    The St. Anthony medallion you found is highly fitting for you. I remember as a child if I couldn't find something, my Catholic mother would say 'Pray to St Anthony and you'll find it.' He is the patron saint of lost things. Perfect for you!

    What you have there, Sir Hans, is what I would call a linear honey hole.
    Great to see you back!
    I believe everyone has covered what that little "cannonball" is. It could have been used as grapeshot in a cannister or just poured in the cannon, buck and shot, or just used in a small cannon. There could have been times where they used chains, pieces of metal, or anything they could get their hands on.
    I know we'll see you soon, so stay cool and stay safe! Peace 🕊

    Welcome back Hans! You are so right about digging targets. On the Deus (hot programme) I don't as a rule dig anything under 40 because it's always trash or hot rocks but scratchy signals in the 40's and 50's can be nice items like buttons and even hammered coins. Here in the UK in medieval times, small hammered silver coins were cut into halves and quarters to make smaller currency - I have been lucky enough to find some of these and they are always poor signals, mainly because they are small and not a symmetrical shape. Look forward to your next outing.

    • @TerraGermaniaTG
      @TerraGermaniaTG  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      sometimes a small nail in close proximity to a good target can mess up the numbers. I ignore the numbers in my decision wether to dig or not. thank you for watching :)

    So happy to see you again! The ball may be what is called canister shot. A can filled with small balls loaded into a large cannon. Usually with canister shot you may see small flat spots on each ball where the balls were packed together. Napoleon would have used canisters. They did also make small cannon for firing one to three inch balls but they were mostly navy or wall mounted. going back deeper in time the first guns, about 15th CE and before in China, were hand cannons and that may fit one. Before that , the first large cannon in the west used carved rocks. The first large cannon were made from hollow logs with steel bands around them. It took a while until they perfected how to cast cannon balls well.

      @@TerraGermaniaTG Thanks Hans, I love your stuff. the history of gun and ordinance development is interesting to me. History often turned on the advancements of weapons. How all this happened is way more complex. I hate guns and violence but I love history and guns were a major pivoting force.

    • @Janmification
      @Janmification ปีที่แล้ว

      What about grape shot, where the smaller balls were bound together in rope net? Thus resembling bunches of rather deadly grapes.

    • @rachelthompson9324
      @rachelthompson9324 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Janmification Grape shot and bar shot were usually used in navel warfare. Canisters were better used on the field. Grape shot may have come before canisters as the method is more primitive. Bar shot had a chain or an iron bar connecting the two projectiles and it was used to take down masts and rigging. Rope wasn't used because it would break or burn up. Rope nets and a sabot were used to hold grape together for loading. Loading cannon with loose shot made it hard to compact the load. Air pressure would be impacted and not have as much force as a canister. Like a blunderbuss loose packing made for short range and less accuracy.

    HI HANS, I'M STILL OUT HERE, I STOPPED METAL DETECTING A FEW YEARS AGO BECAUSE OF MY AGE, 81, I WAS VERY UNSTEADY AND FALLING ALL THE TIME. I QUIT IT AND I MISS IT SO MUCH. AFTER ALMOST TWO YEARS I STARTED TO GET STRONGER AND WAS GETTING READY TO START DETECTING AGAIN. I WAS SO HAPPY, THEN THE HURRICANE HIT MY HOUSE & SENT ME TO THE HOSPITAL WITH A BROKEN HIP & FEAMUR, THEN THE HURICANE TURNED & HIT THE HOSP. THEY THEN TOOK ME OUT & SENT ME TO THE 2nd. HOSP, THE HURRICANE HIT THAT HOSP. THEN OUT I WENT TO THE 3rd. HOSP 90 MILES NORT, AND THE HURICANE RIPPED THE ROOF OFF THAT HOSP, THE WATER WAS POURING IN & THE TILES WERE FALLING FROM THE SEALING. I MOVED THE FOOD TABLE OVER MY HEAD SO THE TILES WOULDN'T POKE MY EYES OUT WHEN THEY FALL, THEY TOOK ME OUT OF THAT HOSP. & SENT ME 7 1/2 HOURS NORTH TO ANOTHER HOSP. THIS ALL TOOK FIVE DAYS WITHOUT NOTHING FOR PAIN OR A DROP OF WATER OR FOOD. I WAS OPPERATED ON THE NEXT MORNING (THE 5th.DAY) I'M HOME 5 WEEKS NOW & I'M BACK ON THE COUCH WATCHING YOU DETECTING. DOESN'T GET BETTER. THATS THE END OF DETECTING FOR ME. THANKS FOR YOUR VIDEOS. EVE JAR.

Next to Mary of Nazareth, this Saint is most often seen holing the child Jesus.Saint Anthony died in 1231. Images of him with Christ child did not become popular until the seventeenth century. May I ask what state you live in? I might have some tips on places to look. I've detected 6 farm houses in Kansas and have found the most interesting items in the front yard along the walkway and driveway. Mosty coins, metal toys, pocket watch, silver ring, and some costume jewelry.

    Hans I am pleased to have joined you for this episode. I have been. Absent due to a heart attack that blew my socks off and other parts. But I see we are once again together. Arnold said, I AM BAAACK. NJ CHUCK MISSED YOU BUDDY.

    Hans, Your videos never fail to brighten my day. Thank you for another fascinating hunt with wonderful treasures. Yes, the bit from the Canister round would be a fearful thing to face. Best to confront it the way you did. Looking forward to the next installment.
