If you watch this in slo mo you will see that what that Shepard did is mental. He actually pushed the kid down so that the incoming dog will miss it's target, stepped aside as to not collide with the dog, and once the dog missed and went further because of it's momentum, was ready to engage. This was tactical brilliance.
I just watched in slowmo. I'm sorry to sound like a wimp but seeing it in slowmo made me choke up a little bit. That dog was a true hero. Thanks for the suggestion.
Jfc you can see it without slo mo. If you really need to slow it down to see it, there's a problem. But then you also felt the need to break down why the dog did this so you're clearly used to dealing with the brain dead and other stupids.
I can’t explain why, but this video gets me emotional every time I see it. An amazing dog, that gets himself between the kid and the attacking dog, then knows immediately to back off when it’s done its job. You can’t buy loyalty like that.
He did more than just save the kid. He saved the owner of the other dog a lot of trouble. Pretty sure the guy realized it too. And at least the guy had the decency to ask if the kid was okay. He’ll need to be careful with that dog.
While I do give credit to the owner for being right behind the dog i do hope he brought the dog back into his house and than immediately went to his neighbors house to properly apologize. I also noticed how the owner of the German Shepard was calm even though her kid was in danger and that guy was yelling at his dog even after the dog was already chased away from the boy (=he's yelling not to prevent the attack but to show the dog his displeasure) so I think the owner might be partially responsible for his dogs agression. I cant judge though, I don't know them. And for sure that german shepherd probably also saved the other dogs life, depending on where this was. In my country if a dog bites once I'm pretty sure you have to go back to training and if it's still agressive they sadly are killed, I think.
I don’t feel a lot of compassion for the neighbor. They knew their dog was aggressive towards strangers, but still thought it was a good idea to keep it. You can see that the assulter dog came from the house, and as soon as it ran past it’s owner, he ran after it trying to stop it. Now the only thing that I find unclear is; did the assult dog see the German shepherd at attacking the boy and want to save the boy, but came in a way that seemed like an attack in itself or did it see them playing and wanted to join, no fence or lead stopping it, so it ran over to play, but the run was too aggressive, so others reacted as if the dog was attacking or last scenario; the assault dog decided to attack the boy. Now if that is true, they need to check for mental illnesses in the dogs brain (there is a illness in dogs that they get in the brain, that some get where they simply attack for no reason and the only cure, for it is to unfortunately have to put them down) Plus you can not trust a dog that attacks like that as much anymore. As a teenager I got taken by a friend into a not so good neighborhood where a lot of the people fought dogs in a hidden vacant field behind them. They had some pit bulls that would scare the life out of you... But they claimed one of the toughest dogs was a German Shepherd which I saw. It was not scary, but they said it knew how to latch on to the side of the pitbull's face and just dominate it.
Shepherds have a natural protective instinct that I and many others have witnessed personally. They are brave, loyal and gentle creatures... until someone they love is attacked. No better friend, no worse enemy.
Good dog. As a child, I had a 110 lbs, not fat just BIG Golden Retriever who saved me from a neighbor's aggressive dog. It's crazy how quickly a nice, goofy, ball of joy will switch into GET DOWN MR PRESIDENT mode when their boy/girl are threatened. Every kid needs a dog.
My first cat when I was little was like that, too. He was a playful sweetheart (and trickster) with my family, but also very protective. He would discreetly follow me and my siblings around the neighborhood when we took walks or played with neighbor kids, and on several occasions when human or animal was threatening anyone in the family, he instantly turned into a 9-pound Bengal tiger. Beautiful sweet cat, but tough as nails in a fight against cat or dog.

The loyalty of a dog is amazing. Many years ago we were walking our Shelty on the street a few houses from ours. A large Shepard across the street started angrily barking from its driveway. Our Shelty ran back to our driveway in fear and watched from there. When the Shepard started walking down its driveway toward us our Shelty immediately went into protect mode and ran back, in spite of her initial obvious fear, got between us and the Shepard and stood it down. They barked at each other a few seconds until the Shepard relented and shyly walked back to its home. Our Shelty stayed with now until we got home. What a good girl.
The Shepherd was probably just flexing its territory and not looking to attack your dog, or any of your group. Of course there are always exceptions and your Shelty wasn't going to take any chances. So while this was (ultimately) probably a non-threatening situation, your Shelty was there for you whatever come what may!

