting the self facing drive cameras?.
I guess so lots of guys have worn them in the past. No we're not getting front-facing cameras that I know of.
I commented in another video that this is one of two reasons I haven't applied to Walmart. If the schedule isn't posted, then during the interview, I'll tell them the schedule I want, usually M-F or M-Sat. If they don't have it, then I leave.
@@weirdfan88 I hear you. Let me know how that turns out if they have a Monday through Friday out the gate available.
No ones cares your reason no applying for Walmart you still outside carriers sitting over 9 hours at any DCS 😂😂😂😂 keep doing that smart driver
@@francisvaliente599 I care, so that already means a lot. I've never waited that long anywhere.
For that kind of money, I dont think you can beat it, really. Wish I'd had that kind of deal the forty years I drove LTL!
I was pretty hard headed about getting a job here in the very beginning I'm glad I gave into it.
I'm curious about y'all schedules at Walmart can you do two weeks of driving and get one week off so a 2 and 1
We used to have a thing like that and they may still have it in other DCs. It was where you worked 5 days then got a day and a half off then worked your full 70 and then got a week off. They called it the 5/3 If I remember it right. That was the schedule I wanted but I didn't have enough seniority for it but I did get the five on five off and I've stuck with it since then.
That’s not true, my current schedule for the past 5 weeks I’ve been off on the weekends it’s getting ready to flip but towards the middle of November I’ll be back off on the weekends this is working a 5/2-5/3 schedule
@@JeffLane-m5s Right that's what I was saying The weekends rotate on schedules like yours and others.
@@20plustrucking I kinda think it’s different running MP/FDD loads as opposed to general freight loads imo
@@JeffLane-m5s oh yes definitely different. Especially if you're out of that DC vs me stopping in and grab a load or two to help out.
When you mention two or three days off is it two or three full days off
Yes it's always that way here at Walmart. If you're supposed to get 2 days off then you will be going home the night before and will not be going back until the next morning after the last day off. They have never failed to do that for me in over 17 years of working here
Do you have information about walmart local drivers?
We have a few at the DC I work at but I don't know much about what they make. I do fill in occasionally for them and it seems like it's kind of a hassle and a big rush thing but those guys are used to it so it's probably easy to them. I believe down in LA there's a lot of the day drivers but I don't know much about what it's like.
Is the 5 on, 5 off still a good salary? Maybe 85,000 a year instead of 120,000 a year?
@@riacedo22 I wouldn't know for sure because I've never strictly just work the schedule. I always work a lot of my days off in the 4th quarter of the year so it makes a dramatic difference on my yearly pay. My best guess is if you just work the five on five off like it's meant to be done You probably would only make about 65,000 possibly 70,000 a year.
