From what people are saying, T2 sounds a little more 'action movie'. I have to say I do like the horror elements of T1 too so we'll see how it pans out!
@@CarryOnTom The Terminator is very tightly written sci fi horror, and T2 is teen friendly action reboot for wider audiences that doesn't care about script or logic or consistency and is on the verge of self parody. T2 is a fully commercial product with much lighter tone (comedy, teenagers, Arnie one liners and daylight), super high quality effects (most not even CGI), but it's story is rubbish, it rewrote everything established in the original down to the very rules of time travel and changing of the future...just so it could justify it's existence back then financial predictions for Arnie led move were enormous. It works, but only as a 'switch off the brain' pop corn action flick. Which is a shame because it diminishes the legacy of The Terminator which is a sci fi horror masterpiece that works best as a standalone film.
In the first scenes, with the guys at the viewpoint, the blue haired is Bill Paxton, a very well known actor who appeared in Titanic, Aliens or Twister, among others.
29:04 "I wonder why James Cameron chose 2029?" The point of dystopian fiction is to SCARE you. In 1984 after 40 years of nuclear standoff with the Soviets and all the close calls like The Cuban Missile crisis, it was plausible that nuclear war could happen *any day* and that you could, on a day like any other, be going about your business and then see the flash in the distance and an instant later be vaporized without warning. (Just like the beginning of "Fallout") AI was already a buzzword in the 80's. Robot uprising is one of the oldest ideas in science fiction, the word "robot" was invented by a science fiction play ("Rossum's Universal Robots" 1920) about robots rising up and overtaking humanity. Consider where AI tech is now and how if the Cold War hadn't ended and we were still in a standoff with the Soviets how much more money and research would have been devoted to *weaponized* AI development, this timeline appears to be a fairly accurate prediction. (Slight spoiler) there's a story point in the second movie that makes the development of the tech following this timeline not just likely, but *inevitable*
Great points, I'm definitely looking forward to T2. You're right about it being a fairly accurate timeline. Other than the time travel element, I can certainly see a reality where this world is totally plausible for us, and that's what makes a film like this effectively more horrifying than a typical ghost/zombie/possession film. Plausible dystopian realities are far more terrifying!
The human eye is very good at detecting fakeness, particularly in faces. Using real people and real physical surroundings allows our minds to more easily accept the vision of the film AS reality. CGI always jerks me out of the film and then I "wake up" and remember I am watching a movie and that sucks.
not only the effects feel more real, but we originally saw that on tube tv with a resolution of around 500 scanlines. We lose some of the details to the image quality, and our brain just filled it up. Everyone is nostalgic about the 80s because they were awesome

A sad fact, its when Kyle said that he always wondered what Sarah was thinking at that moment in the picture. And she was thinking in Kyle during that tape record...
My advice to enjoying the Terminator films after T2 - think of them as fractured timelines, potential futures caused by the events of T2, and you'll have a pretty good time with them.
People were more friendly and trusting in the 80s. That's why Matt kissed her head and Sarah was okay with it. And Kyle acts the way he acts towards Sarah because he comes from hell
Agree. Salvation offers quite a lot to the terminator universe that is not explored anywhere else in the movies, beyond it just taking place in the future. As mentioned in my own comment, I even have this “watch order” in which I put Salvation between 1 and 2. I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve got this looong explanation for why put it there.
40:40 "It's time travel, so there's always questions..." What's great about this movie is that *by itself* it's airtight. You can overthink it all you want, there's no paradoxes, there's no contradictions, there's an answer for all of your questions. There *are* a number of *potential* paradoxes, because information and an artifact of future technology have been sent to the past. If that information is acted on in certain ways (If Sarah aborts John, if John chooses not to send Kyle back to save her and concieve him) or if the technology is reverse-engineered, *then* you have problems. But as the credits roll, none of those things are shown to be happening, so as it is, it's completely consistent and logical perfect loop. ....The *sequels* however.... In the script, there's a final shot of the factory, revealing that it is Cyberdyne, the corporation that created it, hinting that they never *created* the technology, but reverse engineered it. But then *who did* create it? Or *what* did? In that instance, a causality paradox designed and engineered something, as if from human (or artificial human-like) minds and built by human (or robot) hands, *out of nothing.*
Reese had the photo of Sarah and all details about her from John so he knew which Sarah Connor to go to. The Terminator only had the name so he proceeded along the list of the phonebook - until most conveniently Sarah called just as he was at Sarah and Ginger's, and he also found the ID with her photo.