I have a German Shepherd Retriever Cross. A lovely boy and very gentle and sweet natured. Two dogs ran across the road as we were going for a forest walk and attacked him on either side - totally unprovoked. When I tried to also defend him, one then knocked me over to the ground and stopped me getting up. My brave boy not only defended me and put himself in harms way so I could get up, he then got on top of the most aggressive dog to the point I had then to pull him off as he snapped around its throat. I was really scared he would badly hurt it himself - but he did no damage, just scared it into running off. For weeks afterwards, he was alert when we went on our walks. This whole “this breed is good. This breed is bad” mentality is why people say any pit bull should be put down. It’s all down to how they’re raised. The problem with certain breeds is that they are more powerful than others. A playful accidental bite might be no big deal with one breed, but that same bite from a pit bull or something else with really powerful jaws can be way more devastating. Don’t blame the breeds Don’t own a dog that you would not be able to physical overpower if you had to. Even the best trained dogs have bad days too. Dogs have a lot of the same emotions as humans. Some dogs are just perfect for family while others are not at all. We have a husky and I have seen a lot of videos with huskies. They are aggressive or they destroy the house. Our husky is a cuddle Bear and he doesn’t destroy the house at all and he could easily be next to small children (has been too) he is a gentle giant without the ‘get off my face’ attitude but the ‘what are you doing to my face’ and talking to you in a wonder and complaint.
And that dog came to help the German shepherd when see the German shepherds reaction to the other dog. The long legs dark dog (first one running in the video) was the assaulter.
Now if that is true, they need to check for mental illnesses in the dogs brain (there is a illness in dogs that they get in the brain, that some get where they simply attack for no reason and the only cure, for it is to unfortunately have to put them down)
Plus you can not trust a dog that attacks like that as much anymore.
My own husky was attacked by an off leash dog, where his tail was bitten. Over 4 years ago, and he still reacts to some other dogs. However we keep our dog on lead 100 % of the time. Since they are animals, you can never 100% control them, at the end of the day, nature is their strongest instinct. The good and bad side of it as shown on this video. Hope that helped
The most impressive thing to me is his quick thinking. Pushes kid out of the other dog’s path, back on the offensive immediately, chases the dog to gain distance between the two, quickly scans the area for more threats all in just a few seconds
And goes back to his owner and the kid on his own, staying near by to make sure they're safe. That's a great dog!

@@spicybiscuit88in my world, everyone has to earn their keep. Even the children are required to start doing what they can do when they are old enough. Why should the dog be any different than the rest of the family members. We all have a role to play.
@@geraldinetunstalle6044 I agree with you. My dogs are pretty useless when it comes to home protection. But boy are they there when I need them emotionally. My one dog does not leave my side when I am hurting physically. He wont let anyone near me and gets upset if someone even my husband or other dog gets between me and him. To me that is him earning his keep. Everyone will define how their pet earns their keep. They all have a role to play whether people want to admit it or not.
That dog understood the assignment perfectly. Exemplary behaviour of the goodest of bois.

I tested up too. Terrifying. When I lived in the country I always carried my pistol. Even w a dog there were always a dog loose. There were Rottweilers, pits down our street. I had large dogs but they’d never stand up to that. Thankfully I never had to put one down. Now I carry a taser. I’ll carry a gun too when I’m w my grandchildren

Exactly. By the way it’s a boy not a girl.
@@G10-n7f thanks, I thought it's a girl.

I remember my grandfather had a German Shepherd that did the exact same for me when I was a child. Since then, I've always loved that particular dog breed.
That particular breed is very protective over anyone who is considered family or clan. My student who I tutor has a mix one and was protective. Now when I come around I'm being protected. Love it

That's pretty cool! Did your grandfather train the dog to do that, or was he already trained?
You can tell this dog is well loved by the family.

What a confident doggo, didn't use an ounce more aggression than needed. Didn't get pulled in to a chase or fight and kept close proximity to the kid. What a hero.
That's how we got two stray cats. They got attacked by a neighbours dog and my amstaff (raised by a cat) jumped over the fence and defended the kittens. The female is pretty feral and still doesnʼt let us touch her (it's been 3 months), but it's like our dog is the best thing that ever happened to her. Usually she will keep walking uder the dog. Sit just next to the dog and sleep on the dog. Dog doesnʼt mind. The kitty imprinted like a baby duckling.

