Man this makes me so nostalgic. I spent two years in Germany (almost entirely during peak Covid) and did a lot of hiking including the mountains around Neuschwanstein.
This brings back wonderful memories of my own visit to Neuschwanstein in the spring of 2004. It was still early enough in the season that it was snowy at the feet of the Alps, and they transported those of us who were taking the tour from the parking lot to the castle itself in horse-drawn carriages. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had!
Stunning , I'm from the u.k and have visited many castles here it's interesting to see the different styles of architecture in other countries and learn the back stories . 😊
It's a bit of a stretch to really call it a castle. It is more of a palace. But it was also built in the 19th century. If you are looking for more fortification style castles im germany, I would recommend Hohenzollen castle
I am so happy that you got to go there and experience that!! It is one of my dreams to go on a European castle tour. I hope you had an excellent time and thank you for the content!
I took this trip by myself a little over a year ago. Drove all the way from Stuttgart to Triberg to Lake Constance then to Füssen and saw a few castles on the way. It was amazing. I also had to learn how to drive manual on the fly due to confusion on the rental. I made it though! Glad you got to enjoy Germany too. Looked fun!
Hey I’m in Bavaria right now! If you get a chance Herrenchiemsee Castle is very interesting. The last and biggest building project of Ludwig II. It’s completely based off Versailles except a lot of the rooms are actually bigger. There’s some pretty unique stuff there. What an interesting figure Ludwig II was, in the bed chambers there is a blue orb as a sign of him being the “moon king”. I think he’s a sign of monarchs losing their power and wishing for the good old days of being absolute. It’s in a pretty area as well, on an island of a beautiful lake. Have a great trip
I very much remember that one. That was over 30 years ago on a high school trip. We visited many of Ludwig's castles, the concentration camp at Dachau, Salzburg Austria, Lucerne Switzerland, and Munich West Germany.
fun fact: the german constitution, the "grundgesetz", was written on the same island as herrenchiemsee castle, the Herreninsel, just a different building
I just took my family here two weeks ago. I prefer the Tower of London, but Neuschwanstein is beautiful, especially with the snowy alps in the background.
I was just at Neuschwanstein a few weeks ago on Christmas-it was really beautiful, though not as good weather as it looks like you had, and we weren’t actually able to go in the palace itself since it was closed. But still really neat!
Some of the most beautiful scenery within germany. I am glad that you went to the Marienbrucke first. Gives some good perspective of just how large the castle is.
I was in germany and austria last summer and i got to visit these two castles, and honestly, especially with the fact that i was not able to go inside neuschwanstein, hohenschwangau was a much nicer experience just walking around on the top and looking in the buildings. If you are also visiting salzburg in austria, the fortress hohen salzburg is a very beautiful and very interesting Medieval castle.
The DW History and Culture channel has a fascinating documentary about Neuschwanstein Castle that's well worth the 50 minutes. It's not nearly as old as I thought!
"Do you see what happens when you meet a stranger in the Alps?" If you know, you know. I was at Neuschwanstein back in the late 80s. I wish we'd had the tech back then that we have now. Great footage! My family are all Baltic Germans, so while beautiful, the culture of southern Germany/Bavaria is very unfamiliar to me.
Went here on a high school choir trip. We started singing in the ballroom of Neuchamphstuen. Tour guide wasn’t happy (mostly because of time) but it was amazing.
Went to neuschwanstein castle in the summer with my girlfriend , it still feels so unreal like a dream almost then i look back at the photos and remember it really did happen lol
History fact...the building of Neuschwanstein was the reason why the Kingdom of Bavaria became part of the German Empire. It put the Kingdom on the verge of bancropsy and Prussia/Bismarck took the opportunity and made a deal with Ludwig by taking over the Kingdom´s debts + paying Ludwig who was privately broke as well a huge amount of cash and in return Bavaria joined the Empire.
I’m sorry these videos get relatively little views, they’re really the best part of this channel
I 100% agree.
The alps region has got the be the most beautiful area in the world. Imagine growing up and playing around in a place like that.

Thanks for sharing your trip! Your videos have been a healthy distraction and breath of joy in my life lately.

That region looks so beautiful.
It absolutely is.

If you live in England you should try and see some of the ones in Wales. Wales has the most castles in Europe in proportion to the size of country.
@@archivesoffantasy5560 And knowing Wales size, theres probably like 5 castles there.
@@loganF04003 Ik you’re obviously joking, but there’s 600. 🤯
@@archivesoffantasy5560 I have been to Wales, loved it .

I’ve always been very fascinated with German architecture and castles. Lord is Germany Beautiful!😊

Loved Ludwig's castles back when I went with the German Club from when I was in school maaaaaany years ago. Hope you had fun!
What an amazing video. So beautiful there. My dream vacation. Thanks for bringing us along.
I visited New Swan Stone and Linderhoff almost 40 years ago when I was stationed in Darmstadt

I hope to be able to go on one of these trips with my wife someday
Fascinating the craftsmanship and logistics that goes into building these beautiful castles.
It looked like such a clear and beautiful day. Those views are amazing. Thanks!

Man this was one of the best parts of the trip! Got my bird AND almost passed out from the sheer volume of stairs! lol

The Disney castle that was just that, long before disney. You can tell, someone went for looks over use on it.

Nope. Built by Ludwig II and not even finished before he died.
@@VloggingThroughHistory His lavish spending on the castle was also possibly what got him declared mad, deposed, and killed.

Hahaha. I can't believe you did that to Jonathan... Poor guy. That will live on the internet forever. 😂
Everyone was sleeping. He made the mistake of falling asleep closest to me. :)
Beautiful!
Bavaria has an interesting history.
Isn’t the Neuschwanstien Castle also in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?
Never actually looked into this amazing place before, thanks for this great video. Would be cool if you ever visited Scandinavia
I definitely hope to get there!
half an hour walk, i love you chris
I believe this was the model for Disneyland’s Cinderella Castle.
What a beautiful area. I believe Castle Neuschwanstein was the inspiration for Walt Disney building the castle at Disneyland.
That first castle in your video was Walt Disney's inspiration for Cinderella 's castle in Walt Disney world
Can't wait to watch this!
Been there twice 1983 & 1991
Ok, waffles for breakfast! I'm convinced sir!🙂👍

gorgeous
We've gotten a lot of VTH content today, good lord.
In my personal opinion Hohenschwangau is the cooler castle. It's actually finished, for one, and just more historical overal.
Visit topkapi palace in turkiye and dolmabache palace
Too bad you're not headed to the south of France, i would have bought you a beer 😊
We walked because we didn't want to pay for a horse cart. I recall the throne room empty because they ran out of funds
