The thing about Empoleon already being Napoleon is you have to remember they already did this in Legends Arceus. Arcanine and Zoroark were both already based on very japanese things and yet they gave them regional forms that were just based on... The things they were already based on. So it's not impossible that they'd do the same for Empoleon. We also got to keep in mind that game freak don't really abide by fan made patterns and we have no idea if they'll give the starters regional forms like in the last game, mega evolutions, both, or even make them convergent mons. Also the Fire/Ghost Emboar you brought up would be REALLY funny because it'd make Emboar both the third Fire/Fighting type starter in a row AND the third Fire/Ghost type starter in a row. Has anyone else noticed we've almost gone three for three again?
I really, really hope they do this with Emboar. Pokemon Z-A already feels like they trolled us with how they did the unexpected. If its not Emboar, at least give us another fire/ghost starter.

You convinced me with Popplio. Some people were theorizing Torchic because the Rooster is the national bird of France... but the fact it has a mega makes me doubt it. Lop eared rabbits were first bred in France, so maybe a Fire and Fairy type Cinderace could work?
For me personally i want Snivy, Totodile, Chimchar. I just feel those starter's deserve something new to play with like a regional form or a Mega. Like i want Serperior to have something else going for it other than contrary for example.
Inteleon should’ve been water/ghost. All 3 galar starters were done so dirty in terms of designs and only having 1 type when they could have had some fun with their second types. At least they got gigantamax forms when the kalos starters didn’t get megas. Still weird that they didn’t get megas in their own gen where megas are from.

Don't forget that in Legends Arceus, the starters may or may not have been picked based on where Cynthia has been: Alola (Battle Tree) for Rowlet, Johto (Sinjoh Ruins) for Cyndaquil, and Unova (Undella Town) for Oshawott. Have we seen a character introduced in Kalos, be in 3 different regions? If so then perhaps they might continue this unspecified trend.
Serperior being a starter here is a no brainer. I just hope this time they give his movepool a huge upgrade cos he barely has any coverage in Black and White, and even in the sequels it's still oretty limited
You could also just not be all that creative when coming up for something new for Empoleon. Because other people have made stuff. Also France doesn’t just play soccer or football too, they are very very very good at it and have won the World Cup a couple times recently or something.
Another option is that Legends Z-A will have the original Kalos starters instead of a new trio. The reasoning being that, if they want to give the starers megas then itd be weird to do it with a mismatched trio since then that pokemon would be unbalanced in its original trio. And i know Charizard is already like this, have an extra mega over Blastoise and Venusaur, but Charizard is Charizard thats just how it is. Itd feel weird with any other pokemon lol. Of course theres always the possibility that they're not giving the starters megas, which would be lame, but it does solve that problem. But also come on, the kalos starters should have gotten megas anyway ages ago
I think my most preferred outcome is that they have a starter trio like Legends: Arceus that get regional forms, and then the Kalos trio are either caught in the wild or obtained as a second set of starters (like the Kanto starters in X and Y) and then get their own Mega Evolutions
Would be absolutely hilarious if emboar, for the second time in a row, got a dual typing that two previous fire type starters got. We just had two fire ghost types between legends arceus and Scarlet/violet just like we had just had two fire fighting starters prior to gen 5.
I really don't understand why people keep thinking that pokemon with megas can't be options, if they do regional evolutions again,. the regional forms wouldn't have the same megas, so it kinda makes no sense, even if you think it's too much representation, you have to remember that some pokemon get multiple updates (Charizard!) so it's still possible.
@@radiomochi the issue is that you are thinking that the starters will get megas when Pokémon X and Y gave Megas to any Pokémon but the starters. So it is more likely that the regional variants won't have Mega evolution and Kalos starters will get battle bond evolutions since they didnt have the Mega ring in the past
Popplio is my favorite Pokemon, so I hope he's a starter. I also hope that the regional Primarina, if it exists, is more masculine. I always felt like Primarina needed a male version.
My personal predictions are as follows: Charmander (Charizard Z), Empoleon, and Serperior. Although this does lead to Pokemon from the DS era which is a possible issue. EDIT: It's quite likely to resolve the issue that Empoleon isn't the water starter and that it is instead Poplio based on the video's reasoning.
Personally I think that the Kalos starters will be treated like the Kanto starters were in XY and not be "first partner Pokemon" but be given Mega's and your actual first Pokemon will an old Starter with a new regional form As for your choices I agree that Snivy and Scorbunny make the most sense for their types and I could see either Piplup or Popplio working for Water and either one would also have another similarly with the Arceus starters being 2 monotypes and 1 dual type
Honestly I really want snivy, totodile and chimchar to get the mega treatment. I can very much see chimchar becoming something like Son Wukong, Snivy becoming like a royal dragon and totodile turning into a beast on all fours. Design wise I fully believe that these three have the most potential
I think we will have 2 trios of starters, one for the main story (they will have the Lumiosian/Kalosian regional form) and one for the post game (they will have the Mega Evo). For the main game, we will have all pokémon related/inspired to France history and folklore, therefore: - Piplup, so Empoleon, because in his name there is the word "Napoleon"; - Snivy, so Serperior, because his design is inspired by European royalty, during the 17th/18th century (e.g. Luis XIV, the Sun King) ; - Torchic, so Blaziken, because the rooster is the emblem of France; or Scorbunny, so Cinderace, because soccer/football is the most followed sport in France. I know Blaziken already had a megaevo, but let's not forget Charizad has 2 megaevo, so anything is possible tbh... For the post game, since gen 7 had their own Z-Move, and gen 8 had their own Gigantamax form, then gen 6 starters must have the Mega-Evo, and we will have the starter with the typing opposite the one we chose on the main game, so if we chose Piplup, we'll get Chespin; if we chose Torchic, we'll get Froakie; if we chose Snivy, we'll get Fennekin.
The starters will definitely be Piplup, Torchic and Snivy. Blaziken already having a mega evolution will certainly not affect it being a starter in this game, as they will get regional forms in any case. These three make the most sense for Legends Z-A.

