      It's the world's biggest beaver dam. Nobody remembers that there's a road there, and the culverts have been backed up for decades.
      No idiots with excavators have dared try to clear them.

    I’ve never had reason to look at a map of that area of the world. I hadn’t realised that Niagara Falls were so close to “suburbia”. I always imagined that they were somewhere quite remote. You learn something every day.

    • @russs7574
      @russs7574 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not even suburbia...between Niagara Falls NY and ONT, you've got maybe 125,000 in population. They are both legit cities.

    • @amstrad00

      I just got this video recommended by TH-cam, and I was also surprised to learn that the falls are in an urban area. I guess that all photos I've seen were taken from an angle that excludes the buildings (or were old photos from when the falls actually were remote).

I was amazed at the noise of the falls, which we heard a few miles away. We walked around the area by the ferris wheel and then approached the falls. Actually, the flow over the falls is governed far less by rain over Lake Erie than by the amount being taken by the two mammoth hydroelectric and pumped storage facilities located below the falls on both the American and Canadian sides. Together they can generate 4.4 gigawatts of hydroelectric power. The inlets are located a few hundred yards above the falls on both sides of the river. Usually, the river flow is greatly reduced late at night; part of the flow goes through the turbines below the falls and part is pumped (using power from the hydroelectric turbines) into enormous pumped storage reservoirs raised above river level and located some distance away from the river banks above the falls. Water is released from the pumped storage facilities through the hydroelectric turbines to meet peak power demand during the day while allowing the falls to retain their scenic beauty.

    Minor correction: The Horseshoe falls is strictly the section of falls on the Canadian side of the river, the bit right in front of post 10 when he's looking out over the falls is just called the American Falls, which has a slight gap at the edge that forms a second set of falls called the Bridal Veil Falls, followed by the much larger gap of Goat Island and then the Canadian Horseshow Falls.

    I always assumed that Niagara Falls was away from built up areas. It's a little disappointing to see it's not the natural area that all of the photos depict it as from the front. I felt the same way when I saw how close Cairo City is to the pyramids at Giza.

    You're in NY?! If you get a chance to visit ithaca, there are so many beautiful waterways and naturewalk areas to visit, Taughannok is pretty and walking to the base is beautiful but misty as can be and is 3 stories taller than Niagara Falls (I learned this a few weeks ago, still surprised so sharing lol). Have a great adventure whatever you're up to! 🙂

      A number of the state parks in the WNY area have waterfalls. Personally I like Letchworth for it's three separate sections of waterfall and massive cliff faces that form a canyon along a portion of the Genesee River.

    I have been to New York several times, unfortunately I never made it to Niagara Falls, but night time in New York is spectacular even with the rain. Thanks for the great videos, I think I heard you said this one was last year, but so awesome. Thanks post

    Such drain delight. I can’t help but smile. When the weather warms in the spring, maybe you can do a drain tour down the coast, or around NE.
