- This is my full review of Calvin Klein Obsession from 1985 created by Jean Guichard under the tutelage of Ann Gottlieb. Marketed to women but easily wearable by men in my humble opinion.

I have several vintage bottles hoarded. The best is the one with the built- in sprayer and I ration myself with that one. The initial green is gorgeous and takes me back straight to the eighties when I first smelled it. Obsession reminds me of listening to Kate Bush Hounds of Love on vinyl on warm summer nights and I wear it now as a protective comforting elixir when I get down with the modern world. I agree about the new formulation- tested it in store and was dismayed at its lack of depth and its cheap synthetic vibe.
Yes the good old days... I was born in the 80s but I would go back there in a heartbeat
Thanks for watching
Why does Obsession get down played ? It is still probably one of the only scents that doesnt change into something slightly nasty smelling after you wear it for a little time . The only thing I have ever worn where strangers havw literally asking what are you wearing. Its amazing.
I love wearing it... thanks so much for watching and commenting 🙏🙏🙏
I haven’t even finished watching the 2020 list and here you are again!!! If you didn’t have a full time career you would run out of fragrances to talk about. I just wanted to commend you once again on being the hardest working most informative man doing this. Thanks brother. You deserve all the subs available.
Thanks for the support my friend... I am a hard working Ram 💪🐏
It’s totally cool that you did this video Ramsey. Thank you so much.
Love the vintages Andy! 💪🐏
Hell yeah, Obsession for Men! I first wore this fragrance by way of Bath and Body Works Woodland; I had the bar of soap, shower gel, body spray, everything. Then when it was discontinued I learned it was really just a clone of Obsession. I was smart and got one of the older Calvin Klein Cosmetics formulations, and it's great. But because of how memories formed as a kid goes, I still get a warm feeling of nostalgia when I see old Woodland products pop up on eBay, even though it was just a clone. Funny now nostalgia sets in our brain.
🤣🤣🤣
That is hillarious.... I will review the Obsession for Men in its own video one day 💪🐏
Men’s and women’s Obsession are my jam ❤❤❤
They are both fantastic TBF
This is an old-time favor of mine. Totally love this one.
It's so lovely.... could easily be a signature scent 🥳
Ram, you look great 👍 can tell you’ve been working out. Nice 😊
Living my best life man... life is good 🌞
Wore the men’s one in the 90s - classic!
HOF classic
Thanks for watching 👀
No, it has always been only mature men fragrance.
Great review as always 👏🏻 cannot wait for the Obsession for men full review, the perfume that started all of my journey and transformed me into an “obsessed” fraghead. Thanks for all the good work and passion you put in all of your vids, God bless you Ramsey ✌🏻
That's a great first fragrance to get you going 💪🐏
Obsession is one of the few womans fragrances that I frequently wear as a man. Still love the current version by Coty. It is much better than my vintage version by Lancaster (early 2000). Still the best are my vintage Cologne Spray and my vintage EDP Splash by CK Cosmetics.
Yes it is truly amazing... thanks for watching & commenting 🍻
Thank you my friend! Men's version is so nice...!
Yes I will review the men's version soon 💪🐏
Hey Ramsey - loved this review! I have to go back and watch a number of yours over the last weeks - I've been dealing with the BS of real life - and had no time. (I do wish the real world was as carefree and as fun as the perfume world!) Anyhoo - I got obsessed with Obsession - esp the vintage - last year - and after watching your vid just now - I think I bought well for once. I have a nearly full 3.4oz bottle of the original cologne from the Calvin Klein corporation (it has the coolest feature - the sprayer is built in to the cap - although the cover of my sprayer is a bit rickety but oh well). I also have a nearly full 1.7oz bottle of the original CKCorp edp splash. You are right - in both the cologne and the vintage splash, the herbal top notes are definitely there - and I just love 'em! I do own s'tons of the Coty version of Obsession as well - the thing I started my Obsession journey with - but I think I'm going to sell all that lot because you are right there too - not as good. The Coty stuff smells like root beer to me...Anyway, as usual, I agree with everything you say here - congrats on nearly 8K subs - you deserve way the hell more - no other reviewer works as hard for his people - or is as clearly passionate about perfume! Appreciate you!
