This was a great video! Right now I’m studying mechanical engineering, and plan to use my degree to design prosthetics and orthotics. I had considered going on to be a prosthetist, but I think this confirmed that I’ll be happier sticking with the engineering side of things. Thanks to both of you for putting this together!
How is that path going for you? I’m considering the same thing. I’m also interested in the robotics(bionics?) side of it as well. I haven’t decided to go to school yet, but this really feels like my path. Any incites?
this really helped a lot. i graduate this year from high school and i was looking into being a prosthetists and making prosthetists for people in need. this really helped me answer a few questions about the career. im hooked!
I hope you guys enjoy this Day in the Life of a Orthotist/Prosthetist video. Definitely a great career option and an option I knew nothing about when I was in school. Thank you for letting me see a look into your profession! I learned a lot about this career and am definitely considering it for my future! Thank you again.
Thank you soo much for this video Dr. Antonio! It was so informative and so happy he stated the realistic salary expectation for this field something that is important when considering investing in grad school this is the only video I found that discussed it!
just started watching after writing up 1000 words on muscular dystrophy for my science assignment. work like no-one else so you can live like no one else.
Dr Webb, I'm Greg and I'm having my first cervical spine surgery on my C 4, 5 & 6 tomorrow morning, Friday, May 29, 2020. I've had 2 previous surgeries on my lumbar area, at age 17 I had my laminectomy on L5-S1 and at age 45 I had same procedure on L4-L5. Now at age 61 I'm having my first cervical spine surgery procedure discectomy/ fusion to stop the pain and numbness of mainly my right arm but it will also give me back my strength in both arms and hands and I can't wait! But also, my right leg has been giving me huge amounts of pain and I'll probably end up having both my L4, 5 & S1 needing discectomies and with fusions to those discs also. The sad part is that I'm on disability income and can hardly afford Even the minimal amount of money! But I need to go back to work so I can make more money but I have a legal problem from the 80's that needs expungement before I can even get a job that will make me the money I used to in the mortgage industry. I thank you for all your great videos as I missed my calling of being a surgeon, exploratory was that goal but at 61 now, that pipe dream has sailed year's ago! Thanks again Doc, you are a great man! Sincerely, Greg J PS - my first lumbar surgery was done by an orthopedic surgeon and my 2nd was done by a neurosurgeon and to be honest? They both did a great job as they've lasted for decades till my next surgery, which is after my cervical spine surgery tomorrow morning. And I am extremely nervous! I pray that it will go great!
Hello, I'm finishing my bachelor degree in biomedical mechanical engineering in canada. I really want to do artificial limb design and at first i thought i was in the right program. But now after viewing your video, it looks like a prosthetic carreer is more suitable for me, my question is, can you get in a master program in prosthetic with a bachelor in biomedical mechanical engineering ?
I'm currently in school for PT, but I'm very interested in prosthetics. Is there a way to combine a prosthetics degree and a PT degree? They often work together, so would I be more valuable/higher paid if I could do both?
I don't think that people get both degrees because once is a doctorate level and the other is a master's program, but maybe there is a way of working in a clinic where there is a lot of collaboration between the fields. (This is for the United States, not sure if other countries differ).
Really? Insurance companies say things like this? I'm intrigued in the cpo field and it's something I was looking into. Could you tell me more about it. Pros and cons I guess.
@@deondrej1602 I'm in the field tons of pros, only cons I cab think of is there's alot of materials we use that are toxic, but just gotta have proper training and equipment 😊
Hello sir.. I'm a BPO student in SV NIRTAR india. I just pass out my final exam waiting for internship. I have 6 month clinical experience in part time. I want to join your clinic..
Your patients on the most part must be happy. Do you ever get cursed at by a patient that's taking a limb lost pretty hard? Like, what are you supposed to do then?
Mostly just try to be supportive, apparently it does happen and if they continue to be a problem or even abusive we recommend they go to our competition 😁
You can return to school for a master degree. If you are in the states or want to attend school in the states you can check out NCOPE online for a list of schools. I know a couple people who got both PT and P&O degrees and they are awesome! Some of the best assets to the field.

Thanks for sharing this... so many different fields in healthcare... some of them I am just now learning about.. Great video as usual.

It's an awesome career, I was hired despite no relevant knowledge or experience, and it's been going well

What are the odds I can do this without a formal education?
Thank you for letting me see a look into your profession! I learned a lot about this career and am definitely considering it for my future! Thank you again.
This is a really cool field, and this was a very well done video!
Thx bro!
Antonio J. Webb, M.D. Np, keep killing it! 💪

It's awesome that you are highlighting lesser known occupations. You're doing great work!
Super interesting to see the different processes and get a look behind the scenes!

I’m a DPT so I work with lots of these guys
Awesome!

Great video. Both motivating and inspirational.
Thank you for watching!
Thank you so much for sharing this behind-the-scenes view! It was extremely helpful!
Very cool information.. great video as always Dr. Webb !
Wow thanks for the video! Definitely interested in this field for a career as i am currently a biomed engineering major!
Excellent exposure & information about the field.
Great video!❤️
Thanks!

Yes you can. At a lot of schools they study list that as one of the bachelor degrees that prospective students have.
Great info. Good job Jesse 😀
Thanks, Lisa!
Can I ask what kind of cast saw that you use? I’m liking that tool you are using!
Interesting. Thank you
Thanks Michelle!
Intramedullary limb lengthening rods is applicable for above 25 yrs or not
Please reply 🙏🙏

Really cool !!!
Then the insurance company says. Uh, we need our money back from 4 years ago. I’m a CPO too. Great interview.

Where were the osseointegrated prosthetics? Maybe next time.
They showed a guy in the beginning walking with an osseointegrated leg. Osseointegration isn't popular in the states yet but I think it should be!

Can a PT get a Master degree of Orthotist and prosthetist science or its another bachelor degree

do you need to take physics 2 or just physics 1 for pre-req
Some programs require only Physics 1 and its corresponding lab, while others require both Physics 1 & 2. It depends on the school
I've been in the silicone prosthetics for over 12 years and you're not showing the real deal
What’s the real deal ?
More than 1 way to get er done
You make plastic limbs ....we make life like jewelry!
