But I always say whoever was walking around with gold coins in their pockets probably had a lot more and were most likely wealthy people. But as with all finds in our wonderful hobby, their losses are our gains. Imagine if nobody had ever dropped a coin in history, metal detecting would be rubbish haha. Thanks so much for watching. G

Hi there Rich, thank you very much for watching this video and for the comments. It's been quite a year finding 3 gold coins already. By far my best ever year for gold in almost 9 years in the hobby. I must admit since this one its been all down hill and I've come close to quitting the hobby and giving up on my TH-cam channel. I took the decision to have 2 weeks away from TH-cam in the hope it would rejuvenate me, re-inspire me and bring back some love and creativity. I hope to start uploading again next week. Hi there Greg, everything we dig is treasure, I've actually kept everything I've ever found. All my trash gets either disposed of or recycled, the modern coins go to the bank and everything else lives in my garage, the good stuff and the gold and silver lives in my display and coin box.This was my best day of 2023 so far, a real joy been out there, finding those 2 amazing items, capturing the day and making this video. Hi mate, cheers buddy, it was indeed an amazing weekend, I spent Friday night, all day Saturday and Saturday night metal detecting with Marcus, then Sunday metal detecting with Carl. I was utterly exhausted by the end of it and falling asleep on the sofa at 8pm Sunday night. But it was so worth it doing what I love doing and trying to capture events to the best of my ability and put these videos together. I have been metal detecting 3 times since and had 3 really bad days in the office, curse of the gold. Thanks as always for your awesome support. G

Love your videos and your enthusiasm. Ive been detecting now for approx a year in calderdale, I`ve found a bronze age axe head approx 4000 years old, a gold ring currently with the FLO, a superb Bullhead 1817 shilling and lots of silver and pennies and enough lead/iron/ring pulls/buttons/tin cans/and bits of scrap to sink a battleship. Its easy to get disheartened especially when your not having any luck for months and its easy to forget that we do this hobby because we love being out there , in the fields and meadows and moors and admiring this bloody great country we live in, with its history. i still get the same feeling when i find a penny as i did a year ago but when you do find something worthwhile, just pause, savour the moment like you did and the feeling is hard to describe. People ask me how much is the axe head worth, but its irrelevant because i would never part with it. Keep the videos coming.... A hearty handshake from Gods own County

Myself and the girls are all doing OK thanks, we are finally off on a family holiday soon to Lanzarote, it cannot come soon enough, I need a break from work, from metal detecting, my channel and everything else. But I will return rejuvenated :)

I have been diagnosed with a possible stroke, and that many have caused the fall back in August 2022 to transpire. The doctor will have to do bloodwork test and brain examinations. The possibility of driving again are slim. Have my Subaru Forster up for sale. It’s a 2020 with 5,200 miles on it. Hate to give it up for sale, but the depreciation on it runs about $3000.00 per year. So out it goes. The most beautiful and amazing SUV I’ve ever owned.

Hi there Troy, it is definitely a habit mate, this was my 9th gold coin. But I've explained to several people in the comments, I am an expert coin shooter, I only metal detect on places with certain attributes where I know I will find coins. Over the years I've dug tens of thousands of pre-decimal coins, crusty Georgian and modern coins. But the bi-product to this is hundreds and hundreds of silver coins and a handful of gold coins. Hi mate, you are spot on, it definitely does not get better, glorious weather, glorious scenery, spring in full bloom, good company, good beer, good food, silver and a flipping amazing gold coin!! I know I have been more fortunate than most with regards to finding gold coins. But as a 100% pasture detectorist, only exploring and detecting these fabulous hillsides littered with footpaths, it just goes to show this is where the gold coins are. This is where all the coins are, I am living proof of this and have dug tens of thousands of coins over the last 8 years, so finding gold coins is inevitable for me. I was happy enough with that Victorian silver tin thing, it was truly stunning, but to find a full sovereign just inches away was amazing!! Curse of the gold has definitely hit me hard, 3 hunts since this one and been pretty awful haha. But I will keep going and keep slaying this area as where there is 3, there is more!! Your first gold will come sooner or later if you keep getting out there

I'd of been more than happy to find that piece of silver, but to find gold moments after finding silver was just dreamy. I do work hard on my content and try to create videos in my own unique style (that others are trying to emulate). I agree 2023 has been amazing for me finding 3 gold coins. September 2021 was the last time I was lucky enough to unearth gold. I've found 9 gold coins now in total in as many years, i feel blessed, but I know I have a proven nack of finding scenic pasture locations where I have a good chance of finding gold coins. Adding the drone to my kit list was awesome, my channel improved and grew so much and I absolutely love taking it out and seeing what I can capture. Love my hobby, love my channel and things are going relatively well at the moment. Onwards and upwards. Thanks again. Gareth

The locket/pendant was likely made by John Culver of Clerkenwell in London in 1887. He used the Birmingham assay office between 1887 and 1902. The date leter n would indicate 1887.

Hi there, it is an incredibly beautiful coin, I thought long n hard whether I should include it on the thumbnail as it kinda spoils the surprise. But I really struggled with creating this thumbnail. A gold ring is at the very top of my metal detecting bucket list, been detecting over 8 years now and I just cannot find a gold ring for love nor money. Well done m8 👍 My very first Gold coin was an Edward half sovereign, decades ago, with my old silver sabre.
I new nothing about him except he was quite old when viccy died and he had a short reign, I thought it would be worth a fortune, ( I had no spinks , Google etc didn't exist) so I couldn't look up prices , I got 40quid, I use to sell anything for the right price when I first started detecting.
I still get ###### off when I think about some of the things
I didn't understand how rare things like my early Saxon stirrup mount was :/
I don't even have pics of my early finds .
I was lucky ( or unlucky) that my first permission was full of things from bronze age and onwards.
I just thought all fields were the same, how wrong how very wrong I was ...