It's really a surprise to find a guy like you who has never seen the Terminator or Terminator 2. I mean, who tf hasn't seen Jaws or Star Wars? You gained another subscriber at 12 minutes in when you commented about the “CGI crap”. The older stuff just looks better even if it has a “little “ CGI. GREAT REACTION.
The rubber eyebrow prosthetics show the hair is burned off his face. From that point, Arnold is wearing a “burned hair” wig created by makeup artist Jack Bricker. Around the midpoint of the film, the Terminator’s heart (pumping blood to his skin) dies, and so does his skin, which turns green and begins to putrify! That’s why he’s green, and the motel owner asks if he has “a dead cat in there, or what?” It’s a subtle detail that many didn’t notice (including me, until a friend pointed it out). Very clever science fiction storytelling.
No eyebrow prosthetics, Arnold shaved his eyebrows for this scene. He had them insured by Lloyds of London first though in case they didn’t grow back properly.
You are so correct with your statement that the practical effects look soo much better than the easy solution cgi garbage we have today. Yes it doesn’t look perfect but it still looks amazing.
Right?? It’s odd, but if I know what I’m looking at is real and tangible, it’s far more impactful than something that’s obviously CG, even if it’s not perfect. Digitally enhance if you have to, but practical effects, creatures etc. is king in my mind ✌🏼.
James Cameron was given 6 million dollars to make this movie. Most of it was filmed at night because night permits were much cheaper. We were much more affectionate in the '80s than people are today. Also... don't overthink '80s movies. Just enjoy them.
Kyle Reese was born in 2003. So by the time he was sent back in time he was 26-27. He'd be around 21 right now. And until recently I realized we were born the same year. Crazy right?
Yes, Linda Hamilton did Children of the Corn!! I'm pretty sure you've already figured that out, sorry to beat a dead horse... In the US, she is also remembered for a popular TV show she was on from 1987 to 1990: Beauty and the Beast! Ron Perlman was in it too. Knowing that, take one guess as to whether Linda H was the beauty or the beast. You guessed correctly!

It genuinely delights me when American Millenial "reactors" come to the horrific realistion that Arnie ISN'T the good guy in this film. They're usually in denial until the gun shop scene.
If the future was 2129 then why send a Terminator back to 1984 to kill the great great great grandmother of the then leader.....why not go back from 2129 to 1312 and kill another ancestor.
Now that is one of the most clever observations from this movie that I have seen. Yes, the metal terminators can come through the time portal because they are covered in flesh, so why not take some guns and encase them in flesh to send them through too?
The magic is that it’s so absolutely lean and well executed that you are left with either no or very few questions. But things to think about? There is a world of things it can make you think about… and of course T2 answers/expands on most of them. But even taking only T1 into consideration, it’s one of the first batch of sci fi movies that started to explore worlds in which technology leads humanity to a darker path instead of a bright future, along with Space Odyssey, Blade Runner and a few others. The matrix being the one that took this concept to its peak. Then there’s also the whole discussion about it being a time loop, or when connected to sequels, a multiple timeline theory. Now… I’m going to be the heretic here, and mention Salvation. I’ve got this order I suggest to new Terminator viewers: T1>T Salvation> T2. Without going into spoilers, many elements in Salvation align perfectly as the continuation of the timeline created in T1, and leads perfectly to decisions made in T2. Only a couple of moments in Salvation with dates referencing T3 would have to be ignored. It’s my believe that this watch order would actually enhance the whole journey. If anyone’s curious, reply to this, and I will happily explain in a spoiler filled reply.
Terminator 3 is okay. I find it more entertaining than the last two films. Same with Salvation (terminator 4). My favourite is the first movie, followed by 2, then hmm, 4 and 3. I prefer to ignore 5 and 6. From interviews I heard Arnold had a lot of ideas and passion about how the actor playing the terminator should act. He was supposed to play Kyle, but because of his enthusiasm for the terminator character he ended playing him. One of his ideas was to move his head left and right with his eyes following in delay, like he is scanning the surroundings when he is in the cop car. Similar movement to a security camera. You can joke all you want but seems playing a machine might not be that easy. About the latex, fake, puppet head, I agree it's better than cgi since it's real, someone built it. And a lot of people laughed at it, that it looks bad, but i guess they never saw a video of a real accident where a guy split his face in two. Was the most disgusting thing I wish I could unsee. Remember Arnie crashed hard, it makes sense that his face looks bad from the wear and tear.
@@CarryOnTom oj Simpson, and cameron's friend, Lance Henriksen - Who played the detective, and the android in Aliens. Idk if there were more actors considered. There's a painting with Henriksen as the terminator. He also scared ppl on set when he showed up in character. The terminator was supposed to not stand out in a crowd, like the lean Henriksen
If you really want to ditch the trend of just watching all the substandard films after the first sequel, but want to spend a little more time in the Terminator world, I can't recommend enough the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Really great show, miles better than the films T3 and after.
I'm so annoyed by people who can only talk about loving practical effects by talking about hating digital effects. What about film overlay effects? Do they count as practical because computers weren't involved? Do CG artists just not work hard enough?
Totally respect this. I think my biggest gripe with modern cinema effects is using CG as a shortcut over practical, when practical was a perfectly viable option. In essence, I value the creativity and problem solving skills surrounding a good practical effect. However I'm totally on board with digital enhancement and using CG for 'absolute' impossible effects. I just think the reliability on CG has removed a lot of raw creativity that made the 60's, 70's, 80's so golden.
You can if you're a cyborg 22:24 I don't think you could impale and lift up a strapping young bloke with your bare hand either like he did in the beginning.
Ypu forget the cold war i.e. n.a.t.o./ u.s. vs. Warsaw pact/ u.s.s.r. and the potential nuclear war at the drop of a hat . In ' 83 there was a near lauch by Russian forces over n.a.t.o. war games . Add reagan's stance and the lauch of the s.d.i. program by the u.s. d.o.d. You get the picture why he picked 2029 . Also it was nearly 50 yrs inthe future so.
@@sergiodavila5269, first film does! EASY. T2 was nifty & cool looking but zero credibility in the story which was a pity, had it not been rushed, the mistakes could have been avoided.........

