Nice one! On the old one, I was using braid on the PE mode, and always using 1 for braking! It was working perfectly like that!
This one would also, simply apply a little more tension to the spool tension knob. This video is basically nonsensical.
How many people cast with their right and reel with their left?
Me but switched to left retrieval, I left retrieval with spinning so it made sense nvr going back
I casn with my right and reel with my left. Im left-handed.
Me lol. Makes it easier i feel. Don’t have to keep switching hands to make a cast and engage the reel. Much more convenient if you ask me and efficient…

That’s how you’re supposed to cast. Shimano makes its spool release fit the thumb easier by angling towards the casting hand with the reel on the opposite side.

Which would you recommend of 2015 metanium dc and 2021 scorpio dc? They are 50$ apart, but I can only afford one of them.
I'm torn between scorpion DC or metanium mgl. Can you do a comparison on both? Or the Metanium mgl beats the Scorpion DC hands down?
Any recommendation for line mode, which should I use to prevent backlash and get longer?

just got mine last week and tried it out last weekend... one good thing about the Scorpion DC or for that matter any DC reel.... the backlash IF it happens (regardless 1-4 levels ) is almost always VERY easy to clear vs a conventional baitcaster ...or is it in my mind. Whats your experience with this ?
I'd advise getting a cheap clip-on line counter to measure and call out the distances a little more accurately rather than you calling the different variations of "oh... thats abouttt sayy 30/40+ yards "

thats the piece of equipment I was waiting for in the mail.
on a japan channel the guy just counts the number of cranks as he reels in, after measuring the amount per crank before hand. This works very good as it can give instant feed back while you are fishing. 22 cranks this cast 25 this cast, and he can multiply it out if specific distance is needed.

I think it’s funny that there’s a “wind mode” I always considered casting into the wind one of the major benefits of the DC system in general and the the adjustments were just for lure weight. I was casting a 1/2 oz jig into a 15mph headwind with no issues on 3 with my 17 scorpion yesterday. I probably wouldn’t try that with a non DC reel
I think they just labeled it that for marketing purposes, but yeah, nothing is touching a DC reel into the wind
I am really super impressed with shimano...I was a daiwa dude and dont get me wrong I loved my tatulas but I had to really put a lot effort into casting small lures like the rapala orginal floater in the F7size(1/8th of ounce)...with my bantam I dont have to put that much effort into casting the same distance.
If I use PE(#1) and leader is FC(#5) cable, which Line mode is recommended ?

Mine just came in the mail today - so perfect timing for your video! Question... I'm not able to get the side plate off - was there a "trick" to it? I don't want to force it, but when I move the switch out of the "closed" mode, it just won't come off. Thanks for the great reviews!!
so you are switching the dial to "open" and then pushing the latch? You kind of have to use a finger nail in the gap in between the frame and side plate and pry it apart

Where did you order from?
actually, u can use no 1 brake but u need to tune the tension knob a little bit. 0 side to side play tension knob tune is superb for bfs setup but a no for medium to heavy setup. I can cast a 1/2oz lure reach 55 yards on 8-16lb 7' rod and 10lb 4x line. 0 brake and tension knob tune only(china reel). same tune on curado dc. 1.1oz lure reach 90 yards on 12-25 6'8 rod and 30lb 4x line and tension knob tune only. I'm just sharing my tune ✌😉. DC brake is a beast for a long cast😍

I've used bait casters for decades and refused to use a DC reel. BUT I got a SLX DC and am in love with it. I know how to use a regular bait caster quite well so I don't care about using a DC and don't consider it 'cheating' anymore!
Brother, I would consider the SLX DC(both USDM and JDM) to be about 80% of a DC reel lol

The reel test guy is 100% correct. I have the curado dc and slx dc and they are amazing, especially for the price. But if you love the benefits of the dc brakes on an slx dc, you would go crazy over the brakes on a scorpion or metanium dc. The idc5 system is superior for sure and in a noticeable way. The reel test is about spot on with the 80% number. But again, I do love my curado and slx dc reels as well.
In terms of how much i use my slx dc to my scorpion dc, its more like 20% lol

It looks like an amazing reel but i wonder if the bass will not get used to the dc noise and stop biting.
Is nowhere close enough to loud enough to bother them irl. The microphone picks up the noise well and makes it seem louder than it is.
I hear some extra braking happening on Wind mode right at the start of the cast.(compared to 4)
What is the gear ratio of that reel?
I think we could know which one brake setting that has a further cast from how long the reel sings

Maybe I’m crazy, but it looked like you were casting 10 yards further than you were calling it. Either way it looks like an amazing reel, especially for the money. I ordered mine a few days ago. Should be here in the next week or two

i think we can possibly say the new 21 scorpion dc is the best dc reel to start baitcasting on a budget if you want a DC reel
If you want 100% of the DC experience yes
For the price it's a lot of bang for your buck. I prefer this reel over much more expensive ones.

Use that RH reel the correct way. Cast with your left lmao. Good videos. Love the bantam series rods.
I cast and reel with my right and I can do so just as fast as anyone casting with their left because I switch mid air so no time wasted. That is the correct way for most right handed fisherman. I reel spinning reels with my left hand though.

My buddy just got the slx dc when he got his stimulus. He was mad when we went to the lake and my quantum vapor pt out casted his shimano with heavy and light lures. We threw weightless flukes and my quantum was casting twenty to thirty feet further. Not bad for a reel I got for a hundred bucks.
Quantum’s are crap.. your buddy didn’t know how to set up his reel I guess
@@fishinfrenzy2544 rods make the difference as well. My wife was casting the currado with a moderate action rod 3/8 oz 15lb fluro and I took the lews sp on a medium heavy fast,1/2oz jig and 30lb braid and I outcast her. So many factors.

IDC-5 has a ring magnet which allows the braking system to better control the spool. MGL spool allows the braking system to better control the spool. Combine the two, and it should be one of the best casting DC reels out there.
That's the difference between IDC-5 vs IDC-4, and why it has more options to pick from versus something like an Curado or SLX DC.
DC reels use electromagnets

DC-4 magnets aren't a single magnet, they're individual magnets.
DC-5 magnets are a ring magnet. It's a single magnet around the entire spool.

I have scorpions DC's on 90% of my setups. If price is too much grab the previous model. Its a great reel and I like it more than any other reel own and some are considered higherend. Unless it's performance blows away the previous model I'll stick with previous. For now im just grabbing one to try. If I like I'll grab the 5 or 6 I need if not then previous model.

They aren’t mate....I ordered it and got one shipped here with the first lot of shipments though. It’s easy enough done....
Only thing is no domestic warranty when ordered this way, but I service all my own reels so not a big problem if your that way inclined👍
(...I also pulled it apart and modified a few things as soon as I opened it, so warranty goes out the window anyway lol🤷♂️😅)

Yeah man. Curado DC is awesome reel but this new scorpion DC is next level! The new tune on the IDC5 is crazy good! 🤤
I’d like to mention that it looks like it’s going a lot farther than it is also it’s highly recommended to use braided line on bait casters and you always feels fool to full. They weren’t designed to operate with a half a spool of line.

the Metanium is lighter, but performance wise, its not going to be that much better to warrant the big price increase.
