@@grungerkr020 I’m so honored to hear that, thank you! I put my settings out there in hopes that it will help people, I’m happy they’ve been working for you 🙂
@@thepatterpatrol26 Yup that's all he was. It's not like the few albums he put out are still massively influential 30 years after his death and 2 of his guitars are currently not the two most expensive guitars ever sold at 6 million and 4.7 million. Any junkie could do that.
I got hooked on this channel with the Bleach record tones. Safe to say you're now one of my favorite TH-camrs. Thank you for sharing this and I'll be checking out your band.
I’m starting to realize my love of offset bodies is because of Kurt. I haven’t listened to nirvana in years, but they still have an impression on my taste in music.
i just picked up a squier classic vibe mustang in sonic blue and it sounds great, i can get really good live in utero tones and it almost looks like skystang!
kurt is very high on my list of influences, that list including frank iero, jerry garcia, eddie van halen, robin skinner, claudio sanchez, and yvette young to name but a few. and as important as they all were and are to my own musical journey, kurt is one of my absolute favorite musicians to have ever lived. it took me a long time to really appreciate nirvana’s music, but after i really dove into it, it was like learning a new language. the way kurt used direct lyrics and driving guitar riffs to tell intricate and complex stories is absolutely incredible. in the decades since his death, we’ve seen a number of artists do what kurt pioneered, and while they all do it very well, there was something very special about how and when kurt wrote the music he did. kurt was uniquely brilliant, and that can never be understated. i wish him a very happy birthday, wherever the hell he ended up
@@MissJazz004 Awesome. Frank (and MCR in general, they're my favorite band) is very influential for my writing/playing as well. Frank and Ray really know how to come up with unique and memorable guitar parts (often played at the same time). I need to listen to more Coheed. I love their debut.
A beautiful collection and a perfect way as a musician to pay such great respects to a legend who influenced so many of us. Happy Birthday Kurt, we miss you.
Your videos are fantastic and your gear collection is remarkable. I passed up a Jag-Stang many years ago and still regret it. My Squier Super Sonic has a definite Nirvana vibe tho!
Love Kurt's gear, and it's also a great way to introduce players into knowing about different pick ups and different pedals, bc it's just so bare bones it's really easy for newer players to understand what's going on and later on learn more and more
Your collection is really nice! What made me really sad is the fact that one of his guitars was sold for millions of dollars. That’s exactly what he wouldn’t want.
Oh Man just found your channel a couple of days ago - and OH MAN! Been Nirvana fan and a guitar player since almost 30 years now. Just wanted to say that your dedication here and professionalism and knowledge are just beyond amazing! Thank you very much for the details, hints, and what is the most important keeping the legend alive! Keep going man!
While im not a fan of nirvana i respect them as a musician and guitarist, especially one who loves student and pawnshop retired guitar brands and names. Shame we lost Kurt.
Nirvana was a massive influence on me, I was 12 in 92 when I first heard Nevermind and that was it. I was lucky enough to get ahold of a Cobain Mustang right when they came out and I love it. I did swap the jb for a super distortion and replaced the tuners with Gotoh's but that's about it. That guitar thru my Mesa studio 22 or deluxe reverb can nail just about any tone. I had an original Jag-Stang years ago, the neck was phenomenal but I just couldn't stand the body. I kinda regret selling it but I liked it more for what it was vs how it played. Funny enough I picked up a Univox Hi Flyer in 93 for $50 and traded it to a guy for an Ibanez RG470 in 96. Seemed like a good idea at the time but I seriously regret that one.
great collection man, those guitar look great! also great pedalboard! i totally understand why you got that amp in particular, makes sense ! ill subscribe just to see and hear you playing your wear
These videos are very interesting. I grew up during the grunge era and this was the music of my childhood. Different time for sure. I was in an alternative rock band that had a small following in my area. We used to start off with the intro to purple Haze and then we would go into rocking in The Free world. That was awesome. People really liked it.
I was no where near born in his time but I can tell you he still is helping the youth of today and we miss him and I hope he is doing good in the afterlife. Also I love your videos and this is an amazing video.
