I'm so confused by the Lumix naming and differences between the cameras... G9 G90 GX90 GX850 GX880... Like, what would be an equivalent to an olympus EM1?
A month ago, I bought a complete and mint-condition Lumix GX85 with the 12-32 Kit Lens for €275. It only has a 921 shutter count. I got out of control when I added the M-Zuiko f1.8 17mm, 25mm, and 45mm, and then later the Olympus PEN-F and PEN E-P3, which are all mint, for a total of €1,270. The money I am saving is for a Fujifilm X100VI, but for what I have now? I have zero regrets. I have also been going out for photowalks a lot and started to enjoy Street Photography again. The PEN-F is a beauty and a joy to use, in fact they all are.
Great content! I just finished piecing together my MFT kit. An Olympus PEN EPL-5, Oly 14-42mm f/3.5-5.6 EZ, Lumix 25mm f/1.7, and Lumix 45-150mm F/4-5.6. I got everything used for a total cost of $575! I have been exclusively using my phone for photography for a while now. Excited to have a "real" camera to elevate my photography to the next level. Thanks for the informative videos! Happy shooting.
I love LUMIX cameras. I use the G9 and it is a great camera. Amazing the low price you can purchase it for. I paid full price for it when it first came out. I use the GX85 & 9 as my EDC. Feature rich small and lightweight cameras. I love my PL15 for street photography. A little wider than 35mm full frame. The 20/1.7, 25/1.7 & 42.5/1.7 are super everyday lenses. There are several zooms to select from. My favorite is the kit 12-60 lens. All these lenses give me dual image stabilization. The 12-35 and 35-100 f2.8 is the best two lens combination. I got the Pana GX85 with 20mm Panasonic and the Pana G85 with 25mm & 45mm Olympus. For me its the perfect setup. I dont need more tele capability and for anything more wide angle I just use my iPhone 14 Pro and DJI Pocket 3. Greetings to my favorite country Indonesia from Germany!
hi Gary! love your vids and ideas! please keep posting! i'm with olympus em10mk4 + lumix 20mm or lumix 12-32mm (both you recommended ^_^ ) agree 100% with you - as you said; a compact lens will assist and be easier to go out and take photos with! i just came back from a photo-walk 😃 thanks and greetings from tel-aviv 😍
Nice recommendations, Thanks Gary. Can you also review the DJI 15mm, which is about $200 and supposedly as good as the Panasonic Leica 15mm. Seems perfect for smaller street or stills cameras, like the GX85, GX9.
Thank you for the suggestion, I am actively looking for it in online shops but looks like they don't sell the DJI 15mm here where I live. From the specs alone it looks like a good budget alternative, but the used Pan Leica 15mm can be had for not that much money these days.
Very nice content, Gary! I think we could be best friends if given the chance haha I have been following you way back when I was exploring GarageBand for my guitar hobbies. Then 2 years ago I made photography as a serious hobby and last weekend I just bought my first MFT camera which is a used Lumix GX85 (around 285usd). So here I am again watching your videos for a different hobby this time. I always find your videos very helpful
Gary good advice. Some other thoughts. The LUMIX 25/1.7 is the plastic fantastic full frame equivalent 50mm lens. A good 1st prime lens. For a zoom I have come to appreciate the LUMIX 12-60 lens. It has the virtue of a great zoom range in a relatively small package. A bargain but not cheap option are the 12-35/2.8 and 35-100/2.8 zoom lenses. Small. Fast. Lightweight. Dual IM. Get the 1st generation of these lenses. These two lenses will cover most of your photography needs. I love my GX85/9 bodies. Great and highly performant small bodies. I am shocked to see the G9 selling for $550. Not a small camera. Excellent IBIS. Many video features. Great choice for photographers. The phase detection depth from defocus (DFD) is quick to lock on and is accurate. Like all LUMIX DFD cameras the autofocus for video isn’t sticky. If you are a photographer the G7 is OK. For a few dollars more you can get the G85. The IBIS is good and makes a big difference. For the budget conscious I’d go with the G85. Have a few dollars more? Go with the G9. olympus em1 mark ii 500$ is the best choice 4k 30 fps full hd 60fps , stabilized sensonr , water sealed , 2 slots memory , phase and contrast autofocus , is a bargain
Good advice! Chanced upon two 2nd hand Panasonics, a GF10 (GX880) and LX100, a few days apart at reasonable prices (US$275 and US$290) in very good condition. Will just look for a cheap manual lens for the GF10 then use them day-to-day to gain more proficiency before i level up in M43 gear.

With my G90 Lumix I preferred the 42.5mm Lumix to the 45mm Olympus because with the lumix lens you have the double stabilisation.

Have a gx80 with 12-60 and 45-150, covers all I need for every day and travel all less than £500 which is less than most point and shoot

Those shots with the 35-100 are stunning. A fun lens, thanks for recommending it.
