  • with David Hyman, professional tour guide. Mount Tabor is possibly the most famous mountain in Israel. Together with Carmel and Hermon, Tabor is a name used all over the world. In Hebrew, we use the soft B sound and it is pronounced Har ( Mountain) Tavor. My plan was t visit the 100-year-old basilica that stands on top of the mountain, but due to covid, the owners have not reopened the shrine for visitors. So I decided to walk the circular path around the summit and film this video for you. Tabor has so much history and biblical references so I could easily record a full video without visiting the basilica. We will see the massive fortifications from the 12h century CE when a large fortress was built on the summit and the mountain played a key role during the struggles and battles between the crusader kingdom and the Ayoubi armies of Saladin. We will see a small cave that was dedicated by the Greek Orthodox church to commemorate the meeting place of Abraham and Malkitzedek ( Genesis 14). From the top, we can expand our vu=iews in all directions, to Nazareth, Galilee, Golan, Gilead, Jezreel valley and Gilboa. I will share the story from the book of Judges, when Deborah and Barak when to war against the Canaanites and summoned the troops to meet on Mount Tabor. And my greatest surprise and I ope yours to, was that I managed to reach the Basilica of Transfiguration from the Eastern side, and could sit on ancient steps and contemplate on the moment of transfiguration.

    David, because of the closure, we have had from you a more comprehensive look at this Mount than I remember from the spring tour of 2015. You have brought this site to life! Thank you very much!

I may have missed a couple of your videos, but I look forward to them and they enrich my understanding of Biblical days.🙏🏻

    Great video! I like how you go in the small spaces to to show us inside. I would like to ask: what is the small circular structure with a dome roof we see at 4:16?

    • @IsraelwithDavidHyman
      @IsraelwithDavidHyman  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and for your comments. The small structure is the roof of the Chappell of Malchitzedek, believed by tge Greek Orthodox to be the place Malchitzedek met with Abraham (Genesis 14)

    Hi, David
    Another fantastic tour.
    I have a request. Masada. The Romans had to build a ramp up that mountainside and batter their way in.
    But no one shows the entrance which King Herod, his family, his guests, servants, and guards used. Are you able to go there?

    • @IsraelwithDavidHyman
      @IsraelwithDavidHyman  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are correct, Herod and his guest entrerd via the "snake path gate " it's a decorated entrance on the East side of the mountain. All the visitors who enter via the cable car and the snake path, use this original gate.

      @@IsraelwithDavidHyman
      Thank you, David. Have you or tourists been inside the mountain?
      Also, with as small as the mountain is and as determined as the Romans were, why were they not able to find the entrance during the 2-year seige?
