    All great advice!!!
    1. Get honest with yourself. Know what foods are your triggers...the foods that you're addicted to, etc
    2. Get organized. Figure out tools/plan u need
    3. Commit to your plan...whatever it is
    4. Know your "why". Make a list of why you're doing it
    5. Have healthy foods readily available
    6. Eat at home
    7. Keep it simple. Find things u like n keep on repeat
    8. 72-hour rule. 1st 3 to 7 days withdrawal n pain expected. (Ex. Headaches, anxiety, etc)
    9. Have a support system
    10. Practice extreme self care

This is HANDS DOWN the BEST video I've ever watched regarding taking steps to really lose weight. I identify with you sis! 💯. I weigh about 250, I'm 5'6 and sugar and flour are my triggers! I plan to re-watch this video every day until I finally feel like I have the consistency and momentum going to FINALLY get off the weight loss hamster wheel! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! 💖

My wake call was when I got on the scale. I hit the number I never wanted to see which was 365. That was it! I have since lost 145. I have another 45 to go. But I am going to get there. And I am 58. My problem was I wasn't eating enough. Went on the Micheal Thurmond diet. And its been my best friend. Granted when you look up the diet. It seems very hard. But Its not. Yes I had to tweak it a little. I eat fish and chicken. I can't have meat. Do to Arthritis. But I love the diet. Like yours, you eat real food. Only if I eat chicken I can have a little starch. If I do eat meat then I add veggie's. It was 90 pounds in 4 months, just to start. Also eating every 2 hours. The rest came off after. The main thing is "Ya gotta do what makes your body happy." But by the way, You look wonderful. You have such a pretty face. You don't look a day over 27. God Bless! Have a great day!

Hi Carla! I just stumbled across your video today and so glad I did. I'm in my late 50s and while (thankfully) I am not addicted to flour at all, can take it or leave it -- I AM addicted to sugar and fat! e.g. Coffee Hagan Daaz Ice Cream is my downfall. OR 72% dark Ghirardelli chocolate mixed up with plain almond butter . . .I fool myself (sort of) by thinking that the dark chocolate and almond butter is a "healthy" treat but when I eat 900 calories of that while watching tv at night, THAT IS NOT HEALTHY. Like you said, I need to get honest. I can do great during the day, eat healthy and delicious salads with some protein, a few healthy nuts, lots of water. . . . But night hits and here I go with the additional 900-1000 calories, which then puts me over where I need to be to lose weight by 500 calories or more. Thanks for the video and I'll be watching more. I'm also starting a declutter, can't wait to see those videos, too. Thank you!

You are like these people who claim that people who bitch about others do it because they are "jealous". When jealous and nasty are simply not the same thing.

    • @bellaluce7088
      @bellaluce7088 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

In case it's helpful to anyone, I saw a sleep specialist and was shocked to learn that getting early morning sun (a common sleep tip) can actually *backfire* when first trying to change a very late sleep schedule (e.g. switching from night shift to day shift, or just routinely staying up late). He actually advised me to wear sunglasses and a hat if I have to go somewhere early during the transition! Also, melatonin timed wrong or at too high a dose can backfire.
These are some things that help me:
      - being outside for dusk fall/sunset if possible (a zeitgeber that naturally releases melatonin)
      - stopping stimulants (caffeine, ADHD meds...) at your personal sweet spot so you're not wired at bedtime
      - physical activity so body craves sleep
The *excellent* tip I don't do regularly even though I KNOW how much it helps:
      - waking up at the same time every day within about 30 minutes even on weekends
      - creating an *enjoyable* wind-down routine #TemptationBundling
      - setting a get-ready-for-bed alarm
      - stopping screens (TV, phone, computer) 60 minutes before bedtime
      - If thoughts keep you up:
      * Data dump to-dos earlier in evening to get them out of head before bedtime
      * Keep a notepad by the bed to jot things down
      * Assure yourself you can think about things tomorrow
      * Try a mindfulness/relaxation technique like deep breathing (counting the inhale, and making exhale a bit longer)
      * Learn a poem and mentally recite it 'til you fall asleep to distracts from thoughts
Can learn a new one if/when it become too familiar to be distracting
      - track bed time, wake up time, and estimated sleep
      - keep a Metacognition Log of what helps or hinders
      - give yourself credit for every effort to improve sleep
      - notice the *positive* effects of your efforts
      - *REWARD* yourself for doing behaviors to improve sleep : - )

You’re a lot younger than me (I am 70), but I feel like we can be friends! I, too, I am on a healthy eating track. Sugar for me had the same negative affects - and once I start, I need to eat it all. One thing I noticed is my ankles don’t swell up and my skin generally looks better without all that sugar. And thank you for making a point about eating full fat. Fat fills you up and keeps you satisfied. No fat/no fat foods just add a lot of sugar to make them taste like something. 🌷