@@pokemonhorizonsost Oh please, Torchic's line hasn't been relevant for the better half of a decade now. Scorbunny is recent, and unlike Decidueye, Scorbunny is plenty strong. Scorbunny and Litten make less sense because of how strong they are, and the other two fire fighting starters don't make any sense at all. So torchic is the most probable option.

And none of the fire type starters match the theme of a France-based region other than Torchic. If you are recently on the competitive-singles side of things in the recent years, you would know, that Cinderace is literally a better version of Greninja. And has been a great and popular option for competitive players for some time now. In fact, Cinderace has been the best fire-type starter in competitive in recent times. I just don't see Pokemon visiting a rather recent pokemon, who is very strong, and gets so much love. I just think Cinderace or Rillaboom won't be the ones they choose from Galar if they choose a starter for a Legends game in the future. If it was Intelion, it might have been very probable. And it's no secret, VGC players lose sleep over Incineroar every day. Like themes, balance is also very important to them. So I don't see them choosing Scorbunny or Litten. I love both all three of them, Cinderace, Incineroar and Blaziken, but to me, Blaziken makes the most sense.
Dudey fance literally won the wc before the last wc, football is huge there, like in all of Europe. The big football nations are probably germany, spain, italy, and lets say england even though they haven't won anything in forever, but france is also hugely invested in football and its definitely part of their identity.
Now that you mentioned it, I really do want a fire/fairy regional form for the litten family now. Although i must say it is the weakest (in terms of concept) to be chosen as a starter. But it would be the first time we have the type combo, so its cool to imagine. Personally, my guess for the starters are Snivy, Piplup and Scorbunny. (Then maybe a mega for the kalos starters, idk maybe were asking for too much lol)
pokemon as of recently, goes for something fans aren't expecting... a lot of people are expecting snivy as the grass starter but to be honest, i would like it more for Chikorita to get this, and finaly make a better version/variant.
The starters will be Meganium, Infernape and Popplio and they will get regional forms. The original Kalos starters will get megas. That's what the leaks said.
With the game taking place entirely in Lumiose City, it's hard to tell if they're going to be super diverse in their Pokemon selections, or if the game will mainly include Pokemon that could fit into the "city" aesthetic (and also all the Kalos Originals, duh). Because if they're willing to experiment with what lives in Lumiose, I could totally see them using a foreign set of starters, and then reintroducing the Kalos starters with their new Megas (my theory is we're getting a foreign set of starters with regional forms and then the Kalos starters with Megas) because that leaves room for us to discover the Kalos starters at our own pace. But if we're getting a game where it's mostly sewer Muks, rooftop Fletchlings, and back alley Krokoroks, I think they're going to stick with the Kalos starter trio as our starters.
What about the theme that was specific to the Kalos starters, the theme of fantasy character classes. I am not sure exactly which set of three would fit this mold though
The issue is that people think that the starters will get a mega when most likely the ones megas are going to be Kalos starters. So the idea of removing Gen 3 or even Gen 1 or Gen 9 makes no sense. The only pokemon we know are not going to appear as starters are the ones from Legends Arceus. I think that we will get regional variants to Empoleon, Blaziken and Serperior and the kalos starters will get new Mega evolutions like Ash Greninja.

