- I decided to get the Scorpion MGL because Shimano gave it the MGL spool. Lets find out how much lighter the spool is!

I love the color glad it’s not bright red! Japan lure shop always sends a free lure with there reels it’s doesn’t matter if you are a return customer or not I got one the very first time I ordered from them 4 or 5 years ago, it doesn’t matter about how many breaks are on, I have bought met mgl 3 at one time and they all had different breaks set when they came to me, I think the Scorpions have always been better built than the Curados
I feel like this reel is equivalent or very similar to the tranx 200A as well! ? Whats your opinion between those two?

You can use a proxy service like dejapan. They only charge you 100 yen for the service. The reel is about 18000 yen in Japanese store.
I need an advise. Thich reel will be better for my rod - Scorpion DC or Scorpion MGL? Rod - Daiwa Labrax AGS 7-35 gramms. Usable lure weights - 5-40 gramms. Now have a Curado K 201 and my oppinion - it's bad. There are much overruns - i must use strong brake settings so casting distanse is thery short (30-35 meters) - so i can't unleash all potential of this rod. I think that the main reason of this is a heavy spool with a big line capacity.
Buing the MGL spool for Curado K may be a big problem. I want buy Scorpion DC but now have some doubts. So can you make an advise.

So now that there is a curado mgl does that basically negate importing one of these Scorpions? Right now a Scorpion is about 160 shipped and a curado mgl is about 190-200 shipped. Is there still a reason to get the scorpion other than color?
So are the brakes operated only by the knob? I don't like reels that you have to open and push up or down.
I own scorpion dc,mgl chronarch e6,curado 201 e slx dc and aldebaran and i think the slx dc and scorpion mgl are the best reels out of them all as far as smoothness and casting distance and being the easiest to dial in,great review you should do a review of the aldebaran 51 !!
Well I saw a breakdown and I was right, they removed the bearing on the main shaft and added 2 knob bearings. Not sure about that decision, but I guess you could add the extra mainshaft bearing from the Curado K, pretty cheap part to order and should make the Scorpion more smooth/enhance gear durability.

Whats the difference between the mgl and the regular scorpion? Is it just the spool? Still same dc5 brake?

i think the colour should be more bright red... i think the lighting make the colour goes off..
i have hold one before... but never look like yours... maybe xg model got different colour i guess

Love ur videos! I’ve always been a big shimano fan. I’ve even got 2 left handed Calais CL201 A and a chronarch and curado MGL. But recently I got a Diawa tatula elite that I’m falling in love with. But if u can do a test on the Calais if u can find 1.
Is extra bearing placed on the levelwind shaft? Since I believed the main gear shaft already supported by the bearing
could be but why would they do that and not give their even more expensive reels that bearing?

Good vid, I like the scorpion's over the us versions simply because i have smaller hands and they're easier to swap without sacrificing feel
Are the scorpions noticably smaller than curado? If so imma make the switch I have smaller hands too and my curado dc doesn't feel as good as like my bantam or curado 70 even

Having some white balance issues there with the camera man. Either that or the monitor your editing on might need calibrating. Either one can throw things out of whack like this. Is the video coming up the same color for you on both your editing display and phone/mobile device?
I up the brightness and white balance so people can see the details of the reels. Otherwise the footage would be really dark and have a dark yellow tint because of the indoor lighting.

I’m kinda new to fishing here, but it seems like your making a big deal about the mgl spool being a smaller line capacity, why would you want less line? I thought more line was better? Maybe I’m wrong, but thank in advance for your answer!
Less weight/casts farther. If you don’t need 150-200yds of line it’s just adding weight which decreases casting distance

You will see the natural color in the next video. I looks like Scorpion 1000XT but a little lighter. I use Japanlureshop 90% of the time. Digitaka has free shipping on reels
That finish kinda reminds me of a burnt orange...kinda like it and the color may match up to a Berkley rod...
Bella Wright the video makes it look way more orange than it does in person. It is a lot more red in person.
hey man my brand new scorpion mgl makes an obnoxious squeaking noise when retrieving. taken it apart. can't figure out why its squeaking. was fine for the first 6 hours i had it...any suggestions?

It will convert to US dollars. Theres a setting on the site that you can change the currency to american dollars to see the prices

Please do the Metanium MGL vs the scorpion MGL I’m planning on getting one and I wanna know if the piece difference is worth it
It's not. I own both and the metanium mgl is flawless but the difference is the construction of the frame and bearings I assume. The scorpion mgl casts as far as my met mgl and honestly it looks nicer in my opinion
2 reels in 2 different price categories. A new Metanium should be coming out next year though :) I had the Metanium out today vs the Antares and the Metanium NEVER fails to impress me.

I just had the Scorpion MGL out on the water and Im pretty sure the Casitas MGL would chew this Scorpion up and spit it out.
When scorpions were 1st out they were 2 years ahead of the US market. I have a 51 that has both centrifugal and magnetic brake systems plus was lighter than all the US reels. You could throw weightless worms or the lightest lures as far as a spinning reel for the 1st time. As far as color goes IMHO if you like a car/reel, rod, anything ,for it's color alone, you are truly missing out on the main point and that is performance. Tight lines

The earlier models I wanna say before or around the C version curados. I still use mine for dropshot and 1/4oz jigs and weightless senkos. It's still one of the smoothest reels I have.

Curado K already has 2 bearings on the main shaft, AND an anti reverse. Then has 2 on the pinion and 2 on the spool for 7 total. The fear of the Scorpion was that they left behind one of the main shaft bearings and added one to each knob. I figure it is a typo or maybe they added to the levelwind???
Strange, just like how the JDM Bantam MGL lists 8+1 and the US site says 7+1...
Im sure some japanese guy will do a tear down one day and we will find out. It does feel different than the Curado turning the handle. More like a Bantam.
@@THEREELTEST True, if I could see your schematic I could tell. That is what settled the Bantam, but I still never saw a US schematic only JDM, which confirmed 9 bearings. That was the cool thing Shimano did, add key spot bearings to most all of their reels, except the Aldebaran which keeps one mainshaft (probably for weight reasons anyways).
I think you might want to make a disclaimer here. The reel in your video (may be because of the indoor lighting) almost looked like if it was orange or some kind of a bronze colour. I also watched a few of the Japanese unboxing videos, the real colour is much nicer, more of a candy maroon colour. I am waiting for the 6.2, but somehow only the HG and XG are available at this time. Also, the shorter handle is an issue and I didn't even know it comes with smaller knobs neither for the 6.2 and 7.4.

Alex Fu I doubt knob sizes are different. XG models typically get longer handles, but same knobs

What is the advantage of mgl spool?
Its supposed to have a faster startup, longer casts with less effort. I personally think most of the performance is down to the brakes. The spool helps a little but its the brakes.

How is that MGL spool for inshore? Cause if the gear is brass, and the ball bearings are better than the Curado K, I might put of my Curado K purchase for this Scorpion instead, for inshore.

Honestly I probably wouldnt fish it in salt because the Chronarch MGL spools corroded. Thats why they came out with the Chronarch G. If you do I would unspool the line and rise the spool off asap when you were done.
@@THEREELTEST Allright, I thought I had read somewhere that the MGL was not for saltwater use. I like the large handle on the Curado K too, still the Scorpion is a very nice reel. I don't know if this is the video where you weigh the spools, but the Curado K spool seems "Lightish" too, just 2 grams separating them.