Love how sis put it. About the food addictions. Amen. For me, when my mom left my dad when i was 8, we lived the rest of our time in poverty and food was scarce.
As o got older i developed a bad relationship with food where i "hoard" eat whenever there is a meal because subconsciously i think this might be my last full meal for a long while.
So i developed the habit of over eating even though i haven't been in danger of not having enough food since I left my moms care.
And having a naturally small frame, i never got into fitness or sports so i was already inactive. I thought sweating on purpose was gonna harm me. 😂😂😂
38 years old now, 2 kids later, and so many weight related health complications and mental health issues... im tired of being tired and feeling like life is on slow motion.
Worked out and changed some eating habits and lost 6 lbs last month. I see results so i can't stop now. Lifestyle change, not weightloss. That is my goal.

I am 60 this year and I think I am going on Diet #36. (Well it feels that way anyway) And I know I have to lose weight. But having succeeded a number of times in the past, I know how hard and tedious it can be and I find myself putting off starting the process again. Of course now that I've injured my knee, it all of a sudden makes me mad that I didn't start the process before because maybe this injury might not have happened, and now it will be harder to lose weight. I know that I am supposed to love my body regardless - but it is the one positive way of thinking that I just don't believe myself saying. So wish me luck with this new round of eating.

At that time I worked and then retired I didn't realize how active I was and how good that was for me. I'm finally changing my lifestyle..get moving and eat right and know what I got to avoid and stay away from. With me it's sugar and I'm an emotional eater. I'm facing it. Thank you Carla.

I did similar to what you did. Started right at the beginning of COVID (I mean, where was I going? :-) I was sitting at home) I started at 253 lb and today I am 153 lb. I initially dropped 106 lb so, I am teetering between 148 and 153ish. But I did it slow. I started with low carb eating, cutting out the carbs and the sugar. I really didn't realize that cutting out the carbs meant cutting out sugar. It didn't dawn on me until Easter 2021. I baked a cake to take to an event, and I got ready to cut me a slice and I thought to myself you know I haven't ate a piece of cake in about 8 months.? It was a weird feeling but it was okay because by that point I had dropped almost 50 lb. And like you, I am 5 ft 6 in and I was thinking of getting down to about 170 lb. But in going low carb and cutting out the flour and the sugar I didn't realize that I was fasting as well as I'm not a breakfast eater. Everyday I was eating in a 12-hour window and I just stuck to that. Then 12 hours turned into 14 hours, turned into 15 hours, turned into 16 hours and that's kind of what I'm stuck at. I have an 8 hour eating window, and that puts me at eating about two meals per day. I do not count calories. I used to track but I no longer do that. I wish I could add a picture here for you to see because I've been tracking my progress, but one of my work study students said to me the other day you don't even look the same anymore :-). She wasn't saying it to be rude however I agree I don't. In my lifetime...In my lifetime I have never been a size 8... never. I am very comfortable with the way that I am. I'm simply sticking to what works, and living my new lifestyle. There are people who do not agree with how I have lost the weight, but that's okay. Because, I did not lose it quickly it has taken me approximately 2 years to do so. I feel great, now, I didn't have any health ailments but I like the fact that I can do 10 push-ups or 10 burpees without getting out of breath. Anyway, your story is inspiring. Keep up the great work!

What a great video, I saw you on the Clutterbug podcast, so I'm watching some older videos. I can identify with your experience when a rude person made a negative comment about your weight on Thanksgiving. Something similar happened to me, some woman who I thought was a friend commented on my stomach.
I pretty much cut her out of my life, but isn't it ironic that these rude people, in a mean way, call attention to a problem that we end up paying attention to and ultimately address by habit changes. It's like I really dispise these rude people, but at the same time, if it weren't for them, we wouldn't have a seed planted to give us a kick start on a path to better health.