I personally think ZA will be set after the events of XY. I think the starters will be the 3 current Kalos starters. If ZA is set after XY, and there’s some plot reason where the Kalos has new starters, I’d love the starters to be Snivy, Piplup, and Scorbunny. But I’d also love for the Kalos starters to get megas along side those starters.
I think it's good to look at all the possibilities. I'm actually hoping for the Kalos starters, everyone seems to be quick to rule them out because it's a Legends game, I'm just saying that 1 game doesn't make a formula, so there's no way to know they'll be "Kalosian" starters like they did with Arceus, I wasn't a fan of any of the really. Also, the Grass Kalos starter was so so so poorly done it deserves some attention to try and redeem it, the Fire starter was ok but could be done so much better, Greninja doesn't need anything, but with its ability being nerfed, it'd be nice to see it have a change and balance it out, you know, I'd even be down to see it have an X and Y mega evolution given it's by far the most popular. I could see Empoleon, Serperior and Cinderace as the starters. Each one of them are giving that Royalty / Aristocratic vibe. Maybe they'll change Cinderace, give it a Royal crown and cape to lessen it's modern design. Cinderance's anatomy is a good base for a Prince outfit. It will work. Primarina is a good option too the next best water starter after Swampert. They'll probably give it a Marie Antoinette makeover instead of the French Circus if they'll focus on what happened after the war. I don't think they will add circus while the entire Lumiose city is recovering from the damage. They'll probably use the starters as Royal representatives of 3 rival kingdoms. But whatever they will come up with I would still play. Kalos is one of my favorite regions it has so much history and aesthetics. I'm excited to see a different form for Lucario and Diancie. A royal knight and a princess form perhaps.
One more reason popplio can be a starter because incineroar was in smash and decidueye was in pokken tournament and primarina was left all behind so i think they van possibly make popplio a starter since other 2 alolan starters already got special treatment.
Empoleon is also based on Poseidon (which could be expanded on and made more clear with a mega) and Emboar (kinda like the Overwatch Roadhog Chinese Lunar Mew Year Skin) is based on Zhu Bajie

For the folks who think that Game Freak likes to give "hints" to future games, one of the trailers for the Indigo disk showed Cyndaquil and Torchic together, Oshawott and Piplup together and Rowlett and Snivy together (before showing the rest of the starters), which would suggest that we'd get Snivy, Torchic and Piplup would be the PLZA starters. But we'll just have to wait for a gameplay trailer to find out.
Those pick wont happen since Legends Arceus's Starters only gave us 1 Pokemon that where in Sinnoh in the present while Rowlet and Oshawott was foreign to Hisui since both Rowlet and Oshawott didnt exist in the Sinnoh region, so i DONT expect Torchic to be a starter since it already exist in Kalos, Plus it already has a Mega form, so you need to rule it out and i would pick a Fire Starter Pokemon that is either a Gen 7 or 8 which either Litten or Scorbunny and i think we will get 1 or 2 Pokemon that didnt exist in Kalos's National dex.
@@courage1363 Sure, maybe. It's all speculation until we get more info. We've only had one Legends game so far, and we don't know which mechanics and patterns will or won't carry over to PLZA. Regardless of whatever starters we get, they'll likely have different typings from the originals and (if they already have mega evolutions) new mega forms. So I see no issue with a Pokémon that already has a Gen 6 mega getting a new mega in PLZA. GameFreak loves to throw curveballs and they have no problem giving new forms to already-popular Pokémon, so we'll just have to wait until the next trailer to see which starters we actually get.

