where do you get those connectors and how long can you run on that 54 ah battery , i have a 30 lb thrust on a 10 ft one man boat and i don't know what size battery i need because i'll fish most of the day probably 8 - 10 hrs but my boat and all probably isn't as heavy as a kayak
Thanks padifish! I'll have another video coming out in a few days with more details which may help answer your question. 😊👍 th-cam.com/video/Z5sk_1T_An8/w-d-xo.html
Hard to say... My Watersnake is a 34lb thrust unit and I referenced the following chart which showed me to use 10awg for my setup ( bit.ly/47ANFsK ) and I have not had any issues at all. I would follow their recommendations especially if your Watersnake is a larger unit .😊👍
Awesome video thanks for sharing. I have previously had my own setup using the 880 esc with a normal deep cycle led acid battery it worked good but wanted to lighten my load so i bought a lithium . When i hooked my set up with the lithium all i heard was neeos coming from my trolling motor. Is the something i need t9 do so the esc will run on the lithium battery. Again thanks for all the videos they are awsome. I will be subscribing and wathing more.
I'm curious on why using the 60amp circuit breaker. Are you running 6awg wire? Would you think a 30 or 40amp breaker be a good choice? I'm thinking of adding one after seeing your video. Thanks
I'm sorry... The link I provided was incorrect and should have been for a 50 amp circuit breaker. I'm running 10awg wire. The following link is a good reference web page to help assist you in determining what size breaker to use: minnkota.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/support/trolling-motor-installation-guides/trolling-motor-wiring-and-battery-guide
This may seem a dumb question, i am a newbie to using a kayak for fishing. But i just decided to add a troling motr, being that my kayak is only paddle driven. Does that controller also control the direction of the trolling motor?
Hi mariolaureano8154! As the great Carl Sagan stated in his writings "There is no such thing as a dumb question" but sadly "No" the controller does not do steering. Thanks for dropping by to check out the video and leaving a comment. 😊👍
Wow - it took me quite a while to find the file. I thought the file was lost forever. Anyway the stl file link has been added to the videos description. Enjoy! 😊👍
How much would your say this increases your battery life/efficiency/range while out on the water? Ive got a 60ah lithium battery and Im worried about range for being out on the water all day.
Do you store this in the rear storage well or behind the seat. If so, do you also have room for a crate or cooler in addition to this box? I am preparing to build one for an 11' kayak that doesn't have a huge compartment back there. I have a 50ampHr battery and may have to convert a crate to become the battery box.
Hi Scott! My kayak is only 10 feet long so I totally get your question. I mount my battery box to a shelf I made that extends behind my seat. This leaves my rear compartment area open for a crate or cooler. I hope to have a video detailing my setup a bit better in the future but for now the following video is all I have at the moment showing where I have placed my battery box if you would like to check it out. th-cam.com/video/LaoVmbgRW2g/w-d-xo.html
Nice work! I am thinking about building a similar design, although I'm torn between using a standard hobby RC transmitter vs a bluetooth module on Arduino. I've got a motor driver for Arduino here already, plus I want to eventually do differential thrust across multiple motors. I'm not sure if I could pull that off with off-the-shelf RC components. I know I could do it with bluetooth though. Consider me subscribed!
Have you programmed your 880 using the hobbywing program card? I don't limit the max throttle and have not experienced any overheating issues. I do use the fan and have my electronics enclosure vented to aid in cooling.
Did you have to program it or did you use the factory default settings? I’ve send some guys using a programming box to change the settings…just curious if you did that ? Great video and very helpful!!
Hi Tom! Thanks! Initially I used it with the default settings of the Hobbywing ESC but wanted maximum performance to the trolling motor so I purchased the programmer and tweaked it to my liking. Not necessary but I highly recommend the programmer. 😊👍amzn.to/3LqO8F9
Thanks for the quick reply :-) can you tell me where you purchased the wired controller with the wheel knob and a cable that you use to connect it? Also, where on the ESC, do you plug-in the RC receiver/cable that you use for the wired remote? I basically plan to copy your set up but want to make sure I am doing it correctly :-) I am not seeing any of those parts were laying in your description for your kit page. Thanks for all your guidance!
I haven't had any overheating issues but I did eventually design and 3d print a vented cover for that box which I am now using. Here is the link to the file if you're interested: www.thingiverse.com/thing:5925100
Dakota is a giant rip off. I have a Seikon Trolling motor battery that was $200 and 100ah. It can pull some serious amps well above my 55lb trolling motor.

Your videos are so helpful and informative, I’ve learned so much from them. Love them and keep them coming please. Thx
I'm glad you liked the videos and thank you for watching as I will try to keep them coming! 😊👍
Nice work.
Thank you! Cheers! 😊👍
Another great one!!

Could you explain how you connected the Rc remote to 880 esc. I love this design.

Is this esc controller have the ability to have a display installed to show the 0-100 power pull as some pwm controllers come with?
Hi eddiechiu9926! Sadly I don't believe its possible with this esc. Thank you for dropping by to check out the video and leaving a comment! 😊👍
Very helpful, thank you.
You're welcome! Glad the info was helpful! 😊👍
For the Watersnake, the manual recommends 6AWG (1-3 Metres), 4AWG ( 3-5 Metres). Will the 10AWG handle it?

@@FFHTV Ah ok, yours is the 34 lb version.
Yes 😊👍
Where’d you get the controller for the white trolling motor?
Hi Carlos! Check the video description for links to what was shown in the video.

How does the esc take the power?
How long dose it last trolling for fish

Thanks. I'm running 10awg as well. I guess I should get the 50amp too.
I agree 😊👍

Wow - it took me quite a while to find the file. I thought the file was lost forever. Anyway the stl file link has been added to the videos description. Enjoy! 😊👍
Do the computer components come with the wires needed or is that separate?
How did you attach the fan to the ESC? I don’t see any screw holes around the heat sink.
The slots on the esc heat sink allows you to self tap the fan screws.

Cool idea. I don't know much about arduinos but sounds like it would be an interesting build. Thanks for watching! 😊👍
I have a quickrun 880 and its overheating on my setup ? Did you limit the max throttle ? I use a old motor maybe its too old...
