I got to see this in person - it was spectacular! My vantage point was from the Pest side, up river a bit - they did the light show on the hillside of Buda there.
And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness (Ge 1:3-4).

I was on Buda Side.
@@the.traveler I was on Pest side, in front of Buda Castle. What place so you recommend to see the fireworks at Buda side? I wanted to see on the bridges but they were closed...
I found the best place near to "Batthyány tér H" metro stop, where it is facing the Parliament building and Danube River. There are nice sound and light shows projected on the Budapest Parliament Building.

No, this fireworks show was on Hungarian National Day also called as St. Stephen's Day.

@@Femmink we don't do this kind of state event on New Year's. Simply too expensive to make twice a year. On New Year's Day, only citizens' fireworks can be seen in Budapest.
Locals do celebrate new year eve with fireworks. But, as I know, there is no such official grand fireworks done in Budapest on New Year's eve.