That's why i made edits for Kalos forms of Primarina, (water/psychic, with a Pierrot form), Emboar (Fire/steel, a musketeer type design) and Meganium (Grass/Fairy, turning its flower into a mix of a Snapdragon and the Fleur-de-Lis :D)
My first thought for the water starter was Piplup but then I realized that Primarina could fit as well with it being based on an Opera singer. It could go either way. Personally, I'm hoping the starters get regional forms rather than megas. I love megas, but most likely this will be the last game we see them in for a while. Regional forms can be transferred to other games but megas can't. Either way, I'm curious what the designs will look like. I think it's safe to assume they will be very French in design. So, how do you make a royal snake, a soccer playing rabbit, and a Neptune-Napoleon-penguin or an opera singer more French? Also, what will the types be?

Would be absolutely hilarious if emboar, for the second time in a row, got a dual typing that two previous fire type starters got. We just had two fire ghost types between legends arceus and Scarlet/violet just like we had just had two fire fighting starters prior to gen 5.
It is Emboar's destiny to have an overused typing no matter how many forms it gets 😭
If they are going to give regional variants to the starters like in Legends Arceus it could create new possibilities for the starter choices
I really don't understand why people keep thinking that pokemon with megas can't be options, if they do regional evolutions again,. the regional forms wouldn't have the same megas, so it kinda makes no sense, even if you think it's too much representation, you have to remember that some pokemon get multiple updates (Charizard!) so it's still possible.
I just think "Mega Kalosian Blaziken" is a bit too much of a mouthful for Game Freak to consider, but I wouldn't mind being wrong!
@@radiomochi the issue is that you are thinking that the starters will get megas when Pokémon X and Y gave Megas to any Pokémon but the starters. So it is more likely that the regional variants won't have Mega evolution and Kalos starters will get battle bond evolutions since they didnt have the Mega ring in the past

Popplio is my favorite Pokemon, so I hope he's a starter. I also hope that the regional Primarina, if it exists, is more masculine. I always felt like Primarina needed a male version.

My personal predictions are as follows: Charmander (Charizard Z), Empoleon, and Serperior. Although this does lead to Pokemon from the DS era which is a possible issue. EDIT: It's quite likely to resolve the issue that Empoleon isn't the water starter and that it is instead Poplio based on the video's reasoning.
I know a lot of people joke about it, but I'd really love to see Mega Charizard Z too!
Personally I think that the Kalos starters will be treated like the Kanto starters were in XY and not be "first partner Pokemon" but be given Mega's and your actual first Pokemon will an old Starter with a new regional form
As for your choices I agree that Snivy and Scorbunny make the most sense for their types and I could see either Piplup or Popplio working for Water and either one would also have another similarly with the Arceus starters being 2 monotypes and 1 dual type

Honestly I really want snivy, totodile and chimchar to get the mega treatment. I can very much see chimchar becoming something like Son Wukong, Snivy becoming like a royal dragon and totodile turning into a beast on all fours. Design wise I fully believe that these three have the most potential
I think we will have 2 trios of starters, one for the main story (they will have the Lumiosian/Kalosian regional form) and one for the post game (they will have the Mega Evo).
For the main game, we will have all pokémon related/inspired to France history and folklore, therefore:
- Piplup, so Empoleon, because in his name there is the word "Napoleon";
- Snivy, so Serperior, because his design is inspired by European royalty, during the 17th/18th century (e.g. Luis XIV, the Sun King) ;
- Torchic, so Blaziken, because the rooster is the emblem of France; or Scorbunny, so Cinderace, because soccer/football is the most followed sport in France.
I know Blaziken already had a megaevo, but let's not forget Charizad has 2 megaevo, so anything is possible tbh...
For the post game, since gen 7 had their own Z-Move, and gen 8 had their own Gigantamax form, then gen 6 starters must have the Mega-Evo, and we will have the starter with the typing opposite the one we chose on the main game, so if we chose Piplup, we'll get Chespin; if we chose Torchic, we'll get Froakie; if we chose Snivy, we'll get Fennekin.
The starters will definitely be Piplup, Torchic and Snivy. Blaziken already having a mega evolution will certainly not affect it being a starter in this game, as they will get regional forms in any case. These three make the most sense for Legends Z-A.
Get torchic out of the list and replace with scorbunny, how much powerful do you want the same Pokémon that is the best enough to be, I swear gamefreak be spoiling ya
@@pokemonhorizonsost Oh please, Torchic's line hasn't been relevant for the better half of a decade now. Scorbunny is recent, and unlike Decidueye, Scorbunny is plenty strong. Scorbunny and Litten make less sense because of how strong they are, and the other two fire fighting starters don't make any sense at all. So torchic is the most probable option.

