Changpuek Kiatsongrit (Muay Thai) vs Rick Roufus (American Kickboxing) - 1988-11-05 (Remastered)

  • Roufus wants to fight a (Thai) Muay Thai fighter, but the fight takes place under 'special' ISKA rules; Changpuek is not allowed knee, elbow or leg grab and kick supporting leg - techniques allowed in a true Muay Thai fight. Changpuek needs a bit of time getting used to the rules before sending Roufus to the hospital. The commentators/Roufus' corner... What a bitter showcase of ignorance and frustration.

    Great piece of History, Im here because of the Rogan podcast, but Im also here because this is the best uncut video of this I could find on youtube. The other ones were either edited with crappy emotional music, removing the commentary OR with some crazy image correction/stabiliser that was whack and ruined the video. So thanks for this upload - it totally lived up to the hype.

    Haha rick’s brother, duke said "it takes no talent to throw a low kick."... Later he became known as a great Muay Thai fighter and especially known for dangerous leg kicks.

      So you're saying it takes more talent to be proficient with a less useful martial art? So when everyone is fighting on equal terms using a highly efficient martial art (muay thai), what do you call it when someone is able to trump another fighter due to mastery of the martial art? Luck? You don't think anyone with talent in kickboxing could transfer their talent to the art of muay thai? It takes talent to be effective in muay thai, to be able to use the thai skillset to it's utmost and beat other powerful fighters, it's not something as simple as just learning how to use muay thai and then you'll be able to win any fight with ease because you're using a "dumber" type of fighting style. You're on equal fighting terms because you're fighting other people using the same martial art as you do, obviously the more talented will rise to the top.

    • @Putridprudential
      @Putridprudential 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There are a lot of different factors determining the result of a fight, how do you know that the only reason he won was because he had more talent? What if he trained harder? What if he fought fighters with more talent than him but due to their lack of experience and hard work could not best him? Most importantly, How do you even go about measuring raw talent in a fight? Rick is a talented fighter, as shown by his record, but you would have no way of measuring any opposing fighters talent, just like Rick losing to Changpuek Kiatsongrit does not mean he had less talent. Secondly, you keep talking about Rick beating "they" and "them" at their own game, but this faceless mass you're referring to consists only of a select number of fighters, obviously there are multiple people who would tear his ass apart, so no he did not beat anyone at their own game, rather he adopted a different type of game and excelled in it.

You know Muay thai first round is warm up and feeling out. The funny thing is there was 1000 more muay thai fighters back in Thailand better then this guy in the 80's, Rick should have faced Sagat so he could learn he can lose by only Thai Clinch and Knees nothing else hahaha

      Changpuek was not a 160+ lbs fighter, he fought at 140-150 lbs against fellow Thai fighters during that time.
      Roufus was not 50 lbs bigger than Changpuek but Roufus was 13 lbs to 23 lbs ( if we believe the announcer ) or 17 lbs to 27 lbs ( if we believe Alex Tsui who is a striking historian ) bigger than Changpuek.
      Again being 13 lbs to 27 lbs heavier ( Rick was a 163-167 lbs fighter ) than your opponent ( who is a 140-150 lbs fighter ) and still losing to him by KO ( while wearing shinguards ) is truly a bad look.
