the best comment I've ever heard is - you don't need drugs to enjoy Pink Floyd , you need Pink Floyd to enjoy drugs

I'll never understand why people associate the band with drugs. The band members didn't do any drugs. It's a common myth and it's sad. Their music should be enjoyed clean and sober with a great set of headphones.

@@jxchamb That's unfortunately not true. Syd Barrett famously lost his mind due to LSD, probably exacerbated by pre-existing mental health issues. Roger Waters admitted trying LSD a couple of times. Richard Wright struggled with cocaine for many years. Even Gilmour and Mason were rumored to have gone through phases of drug abuse. That said, the band did not "use" drugs to write or perform their songs. To them, drugs were a distraction, not a part of their work. They would have been better off without them. And the listener does not need drugs to either enjoy the music or to "get" the depth of the lyrics. Waters was not under the influence when he wrote the lyrics. And the songs were not about drugs. Except "Comfortably Numb," perhaps, but even that was not about recreational drugs, according to Waters it was about taking medication in response to an illness while he was doing a concert, that caused him to be disoriented on stage. The Wall narrative turned that into a tortured man getting high to mask his inner pain, to the point that he was nonfunctional, and needing another drug to get him able to perform, but that's about the farthest from "enjoying" drugs that one could be. I love Pink Floyd's music, and I've never had to be drugged or drunk to do so. The music and lyrics are so nuanced and meaningful that any inebriation on my part would dull the experience, not enhance it.

Drugs are what slowly ended up killing Syd Barett (the band's founder). There's nothing positive about drugs regardless of the context. It's just shit that locks you in a BUBBLE ... and harder the fall is when you wake up ... and sadder is the distress of your loved ones when you stay stuck in this one forever (Syd).

It cut off abruptly because it headbutts the next song. So yes, it's best to listen to the album all the way through, because there's a flow to it that is lost when you only listen to one song. But I loved watching you get lost in it, that's the magical thing about them.

A stunningly beautiful track. It cut off because it goes straight into the next track. You need to hear all of Dark Side of the Moon in one sitting. Allow yourself an hour - 40 minutes for the album and another 20 minutes to recover. The engineer of this was Alan Parsons and the sound is very similar to some of his work (such as the Alan Parsons Project songs "Time" and "To One In Paradise") - I often wonder who influenced who...

    "Why did it stop?"
In progressive rock, the album is the art form. Tracks are part of the business, for radio play and sales, but the art in prog rock is the concept album. *The Wall* (1979) also by Pink Floyd is a full rock opera of psychological and sociological commentary on personal vs cultural development -- high concepts you don't get perspective about in tracks alone.

Yes, this song goes into the next song. This is a rock opera (the album,, Dark Side of the Moon). All of the songs blend into the next except for the end of Great Gig in the Sky. This was the last song on side 1. The vinyl had to be flipped to hear the next song, called Money.
There's more to this rock opera. The beginning cut contains snippets of music and voice that come later on the album. Dark Side of the Moon is not only a collection of great songs, the songs were joined together and introduced masterfully.

Biz ~ The reason the music stopped is because Dark Side of the Moon is a Concept album, one song flowing into the next, and was Meant to be listened to in its entirety. Most Pink Floyd albums are the same and you'll find the same with many prog rock albums, like those of YES, for example. Even if you don't review the entire album (worth the risk, I think) DO please listen even just on your own. Sit back in that chair, turn the lights out, relax, and let the music invade your soul for the experience as it was meant to be. Knew you'd love the sax though! 😊

It cut off because the songs all flow together. This is why one must listen to a whole album side in one sitting.

From that song, you have to finish the entire album because until the end,all of them are only one!

Bro if you haven't done so yet you need to listen to the whole album in one sitting! That's the way it was intended for you to hear it.Yes it does go directly into the next song!

As always, great reaction / review man.
If you want to hear something profound.... on the same album, listen to, "Eclipse". Something that will really make you think about life.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.

This album, "The Dark Side of the Moon" tracks transitions directly into the next, so individual tracks often get a weird cut-off. To avoid that it's best done as album side 1 then side 2
Same happens (a bit) on the albums "Wish You Were Here" and "The Wall".

And Animals. Animals has to be the PF’s hardest hitting dark depressing angry album followed closely by PF’s The Final Cut which is Roger Waters haunting brutal gut wrenching swan song with Pink Floyd