@@pokemonhorizonsost I understand where you are coming from, but thematic matching is very important to Game Freak and TPCI. And none of the fire type starters match the theme of a France-based region other than Torchic.
If you are recently on the competitive-singles side of things in the recent years, you would know, that Cinderace is literally a better version of Greninja. And has been a great and popular option for competitive players for some time now. In fact, Cinderace has been the best fire-type starter in competitive in recent times. I just don't see Pokemon visiting a rather recent pokemon, who is very strong, and gets so much love.
I just think Cinderace or Rillaboom won't be the ones they choose from Galar if they choose a starter for a Legends game in the future. If it was Intelion, it might have been very probable.
And it's no secret, VGC players lose sleep over Incineroar every day.
Like themes, balance is also very important to them. So I don't see them choosing Scorbunny or Litten. I love both all three of them, Cinderace, Incineroar and Blaziken, but to me, Blaziken makes the most sense.
Dudey fance literally won the wc before the last wc, football is huge there, like in all of Europe. The big football nations are probably germany, spain, italy, and lets say england even though they haven't won anything in forever, but france is also hugely invested in football and its definitely part of their identity.
They got to give the Kalos starters mega evolutions this go round just to keep the interest high and fans more of a reason to catch them again

Now that you mentioned it, I really do want a fire/fairy regional form for the litten family now. Although i must say it is the weakest (in terms of concept) to be chosen as a starter. But it would be the first time we have the type combo, so its cool to imagine. Personally, my guess for the starters are Snivy, Piplup and Scorbunny. (Then maybe a mega for the kalos starters, idk maybe were asking for too much lol)

With the game taking place entirely in Lumiose City, it's hard to tell if they're going to be super diverse in their Pokemon selections, or if the game will mainly include Pokemon that could fit into the "city" aesthetic (and also all the Kalos Originals, duh). Because if they're willing to experiment with what lives in Lumiose, I could totally see them using a foreign set of starters, and then reintroducing the Kalos starters with their new Megas (my theory is we're getting a foreign set of starters with regional forms and then the Kalos starters with Megas) because that leaves room for us to discover the Kalos starters at our own pace. But if we're getting a game where it's mostly sewer Muks, rooftop Fletchlings, and back alley Krokoroks, I think they're going to stick with the Kalos starter trio as our starters.
Also, another point for Primarina: siren in French, sirène, specifically refers to mermaids! 🧜♀️
What about the theme that was specific to the Kalos starters, the theme of fantasy character classes. I am not sure exactly which set of three would fit this mold though

I was just following on from the precedent set by Legends: Arceus, but that's actually a really cool idea!
The issue is that people think that the starters will get a mega when most likely the ones megas are going to be Kalos starters. So the idea of removing Gen 3 or even Gen 1 or Gen 9 makes no sense. The only pokemon we know are not going to appear as starters are the ones from Legends Arceus.
I think that we will get regional variants to Empoleon, Blaziken and Serperior and the kalos starters will get new Mega evolutions like Ash Greninja.