Hi mate thanks for watching and thanks for your great comments, congrats on your first gold coin all those years ago. What a nightmare finding awesome finds back then but not being able to photograph them. But, I bet most fields were full of signals and full of finds. Yeah you were definitely wrong, I've been to plenty of places where I've barely found anything, but then you don't know if its already been hoovered up by groups or other detectorists. Its a strange hobby !
@@TheDukesOfDerbyshire np , whenever I talk to people outside the hobby they don't realise how many hours, days weeks, we put into all the searching before finding something good.
My latest interest are the early lead bullets, or minie balls, I've found a small area that must have been used for testing them , I have complete ones and ones splattered almost flat , some have the copper or iron plug in the hollow rear end .
I was watching a video about redcoats and the changes in rifles and projectiles and saw a couple of minie balls and was , I have some of those, I'd never paid much attention before but have returned to the place that has little else tbh and have found a bunch all slightly different to others .
Your absolutely right, it is a strange old hobby ;)

Hi Nathaniel, definitely some choice swear words went on there!! This was pretty much the perfect metal detecting session, stunning weather, stunning scenery, stunning finds. Most people know that I am a coinshooter, when looking for permissions, I look for the same set of attributes in a piece of landscape that tells me there will be a LOT of coins. I have dug tens of thousands of coins in my 8 years metal detecting, probably 25,000 or more. I find thousands of modern coins, thousands of pre decimal coins, thousands of crusty Georgians, hundreds of silver coins and yes a hand full of gold coins. When you dig the amount of coins I do, finding gold coins is a full blown certainty. But yes a stroke of luck is also required, but I am no way in a million the luckiest detectorist out there, far from it in fact. The lucky ones are the ones who don't have to go to work anymore and the ones who find life changing finds

Hi Mark, yeah a very good selection of metals on this one :) I did open the silver box shortly after finding it. After 100 years in the earth I was amazed how easy it opened and the hinge to be in full working condition. This is why this hobby is so fascinating, we get to find these little antique works of art and beautiful gold coins... There is not other hobby like it!! Thank again for watching. G

It sure does. When I got my Deus2, it took me 15 months to find my first gold with it. Bit then 7 days later my 2nd came along and a couple months after that, number 3 came along. I hope the D2 can bag me a couple more and over take my ORX and become my most successful machine ever!!

Hahaha, do you have any idea when the last time I found a note in the street?? I was actually metal detecting about 6 years ago, walking up a footpath to the field I found a £5 note, then a couple yard up the path I spotted another one. Jackpot!! Very rarely find money in the streets these days. Having said that, I picked up a battered 1p yesterday, I'm a proper scrubber!!

I second the quality of Carl’s spades! Digging the very hard dry fields of Ashbourne and I have 100% faith in the spade. He even made it to a bespoke length etc.

Hi Steven, I used to do a LOT of metal detecting in and around Ashbourne, that's where I really learnt my trade, where I discovered how much I loved this hobby and unearthed my best ever find there. Don't get up that way much anymore as its now a 40 minute drive away. I try and get up that way several times a year to to re-visit old stomping grounds. But yeah Carl's spades are mint, proper works of art !!

Hello there, apologies for the slow reply, I took some time off from the hobby and my channel. But I am back, i hope!! The silver box did indeed open, but it was completely empty, so who knows what it could have contained once upon a time. I have to say since this day, I have had nothing but problems with my metal detector and not found anything exciting and lost enthusiasm. I am trying to re-gather my love for the hobby and hopefully be back out this weekend after 3 weeks off. G

Hi there Stephen, its not just time spent in the field, but its also about choosing land. I have a set of attributes I look for where I know I will find coins, lots of coins! I've dug tens of thousands of coins in my metal detecting career, mostly modern, pre-decimal and Georgian, but the bi-product of all this coin digging is that along with the hundreds and hundreds of silver ones, is the odd gold coin here and there. It is no coincidence that I have now found 9 in 8 years detecting. Yes some good luck and fortune, right place at the right time. But land selection + man hours is the key. Mila's head has healed up nicely but she will have a scar for many years. We put bio oil on it every day in the hope it will fade and disappear. Thanks as always for choosing to watch my channel. I have to say the silver find was exquisite and thought my day had peaked at that point. Literally only a few moments later I was digging a gold coin (again), this hobby has been crazy for me this year!! This permission has a footpath going straight through it and I regularly see hikers, so finding the odd modern coin here and there is normal. Hi mate, good to hear from you. This was actually my 11th gold find and the feeling is the same every time, although NOTHING compares to that first one, especially if its a coin. Finding my first gold coin was very special. Yours will come if you keep getting out there every weekend, week after week. It will come when you least expect it and probably on a patch you done already!!
Great day with a gold plus the nice silver item.Finding gold gives you such a buzz and I have had a few of them too.The best of my gold sovereigns came after I found what I thought was a shottie but when I turned it over and cleaned it staring at me was a Victorian Sovereign.Just to top that as I pressed out the coin there were three altogether.It was a sprung container that would probably have been secreted under a walking cane handle.What a day.