Thanks so much for the support and kind words and yes perfume is a great respite from the BS of the real world
It was one of my first bottles in High School. Same bottle with the built in sprayer- not the greatest atomizer. A classic for sure.
@@michael_galicia I agree, Michael - a cool idea, the built in sprayer, but definitely not the best atomizer in the world. The juice inside however is so much richer and creamier than in the reformulations!
@@scp5577 In High School no don't really appreciate the fragrance, you just put it on every morning and go to school. lol
@@michael_galicia - just to impress the girls, huh? 😅
One of the all time greats of the 1980s 🐺
I know quite a few women preferred wearing the men's version after the year 2000. Very sad that I've never tried the vintage women's version, but methinks I would've liked it. Definitely am a fan of Must de Cartier. The context in your reviews is always second to none Ramsey. 👌Best in the comm imo.
Thanks so much Doni... as a Must de Cartier fan you will dig the vintage 💪🐏
A drug mule would find good use for that 5ml bottle when it's empty
🤣🤣🤣
Damm Keith... I will never look at that "lipstick" bottle the same
@@RamseytheRam 😆😆😆
Great video man
I like Obsession For Men but don't wear it because I made a huge error in gifting my partner a vintage Obsession For Women Parfum and one spray of that stuff is the most nuclear thing I've ever witnessed. It's a powdery Tsar Bomba. So that put me off the version for men. For now at least
@@manlyscents I could see that... they are very close the men's and women's version as well
Bravo! Excellent homage to Obsession, exceptional verbal perceptual description of the scent! The fur!! Yes that’s it, the wild unwashed fur. Your verbal description of scent is masterful and second to none. The history the stories, great stuff man! Femme is another one. I have an old Must de Cartier, very skanky; Obsession an 80s version of skankiness more refined. Thanks!
Hungry like a 🐺 I mean 🐏
😂😂😂
Thanks for watching Jon 🙏🙏🙏
@@RamseytheRam😅😂😊❤. Duran Duran Baby! What memories!
CK Calvin is also fantastic, can't wait for that review. Vintage Ck Eternity, Carlos Benaim, is great, vintage ck eternity for women is really really good too.
I will review Calvin soon Michael! Thanks for watching & commenting 🍻
hi, I just discovered the Calvin Klein obsession for women it was lying around in my collection I had never smelled it and this evening I tried it and it's really not bad 👍 a man can wear it without problem it's spicy amber and I notice burnt caramel notes and something slightly minty
Agreed.. easy for a man to wear for sure 👍🏻
@@RamseytheRam yes I noticed the first notes and the drying is perfect I find it quite oriental and at the same time very old school
@@RamseytheRam he also has small resemblances to Shalimar
today i learned lagerfeld cologne is an M1 Garand 😅
the other day a dude at work walked by and was wearing something awesome, they all know i collect fragrances so i had to ask what it was....it was just cheap ol modern ck obsession lol...couldnt believe it.
Yes Obsession is amazing... definitely inspired by Lagerfeld 🙂
I love this perfume so much. The vintage one . I have a half bottle of the vintage. I wish I could find more so I can wear it more often. It’s a masterpiece for sure
Yes and I have more "feminine" targeted fragrance reviews coming soon 🫂
Gotta love CK Obsession, it’s fabulous either gender, justice done in spades, well done That Man 👏🏻👏🏻🙏✌️👍

Classics like this should be appreciated, talked about, and hunted by passionate people. That's why I love this! ,,panty dropper beast mode fragrance'' and then they talk about Erba Pura or BR540 and others.....It's an acquired taste to like these scents mentioned in the video, not for casuals. Still need to get acquainted with many vintages, but that fuels my fire for this, not the new Fragrance du Bois overpriced synthetic mess. Thanks for doing this!
It deserves the love ❤️
MUST CARTIER ! tuve un mini era la forma de un encendedor de lujo
EL LUJO FRANCES DE LOS 70 ES AUN SUBYUGANTE❤
THE Good old days 🌤
Interesting... curious to hunt down original cologne.