Really dig the collection. Pretty sure the Big Muff used on Lithium was a V6 NYC , definitely a transistor version and the era makes sense. Sounds like Krist's Rat is stacked into the mix as well for that track. Would be really cool to find out a Russian Muff was used, definitely my fav of the bunch (Love mids!!!!)
Since posting my Lithium tone explanation video, people have been pointing out the NYC big muffs to me! Really wish I had known that before so i could've included it in that video
One thing I learnt from your video we should live for ourselves as well. Focusing on family thinking about future could put more pressure so sometimes we should spend our money on ourselves.
I wish I could have a Kurt Cobain collection like yours but my bank account would down the drain if I would try to recreate your setup. Keep up the good work I’ve been inspired to play guitar by watching these vids. Have a good day 👍🏼
That Jag-Stang prototype is also a Peter Buck model, as he got it once Kurt passed away. It can be seen in the video for "What's the Frequency, Kenneth?"
In 94 two weeks he passed away, a telecaster was sent to Kurt, he said that is his favorite one, on Internet you can find all the info, it would be great if you included it in your collection
Interesting fact about Kurt's competition mustang (that you may know already) - it was purchased by Jim Irsay, owner of the Indianapolis Colts, and he actually tours his guitar collection (which has tons of other interesting guitars and artifacts). Look up the Jim Irsay collection and if you can make it to a stop you can see it in person
For a budget echo flanger or poly chorus you should look at the flamma mini mod! I am deciding whether or not to buy it and I'm wondering if that has similar effects
I had his Jaguar, but am just keeping the Mustang (for sound) and Jagstang (for looks/modding). You're going to love it when you get the studio preamp with a Mesa power amp. Mesa/Boogie makes them sound twice as good as a Fender Twin, IMO. I might be selling them soon too, if you're interested. I have a Conrad-Johnson PV-2 as preamp now, that somehow sounds even better for about the same price. I wanted to get Kurt's tone and then improve it for so many years, and I feel like the PV-2 was the ticket to that for me. (You can hear both preamps compared on my channel) But, the Mesa/Boogie with a Mustang is the exact tone of his that I wanted, (Nevermind / Incesticide tone) and it seems to record better for some reason. I'm not sure I'm ready to part with it yet, because I still like having his exact tone, but sometime soon, because I want to explore more hifi distortion guitar tones.
I like my epi et 270 a bunch. Alot different than the others for sure. Mine doesn't have an E decal on it and I think someone cut a new nut. I wonder if a stock one would make it much different. The nut does make a big difference believe it or not sometimes. Either way it's a lovely guitar, even for non nirvana stuff. The pickups need no changing. I got an eastwood phase iv too, which is nice, and it's a cut above other eastwood guitars I've gotten my hands on. Like they make replicas of old guitars and lots of times that's what they are, replicas. This ones solid though. The pickups aren't quite as hot as the old ones but they do alright I guess with fuzz pedals. I got a few fuzz factorys from zvex and they scream. You're right on time with the amp man. I got a couple but I found a tonemaster is all I need, especially just playing alone in my room. Sounds like tubes without all the maintenance and weight. Old folks don't like them cause they don't "move air" or something. If you want the sound of a fender amp, get a tonemaster for real. Things in this world do change and get better and this is definetly one of them for sure. I got the deluxe reverb and it works for my needs just fine.
My collection is as follows: Fender Marauder (blue, triple humbucker) Fender Jaguar (MIJ, block inlays, stock singles) Fender Vintera Mustang (sunburst) Univox Hy-flyer phase 1 custom (sunburst tortoise, stock big singles) Squier Classic Vibe Jazzmaster (sunburst with gold guard and custom roasted neck locking tuners) Fender Offset "nashville" Tele (it's a jazzmaster shape with a tele bridge and 3 singles) Fernandes Telecaster (bound candy apple red with seymour duncan quarter pounds) Squier Offset Telecaster (white stock but still awesome Squier 51 (with one humbucker in the bridge) G&L Doheny (like a jazzmaster kinda) And last but certainly not least is Yamaha Pacifica 510v (one pickup and floating bridge. May be my best one)
