Perfect timing, I just played this the other day after remembering some of your old videos on it. If you haven't tried the scenario in a while, the Lincoln 1864 mod you played a while back has been updated extensively with other VP picks that change the available questions quite significantly depending on which you choose. The end also has an interesting snapshot into what their presidencies might have been like. Colfax, Benjamin Butler, Daniel Dickinson, and Hamlin have been added. Butler's ending in particular was fascinating.

It's really weird to me seeing this historic campaign maps, how Oregon, California and Nevada are off on their own without a state that is recognized connecting them to the rest of the union. I realize there were settlers in the places that are not states yet, but it makes me wonder how that worked logistically.

The black population in the North in the 1800s was basically nothing and they liked it that way. Northern criticism of segregation of the South at this point was basically just a carryover of the Civil War and entirely hypocritical.

The states changing color after every step made me think: surely they couldn't have known the effects of things like this in an accurate or timely manner back then. Even modern polling gets stuff wrong all the time. I've never really learned how candidates judged political opinions of the country back then. Did they do polling really slowly by mailing letters? Did they get lots of local newspapers and read them? Did state representatives kind of report up to national Congressmen, and then those congressmen would give advice to their party's candidate? Was it all just guys like Boss Tweed chatting with each other? Would be an interesting topic?

  • @Wyliecoy0te

I think 1888 is an underrated election. If Clevland won, than a Republican would probably have won in 1892. Then that Republican would have been blamed for the 1893 panic and depression that lasted until June 1897.
This possible could have resulted in a William Jennings Bryan win in 1896. Preventing a Spanish American war? Which would mean a more difficult path to the presidency by Teddy Roosevelt. Possibly no annexation of Hawaii.
