I love this song. The live version hits me harder because of the pictures on the video screen behind them as they preform. Plus the reaction of the people in the audience.

I have been struggling since the death of my precious husband of 57 years ,4 years ago ,then 6 months to day day after he passed my best friend since I was 20 passed as well . The message here by Disturbed is so on point . Try to do your best and keep our loved ones in our heart because time is so short . Thank you for this one it was beautiful !
I couldn't agree more Val! This one shockingly caught me totally off guard! It hit me hard! I am sorry for the loss of your companion. I can't begin to imagine your grief. I don't know what it feels like to be helpless or poweless to control things, like I want. Life has a way of showing us the way to move on and healing us through the relationships we form and the love we hold in our hearts! This one was INCREDIBLY touching to me!
I'm 52...I can't hold back the tears hearing this one. :) People pass, I have lost a lot of them to cancer. And the people that comes after us will loose us. But..hold on to the memories. :)
Disturbed's body of work has always had positive messages and commentary on social issues even in their early days albeit that it was delivered in the most brutal heavy rock manner i.e. Down With The Sickness with its domestic violence subject. It is just now in the present time that their delivery has become much more subtle in style but they can still rock it out like there is no tomorrow.

I read somewhere that David wrote this song after watching the move “Coco” with his child. It involves the Mexican celebration Day of the Dead , where ancestors are remembered and honored.
Yes, I watched an interview video where he says this. the lyrics were sent to him, and he got the idea for the video from the Movie! So cool, right?

Bottom line - good music is good music and Disturbed makes good music. Can't put them in a box. If you've a mind, Disturbed's new album, "Divisive" has a rockish ballad featuring Ann Wilson (of Heart) in a duet - Don't Tell Me - that is amazing. (The whole album is a gem.) Almost forgot: if you go to the Official Live version of this, (which I highly recommend watching), you can upload up to 8 of your own photos to be inserted into that video.

Boy - This one got me! I think it's my favorite (So far) lol.
I was shooting photos of one of their shows and I had a brief/passing interaction with David Draiman. I passed him in a hallway and he had his son(who was maybe 2 years old) in his arms and I heard him talking to his son in a goofy voice. It was so adorable.
Oh that is so cool! I feel like I've missed out on much, by not paying more attention to this band. I know that a lot of it, probably isn't my "bag", but then again, I NEVER would have listened to this, either- keeping a much more open mind to you guys suggestions now, for sure! Disturbed is a SOCIALLY CONCERNED HEAVY METAL BAND which is almost an oxymoron - a Heavy Metal Band with a social conscience- intertesting. And I totally agree David's voice is sublime. He and the lead guitarist actually wrote this song and David after taking his son to the animated cartoon called Coco* decided to use the Coco theme in the video. He was also a little worried that the band would not like the song - but they loved it.
*I have this DVD and it is a great animated cartoon with a different type of story - in effect it is refreshing.
SO there is a cartoon for this song? I'm confused! I didn't see "Coco"! lol

Me too- But I never listened to them before I did Sound of Silence. My oldest son listened to them back when he was younger, I'm not big into the metal music much, but I am so glad that you guys are always helping me find things that I have missed out on over the decades!
I've listened and loved disturbed from the moment they showed up, I grew up while they're career started, and in doing so I've followed and listened from day 1, and the absolute pleasure it's been is amazing.
From the hard rock to the softer ballads like this, the adversity of their music has literally aged like fine wine.

I'm a 56 year old guy and cry every time I hear this as it's exactly as I've always thought about people and memories of our lost family and friends.
Inside the fire is another very moving one BUT if you do it be aware it's about suicide and the full version is graphic very graphic, but they do have an amended version with those scenes removed. It's based on a true event in David's life. Just a little forewarning.

@The Speak Easy Lounge I've seen them do both the full graphic one and the amended version. Both jave gone thru ok. Some people get a massive shock watching it, so e don't. It doesn't hit me hard as I know it's acting but so.e people really do react strongly to it. That said it is more powerful and video suits the meaning of the song.

RIGHT? Michael, this one REALLY got me. OMG. I had this song stuck in my head for weeks, if not longer! I felt so strongly about it that on Thanksgiving, I sat everyone down after dinner and showed it to them. There were many with tears, but happy to have heard the message. The light is awesome, be sure to do the official video. They just released a new one Don’t Tell with Ann Wilson from Heart. Think it’s hit #1 already. Then one of my favorites Uninvited Guest. Then A Reason to fight is about addiction, and Inside the Fire is about his girlfriend suicide when he was 16. Hope you have time to listen. I’ll subscribe in hope you review some more

There are often really emotional songs on Disturbed albums, Hold on to Memories, is just one, A Reason to Fight, The Light and Inside The Fire, all have strong messages often to those struggling with mental or emotional issues, Disturbed do a lot to promote supporting anybody suffering depression or substance abuse that has the same destructive effect

The beauty of David himself and disturbed as a whole is all their songs elicit emotions in ways some music can't. A reason to fight is another song similar to this. A song more similar to down with the sickness, but with another beautiful message is the light. But honestly the whole catalog of music is fun

All of Disturbed's music has a positive message. The song Watch You Burn is another song on the same album, Evolution. It is about drug addiction from the addict's viewpoint after they've seen what's happened to themselves. Watch the lyric video so as you hear the audio you can read the words and it makes the message more poignant. I guarantee that you won't be disappointed.

This hit me because I lost my wife over 2 years ago. And a month ago I lost my stepson.
Hi you. I'm 77 and have lived through horror..I'm still standing. Mentally well too, I might add. Listen to his message and follow his prompting .. and always, always remember to look for all the millions of positive things and be thankful. Look for a little flower growing through the asphalt..the smile on a new baby's face, smell the air after a rain,, taste that marvelous new ice cream flavor! I'm saying ..wake up your senses and inhale the goodness around you. It's there! It's there! Let yourself live again!