Yes! This video has helped me! Thank you so much Carla! I’m currently addicted to sugar and flour myself and have been almost my entire adult life. 10 years ago I lost 82lbs. I am now 252 again which is my highest weight. I’m so uncomfortable and unhealthy. 12/25/23 was my last day of soda. I was addicted to Mt. Dew! 😬 At the beginning of your video I was thinking to myself “oh man what does she do around the holidays and her birthday when family recipes and favorite desserts are made!?” Ah! I love to cook and bake which I actually haven’t done in over a year because of my narcissistic ex-husband killing everything in me except my physical heart beat. That’s a whole other story! I started my journey in late August 2020 after my son became sick with covid (he was fine, thank God) it just really hit me, I'm so unhealthy, this damn thing could take me out and I was 36 at the time, and just placating my anxiety and worries with massive quantities of sugar and fast food. I've not had fast food since end of August 2020, and I have tried so hard to better my health these past several months. It is true, cut the foods you know you are addicted to 👏👏👏. Love your videos ❤️

Thank you so so much for your message! Giving up the fast food took me forever to do but I remind myself that I was addicted to the drugs in the food!! I would rather have my freedom than to feel ruled by the cravings (which made me crazy and always wanting more). It gets easier over time. Glad to have you here from East Tennessee!!! I have dear friends in Chattanooga💕💕💕

Omg! I’m totally fangirling over you. Have the same issues (sugar-flour ADDICTION), years of yo-yo-ing with my weight due to repeated loss & gain, and I’m also in my 40s. A lot of your tips I have learned the hard way, but it was so refreshing to see another beautiful black woman put out a video with these tips. I cannot do sugar-bread “moderation.” That’s MY truth. It always bites me in the ass in the end, so here I am: back again at the 72-hr knuckle down experience of detoxing from sugar and processed foods. I will take your advice about getting a therapist or coach because while the journaling is crucial and so helpful, it isn’t enough. Sometimes it does help to have another person to talk to.

      @TheCarlaProject  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

YES!! We need that support and accountability to manage this issue and it has to be ongoing...that's the thing! It never really goes away...just have to manage it best we can. Hang in there with those withdrawals!!! xo

For me it's carbs or sugar + grain too. I'm not addicted in the way that I can't stop. But they are the ones I gain weight from, when eating them regularly. Bread for example. I'm from Germany, where the breadculture is very big..

You are the only person that to me I can completely relate with. You hit every step with honesty and real life experiences that are my same struggle. It’s not just about the outside physically for a true reinvention of one self. Doing the inward work as well has a complete over all life style benefit. 1st step “GET HONEST” …. I truly feel this will course correct my codependency of putting other first and increase my self worth by putting myself 1st so my self worth won’t be tied up in to how many many I can help. Thank you 🙏

What really intrigues me is what does and doesn't work for each person. The only time I really lost weight was with the calorie counting, it was motivating and such an instant gratification that I kept on it for a while. I don't like exercising especially intensely so watching what I eat is better for me. The IF is naturally how I eat, I hate breakfast and eating in the morning I always have so I use that to my advantage. The thing is what works for others didn't work for me and visa versa. One quote that I really had to learn to accept was, I didn't gain the weight over night it's not going to go away over night. Also it's like you said it has be a permanent decision to focus on being healthy vs a quick fix, which I thought ok I lost weight I'm good and went right back to my old ways and gained it back. I am so in agreement with you on knowing yourself and what the struggle is and how to avoid them. I spent so much time researching and trial and error I think this time I'm ready to start organizing my time and food areas and mind set to treat my body better so I can feel better, looking better will be the cherry on top.

      Hi! Nice meeting you!
I'm at the age, too, where I'm trying to totally get rid of things and everything feels so hard.
I broke all three bones in my ankle on December 14, 2015. That was a crazy ride!
I have fibromyalgia and osteoarthritis, etc. but breaking my ankle and having the surgery really about did me in. I can't believe I found someone else that broke all three bones in their ankle! I didn't even know the ankle consisted of three bones until I broke them all!
I, too, don't want to leave all this mess for my kids to deal with.
And I do not eat flour anymore because of the gluten in it but I am so addicted to sugar. I have been since I was 14.
That's all for now it's the middle of the night I need to shut my eyes. I just ran across the channel in I watched one video which was great but then I noticed a video about weight loss and I wanted to check it out.
      Take Care, nan

With all due respect, my parents are Kenyan and I am proud to say I have African Aunties, Uncles, and cousins. None of them are the same body size. They all struggle with health like anyone in the world. I'm first generation American and have struggled with my weight my entire life. I was also diagnosed with obesity which was caused by my birth control. I bounced back and worked the weight off. Its not one nation that struggles with weight, it's all nations. So no your example is highly triggering for me and disrespectful towards African women.

    1 get honest with yourself.
    2 get organized.
    3 commit to your plan
4 know what your WHY is.
5 keep foods you like onhand.
6 eat at home as much as possible
    7 keep it simple.
8 the first 72 hours will be the hardest. Sometimes it stretches as long as 7 days.
9 use support systems, online or in person and step your way into your new life one step at a time.