I remember when I was walking through the woods behind the house with my German shepherd. A wild boar (serious) came charging at me from across a small brook and as I looked for a tree to get up into my dog immediately got between me and the boar and chased it away. He was on alert trotting and looking around the entire walk back. I love German shepherds.
I'm so glad you were guarded - a charging boar can easily kill you. A German Shepherd will never let you down...don't leave home without her/him!
I had a German shepherd, her name was Jenna, my best friend through childhood. She loved football.. I miss her greatly. Best dogs
So a scary experience, but very proud of my boy defending me, himself and yet not becoming a vicious dog in the process.

Once the shepherd saw the threat was gone he immediately came back to the kid for protection. What a magnificent friend.

@@Left4Plamz Interactions between dogs and human children need to be carefully supervised and controlled for. The dog must have time to accept the child into its group. Something went horribly wrong in your case. I am sorry that you suffered that.
They have the right psychology for the job. Loyal, well tempered but ready to scrap it out if need be. I don't think police forces all over the world would use them in the line of duty if there were a better breed of animal to protect and serve!
Omg the way the German Shepard kept looking back to make sure the dog doesn’t come back as he walks towards the kid , priceless ♥️
He took his role as protector seriously. Love it!
That is an amazing dog. Literally handled the situation with perfection! Did exactly what he needed to do to keep his pack safe! This is why I love dogs and most of all why I love German Shepherds!

@@TH-camsucksdick potentially yes. But both breeds are absolutely loyal pack protectors. The German shepherd can be fierce, but the Belgian Mallinois is the less inbred race so it retains a lot more health and vigor. But both will protect their pack to the death if necessary.
So impressive that a properly trained GSD can stop such a dangerous and tragic event. No question, they are the best dogs in the world. For 13 years our shepherd girl Sadie protected us from coyotes and alerted us about a failing washing machine that could have become a house fire. Totally worth the puppy teething and the shedding. I'll miss her forever.
From play with family to aggressive defense in 1 sec. Lovely to see the awarness of this being. 🧡☯️
I had two German shepherds when I was growing up. I kid you not, you can trust them with your life. Unlike other “aggressive” dogs they are extremely gentle with their family/kids and have the courage to go to any extreme to protect them even at the cost of their own life.
Just to put a twist on that, my grandmas German Shepard bit me when I was 4 and I had to go to hospital
Not all of them. My aunt's Sheppard bit her five year old granddaughter, a couple of nicks no stitches needed but had to keep her away from little ones.
I guess with those two accounts with kids I stand corrected 🤷♂️
This whole “this breed is good. This breed is bad” mentality is why people say any pit bull should be put down.
It’s all down to how they’re raised.
The problem with certain breeds is that they are more powerful than others. A playful accidental bite might be no big deal with one breed, but that same bite from a pit bull or something else with really powerful jaws can be way more devastating.
Don’t blame the breeds
Don’t own a dog that you would not be able to physical overpower if you had to.
Even the best trained dogs have bad days too.
Dogs have a lot of the same emotions as humans.
Which means they can be pushed to anger too
@@shredseeker8420 I disagree, you are not wrong. It’s like saying only humans are bad, only men are bad. Only women are bad, or any one of them are good. It all comes to the difference and personality and situation and everything else and their upbringing and experiences
Of course each breed has its strengths and weaknesses, but it’s not just about the breed but also how they were raised and what environment and situation makes them tick. But not all huskies are like that
That doggie deserves unlimited treats!!!
They are the most amazing dogs. They love and protect your family from anything and anyone.
Hero dog knocked his boy down so the attacking dog couldn't grab him quickly by leg or arm while standing. Then attacked the attacker and continued to stay as interceptor while never straying far from the boy. Once the hero dog sees the Mother coming to grab the child it calms down and checks the other dog again and its surroundings. The situational awareness is incredible.
@loxandbagels Amazing!
That kind of quick thinking wouldn't even be done by an adult human. Even though we're smarter than dogs, their brains are tuned into protection mode like a switch.

I had a golden retriever as a young teen. Nicest, most mild mannered dog ever. Next door got a ,chow, a vicious dog. Mean as can be. I can still see every minute in my mind 45 years later. The chow bit me on the ankle , tore my pants, but my docile golden retriever beat the hell out of that dog.

Golden retrievers can be very aggressive when they want to be. They’ve saved many owners lives. I remember one story where a man was accosted by a man with a gun as he was walking upstairs to his apartment. The golden was inside. The man was instructed to enter his house. The dog sensed the danger and quietly came around the corner and attacked the man with the gun.
There is no dog in the world like a German shepherd. They protect their children fiercely. I grew up with 2 of them.
