The Animation of this "detail" was an animation from CoD 1 iirc And its really astounding how many players of this game are to lazy or too bad to look left and right of their paths 😂
This game is excellent at making players feel certain ways, so I never noticed the soldiers coughing because I was locked into "revenge" and could only see targets to destroy. Chernov's diary later commented that I was bloodthirsty. That really made me think about myself as a person. I also take an occasional gaming break by playing on the Recruit difficulty so I can simply run through every level stabbing everyone in the eyes.
Anyone could have served in the Soviet military at that time. Stalin called for all hands on deck, a woman lost her husband to the Germans and was so pissed off she sold her house and farm to buy an actual military tank and the munitions for it. She started a rag tag band of crew mates and assisted in the war against the Germans.
I was lucky enough to play this game right when it came out and it wad amazing. Amazing campaign, OG zombies, and gore. Glad this game is getting more attention
This is the first CoD I played everyday after school and a good friend came to my house to play together zombies split-screen on PS3. This game made me love the franchise and I have the best memories of it.
It used to feel like they genuinely cared about their game and wanted it to be good as much as we did. Now it just feels soulless, like they do the bare minimum because they’re told to.
Playing WaW when it came out and in its prime was fantastic, 10/10 campaign, multilayer was fantastic as well, and zombies was just the icing on the cake
What makes a great zombies map: -barebones HUD -wonder weapon in mystery box -BO1 zombies AI for training -infinite damage wonder weapon/viable trap strat that’s OP but hard to use (baby gun or dat strat for example)
Let's hope internet trolls won't be offended by the existence of a remaster of this with much greater detail of violence. possible reason why they even made vanguard instead of this.
God i love when games name their tanks accurately, the company, the number, the insignia, its just perfect. (Btw that tank is the T-34, or might be the T-34-85)
No wonder World at War Is still impressive, this added detail Is rare to see on more recent Call of Duty games, although Black Ops: Cold War has it's fair share of details on the campaign as well.
I love how you’re giving this game some love. One of the best video games of all time and one of the most underrated Call of Duty’s ever released hands down
Karasky was one of the last factory's in Stalingrad. The names are hints towards the assembly lines that stopped the Germans advance. They were one of the few companies producing T34s right off the assembly line.
I always loved the tank detail. Makes it feel more inhuman oddly. Even though there's people inside, they aren't named. It's just a factory number on a metal beast
Wow that crewman burning alive trying to get out of the tank was a tiny yet brutal detail that I never noticed. Especially as an lav crewman in the marines that shit scares tf outta me
The little things aren't always consciously noticed or actively talked about, but you do notice them. It's what separated a life like game and an 'artificial' game
Same goes for the mosin nagants you buy today, you can find out what factory and region the rifle came from from the symbols and reciever shape. Alot of ww2 weapons are cool because of how traceable they are.
In 2017 i was in a tank fire in the army training for a deployment. Every time i see a burning tank in a video game it makes me go combat goblin and i love it.
The Wii version removed a lot of the content in WaW. I got to play it for the Wii the first time, played it again on PC, and noticed all of the differences
I know WW2 games have had their era but man we need a real good WW2 shooter again. I think we’re due for a new one featuring other battles or countries. I know we can absolutely do it.
I remember playing this with my dad on the xbox 360 and seeing the rifles in the ground with the helmet on the buttstock on the main menu. So nostalgic
One of the first COD moments that truly left an impression on me was the D-Day landing in Big Red One (i think) where you could put your sights on the NPC's running up the beach and see actual names of people who fought there. The newer CODs lack that element of history.
Just now realizing that zavod is also the name of a map in battlefield 4 and it's weapons factory with tanks. Never made that connection until you said something about the name
Would have been a neat detail if you Went Left you could have seen only a few of the Hardened Wehrmacht Soldiers wearing their GM30/GM38 Gas Masks and the more Newer Troops rushing out, covering their face and coughing like in the orignal game. It would have showed how many New Replacement they were by this point in the war
Holy shit i never actually went left ever outta the hundreds of times ive replayed the compaign. You really have an appreciation for this game and i reapect that
The feeling World at War evokes- that 1945 was just a nonstop murder fest, is so chilling. However, the reality of what occurred in Germany as the Red Tide enveloped the nation on its deadly embrace is so horrific, so beyond the ability of language to describe, that it can never be depicted by any medium. Even if there was direct footage of the atrocities, people wouldn’t believe it. Berlin turned into a cesspit of abomination that not even Satan could imagine. There’s a story a Soviet veteran tells: He woke up to the sound of two children, two German sisters crying out for their mother. They were wandering through the streets. He peaked out the window and told them to flee. He knew what would happen to them if they were caught. They must have been no older than 14. A few minutes later, he heard screams. He looked out. A captain had ordered his company to form two lines, one for each girl. The captain stripped the children. The men all took their turn, making the girls bleed and scream. Eventually, the girls passed out from pain. Once they did, the Soviets shot them down their throats and threw them into a pig pen. The pigs were hungry. By evening, all that was left were the girls skulls, spines, and the rosaries that were around their necks.
This is why I love world at war because it has so many details, respect and is so realistic with the horrors of WW2 especially when Lim's get blown of my the mg42 and grenades
And they had Japan and Germany with real symbols. Real history. Real ass gameplay. This shit was off the wall back then. Still online to this VERY DAY. Honor your WW2 veterans by playing these games. You might find that you’ll start to enjoy history. Especially bc your in it.
I also think the tanks can have their own names, I think in the campaign theres one named Presia, or Sasha, something like that I’m not sure, but I know its there

Millions of women served in the Soviet armed forces though
World at war cod was a very very different time
If i recall the canned food products in WaW don't have any ribbing on the sides. This is a canning process that would be invented in the 60s.