This is so similar to myself & my ex's sister in how she treated me after meeting them 3-4 years after we started dating. What your man should of done was stood up & say how beautiful & proud he was to be with you & put the aunt in check. I always hoped for this from my ex, but not once in 13 years together did he ever stand up to any of his friends or family for me, I was always in the wrong. What she did was try to make you feel less than, and I'm sorry, but not acceptable. You stay strong, you are beautiful & you deserve the best life has to offer, every woman should feel this way about themselves!!!

My side of the street is clean. Sending you love! 💖

I got divorced years ago after a very hard but committed relationship on my part. My mother asked me why I was still with him. Part of that change, which was extremely difficult with 4 children, I changed my name. Was Pat, but having felt PATronised and PATted on the head, I used a variation if that birth name. I lost weight and realized how much my situation was affecting me. 56 pounds went. I cannot go back to that point ever again. Thank you Carla. Best wishes from Devon UK

I agree with the eating simple foods and meals on repeat. For years, my weight stayed the same, one thing I did was to eat simple and easy meals at home. However after 50 I started to gain a bit every year, but I noticed I moved les and less, so right now I am focusing on moving every day and eating more veggies. I try to keep the sugar to a minimum since I am addicted to sugar. I dont limit the fats too much but I never eat deep fried stuff. I use butter and olive oil , I dont use margarine at all, no hydrogenated oils. You are an inspiration, keep it up. I say it is better to get off the sugar addiction than getting bad health in our later years, it makes for a better life overall.

I just want to say this is probably the best weight loss video I’ve watched! Outlining the steps that helped you was great, i will start with figuring out my “truth”. Thank you!

Hey Carla, Your ex's aunt was wrong on soo many levels for making that negative comment. Thank you for such an inspirational video. 🙂

Thank you for this! What you say resonates so much! You are spot on about being honest with yourself. That is such an important step. Mental health is also a big player. If you don't address the why's of over-eating you set yourself up for failure. I took myself to a psychologist and we've been doing brainwave recursive therapy and Cognitive behavioural therapy and it's done wonders. I totally know that these options are not available to everyone, but even if you do self-analysis you're taking a step in the right direction. In January I had a physical and blood tests done, to find out I had high blood pressure (thanks COVID stress), high insulin (baked goodies I'm looking at you) and elevated cholesterol. My mom had a heart attack a few years back, so all this was the wake up call I desperately needed. Since January I've lost 8kg. It's been slow going and I have another 30kg to go. Sucks being 40+ and trying to lose weight, plus pesky pre-menopausal hormones.... It's not easy but I will get there. Please keep posting these inspirational videos

It’s SO much harder after 40!!! I used to lose weight so fast. But yes you are right on. The inner work is the real work. Mentally emotionally spiritually. The no sugar is just for the physical cravings to go away but I can’t stay away unless I work on all the other stuff. Thanks love!!🙏🏾❤️

All these comments about that aunt. This video may not have existed if that comment wasn't made . Now you're better than ever...for yourself. You're the one winning actually. 🙂

You are a beautiful woman now. I lost 12kgs doing intermittent fasting, so you just have to find the right answer for weightloss that works. I also had to reduce sugar, as I love chocolate but I can still have it on weekends without feeling guilty. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺

this is great! i think one of the most important things is letting go of the 'gotta lose it fast' mentality that keeps us on all the yo-yo diet cycle. small, sustainable lifestyle changes is the way to go! if you can't maintain that change for life, you aren't going to maintain the resulting weight loss for life either. such a simple concept but yet we all seem to struggle with it!
right now I'm mostly just focusing on eating real food at home, walking regularly and not denying or restricting to help repair my relationship with food. I'm down almost 30lbs :)

Totally agree! This is the first time I’ve maintained my weight loss for so long!! It doesn’t matter how much longer it takes me to lose the next 10 to 20 pounds because I feel good I like my food and I can fit in my clothes 😄 way better than crash diets and regaining

This makes total sense and came at just the right time. When you said you are a sugar addict, it just clicked for me. That’s my problem. And flour. Also, that food helps me sleep. I stopped snacking 2 nights ago and what a struggle! I was hyper and couldn’t sleep. I just put in a grocery order for real foods. Eliminated the sugar and snack items. I’m going to try to snack healthy and just buy healthy foods I like (limited ☹️). And I’m going to start getting medical massages again to get back into self care. I’m going to try to substitute doing things that make me feel good for eating things that I’m addicted to. Please wish me luck. 🙏🏻

I am wishing you so much luck!! And yes food was a sleeping pill and pain pill for me too. I would use it for everything. When I got off sugar and flour I had so much trouble sleeping that first week I had to take a sleeping pill. I had to do whatever I could to make it through. my body was WIRED without the sedation. The medical massages sound like wonderful self care ❤️😊❤️😊