It's fantastic 🤌🤌🤌
fantastic review once again Ram
Thanks for sharing this precious juice Frank 🙏🙏🙏
@RamseytheRam It's my way of saying thank you for the time you put into this channel.. stoked for Liz Moores return, great review/er, killer chemestry you two have, seriously 👊🏻
By coincident, I recently smelled and bought the deodorant stick version of this and I really liked it - and I have too been kind of "obsessed" with the scent. I have not yet tried the eau de toilette or aftershave, but I was wondering if - the vintage version in particular - is very overwhelming like "Escape" used to be, in which I love the deodorant stick scent, but the aftershave and EDT is just way too strong for my liking - it is actually nauseating (I have not smelled newest reformulated version) ? By the way, I wish there was somewhere to go and read the different dates of the different formulations and what was excluded (and if anything was added)...
Raiders of the lost scent is a great website to read that info
I don't think it's to strong but I love powerful fragrances 💪🐏
@@RamseytheRam I will check that site out ! By the way, looking forward to that separate review of the mens version of this, and Calvin !
I smelled this as a 12 to 15 year old and don't remember what i thought but i remember it being powerful and being a Whoa fragrance. I assume it was the woman's but i dont remember and ive never bought a bottle of the mans version. Thx Ram. They are melting down the big cities in preparation for the election.
Unsurprising TBH
If you get your nose on it do report back 🪨💪🐏
@@RamseytheRam its on the list. 😊
Lovely. Even the modern versions far outweigh most of the designer stuff that comes out these days.
Agreed but the vintage is as usual on another level
@@RamseytheRam🐏🫡
I love that one, a year ago I hade a compliment from a boy of 11 years old🤯 I have the kindne bothe abd that colon is better than most edp, is a master pice 🧡
It is such great juice .... love wearing both the women's version from 1985 and the men's version from 1986
Was my perfum in high school and Poison those ones are good memorie. I started my journey with Giorgio I pay it with my own money I was thirteen years old and I used that one and feel like a 👑 is funny to listen that those are for lold ladies
Can’t wait for the KL
KL & KL Homme are fantastic....primo Juice 🤌🤌🤌
@@RamseytheRam I couldn’t agree more, Ramsey. One of the most beautiful oriental rose imho. And I have a back up bottle 😉. But sadly have’t try the KL Homme
I have and ADORE Must de Cartier, I need to get the others strictly for science purposes. 😂
Yes if you like Must de Cartier focus on Krazy Krizia (EDT or EDP) first, then Obsession for Women or Men & Lagerfeld Cologne from 1978 💪🐏
@@RamseytheRamdeal! I have a mini of this actually, but as I despise splash bottles I’m going to have to look for a larger size (transferring in the past has just been a fragrance shower) 😂.
I so appreciate you and your wealth of knowledge, it’s like history of fragrance 11110000111 every time! 🤘🏻🙌🏻💃🏻
Thank you for the kind words... I can play the professor role 👨🏫
Fragrance Historian 👌🏾

@@RamseytheRam 💪🏾
I love the greenness in Must de Cartier. Back in the day I preferred Obsession but now I love green ambers like Must.
Yeah I MUST 😉 confess that extra Green touch is my preference now a days .... very well done 🙂
When Substack? 😆
😂😂😂
Should I start one? 🤔
@@RamseytheRam do it !
@RamseytheRam it's a good platform but a different vibe, depends if you relish putting it all into words. I do think your analogies ,like the Dog one here, would read really well it just depends if you wanna go there. Most of us will be there now for Luca Turin's words, he writes like nobody else. So have a think Ram maybe give one review a wording and try it out ?
@@RamseytheRamreply in the comments
Hey Ram , was it Cuirtis again for SOTD or Royal Barn ? 😅
Today it was Obsession from 1985.... first day without an Areej Le Dore in a while
Have you tried the Sheer (2002) flanker?
No sorry
@@RamseytheRam No problem at all 😄 thank you 🙏
Mmmmmm. Ok!
It is yummy 🤤