I think the starters will be the 3 current Kalos starters.
If ZA is set after XY, and there’s some plot reason where the Kalos has new starters, I’d love the starters to be Snivy, Piplup, and Scorbunny.
But I’d also love for the Kalos starters to get megas along side those starters.
I think it's good to look at all the possibilities. I'm actually hoping for the Kalos starters, everyone seems to be quick to rule them out because it's a Legends game, I'm just saying that 1 game doesn't make a formula, so there's no way to know they'll be "Kalosian" starters like they did with Arceus, I wasn't a fan of any of the really. Also, the Grass Kalos starter was so so so poorly done it deserves some attention to try and redeem it, the Fire starter was ok but could be done so much better, Greninja doesn't need anything, but with its ability being nerfed, it'd be nice to see it have a change and balance it out, you know, I'd even be down to see it have an X and Y mega evolution given it's by far the most popular. You heard it here first.

I could see Empoleon, Serperior and Cinderace as the starters. Each one of them are giving that Royalty / Aristocratic vibe. Maybe they'll change Cinderace, give it a Royal crown and cape to lessen it's modern design. Cinderance's anatomy is a good base for a Prince outfit. It will work. Primarina is a good option too the next best water starter after Swampert. They'll probably give it a Marie Antoinette makeover instead of the French Circus if they'll focus on what happened after the war. I don't think they will add circus while the entire Lumiose city is recovering from the damage. They'll probably use the starters as Royal representatives of 3 rival kingdoms. But whatever they will come up with I would still play. Kalos is one of my favorite regions it has so much history and aesthetics. I'm excited to see a different form for Lucario and Diancie. A royal knight and a princess form perhaps.
One more reason popplio can be a starter because incineroar was in smash and decidueye was in pokken tournament and primarina was left all behind so i think they van possibly make popplio a starter since other 2 alolan starters already got special treatment.
I would've ruled out all three Sinnoh starters as well as they appeared in the wild in Legends: Arceus.
The problem for me is that in this case we would have two snake-shaped starters, being Serperior and Primarina. I don’t think they’d do that
Empoleon is also based on Poseidon (which could be expanded on and made more clear with a mega) and Emboar (kinda like the Overwatch Roadhog Chinese Lunar Mew Year Skin) is based on Zhu Bajie

For the folks who think that Game Freak likes to give "hints" to future games, one of the trailers for the Indigo disk showed Cyndaquil and Torchic together, Oshawott and Piplup together and Rowlett and Snivy together (before showing the rest of the starters), which would suggest that we'd get Snivy, Torchic and Piplup would be the PLZA starters. But we'll just have to wait for a gameplay trailer to find out.
Those pick wont happen since Legends Arceus's Starters only gave us 1 Pokemon that where in Sinnoh in the present while Rowlet and Oshawott was foreign to Hisui since both Rowlet and Oshawott didnt exist in the Sinnoh region, so i DONT expect Torchic to be a starter since it already exist in Kalos, Plus it already has a Mega form, so you need to rule it out and i would pick a Fire Starter Pokemon that is either a Gen 7 or 8 which either Litten or Scorbunny and i think we will get 1 or 2 Pokemon that didnt exist in Kalos's National dex.
@@courage1363 Sure, maybe. It's all speculation until we get more info. We've only had one Legends game so far, and we don't know which mechanics and patterns will or won't carry over to PLZA. Regardless of whatever starters we get, they'll likely have different typings from the originals and (if they already have mega evolutions) new mega forms. So I see no issue with a Pokémon that already has a Gen 6 mega getting a new mega in PLZA. GameFreak loves to throw curveballs and they have no problem giving new forms to already-popular Pokémon, so we'll just have to wait until the next trailer to see which starters we actually get.

That's why i made edits for Kalos forms of Primarina, (water/psychic, with a Pierrot form), Emboar (Fire/steel, a musketeer type design) and Meganium (Grass/Fairy, turning its flower into a mix of a Snapdragon and the Fleur-de-Lis :D)

My first thought for the water starter was Piplup but then I realized that Primarina could fit as well with it being based on an Opera singer. It could go either way.
Personally, I'm hoping the starters get regional forms rather than megas. I love megas, but most likely this will be the last game we see them in for a while. Regional forms can be transferred to other games but megas can't. Either way, I'm curious what the designs will look like. I think it's safe to assume they will be very French in design. So, how do you make a royal snake, a soccer playing rabbit, and a Neptune-Napoleon-penguin or an opera singer more French? Also, what will the types be?