I really enjoyed 3... and LOVED 1. But 2... 2 I felt was the worst in the series. Nothing against the people who enjoy it... but it was too much of a shift for me. Honestly, it was too happy... too positive for what I felt a Terminator movie should be.
Yeah T3 and pretty much most Terminator stuff after 2 is just cash In, beat a dead horse garbage. Its loses its heart and is just mindless sci fi action films that don't hold a candle. Its the same story as Alien franchise, the first 2 are superb after that its just Hollywood trying to repeatedly milk the license for every dollar they can.

If you really want to ditch the trend of just watching all the substandard films after the first sequel, but want to spend a little more time in the Terminator world, I can't recommend enough the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Really great show, miles better than the films T3 and after.
People have mentioned this! I never knew it existed so I'll definitely check it out 👌
You're in for such an amazing ride when you watch T2.
So true! I have to remember that films are often products of their time and that makes a whole lot more sense.
What's really gonna mess with you is that all of this was supposed to have started in 1997.😂
I have fired a 12 gauge shot gun 1 handed, it's not that bad !!!
I'll add this to my bucket list!
You look similar to Tom F Wilson play the role as Biff Tannen en Back to the future.
HEY MCFLY!!

If made it more than 50 yrs ahead the movies premise of Sarah being important woulmattee as much taking away the whole point of the movie
Watch ALL the Terminator movies 🍿
Agreed, but they're nowhere near as good as this masterpiece.........................
@@GGGritzer what can top T2?!?! NOTHING 🥸
@@sergiodavila5269, first film does! EASY. T2 was nifty & cool looking but zero credibility in the story which was a pity, had it not been rushed, the mistakes could have been avoided.........
Matt dying in his underwear tho
And yet he still held up well against a 400-pound death machine covered in muscles!
keep it up man!
Thanks brother! You too 👏
Great reaction! It is very interesting to see your detailed reaction to the film Robocop 1987. This is a cool classic movie 🦾🤖🔥
Do you have any plans to do it?
Great suggestion! I’ve wanted to watch that for a while. It’s been added to the list 🙌🏻
Cool! I will really look forward your lengthy and detailed reaction to this iconic movie 👍🔥
Why kill him? He's a Terminator.
It actually isn't that easy isn't that easy to get a gun. there is an 8 day waiting period
I really enjoyed 3... and LOVED 1. But 2... 2 I felt was the worst in the series. Nothing against the people who enjoy it... but it was too much of a shift for me. Honestly, it was too happy... too positive for what I felt a Terminator movie should be.
I've now seen a couple people not too happy with 2 which surprised me! I thought it was 2 was the unanimous fave. I'll have to investigate this 👀 .
1984 this movie.
You're absolutely right. 1985 was the UK release. I goofed.
@@CarryOnTom No worries.👍
If you haven't seen terminator you need your man card pulled
You look like Cole, the snake diet guy
Great movie
Have you seen the movie Tarzan The Fearless?
No, is that the original Tarzan film? Is it worth a watch?
@@CarryOnTom I like the movie
Yeah T3 and pretty much most Terminator stuff after 2 is just cash In, beat a dead horse garbage. Its loses its heart and is just mindless sci fi action films that don't hold a candle. Its the same story as Alien franchise, the first 2 are superb after that its just Hollywood trying to repeatedly milk the license for every dollar they can.
