I awoke this morning a drew a cup of cold clean water, turned on my kitchen light and used the bathroom in my own home. I am rich indeed!
We are blessed beyond measure in our great Country. We need only to view life to the abundance we are given! Thank you for that reminder, Emmy. You and Paul do an amazing job helping and encouraging all of us on our frugal journey. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! ❤️

Years ago I was a teller. I was so surprised to see folks who had 100,000 - 200,000 in their account but didn’t “look” wealthy but then some women would come in dripping in jewelry, designer purses, beautiful clothes and had maybe $200. The old saying don’t judge a book by its cover.

Me too...yes...I paid off my car 18 months early and will never have another car payment if I can help it. When you pay off your car you also can lower the cost of car insurance too. 👍

Brava Sheila! I've been trying to eke my 15-year old car along until more cars become available and the crazy prices calm down. Alas, a major system failed and I had to replace it this month. Searched long and hard and paid cash for a 5-year old (NEW) car with 55,000 miles. Such a blessing not to use credit to buy it. Now I'll start saving again for 10 years from now when this car wears out.

I'd rather have a $20 dollar purse with $300 in it than a $300 dollar purse with $20 in it. I've always been a very simple person. I admit that I used to envy people who drove nice cars and I used to compare myself to them but I've learned to appreciate the things I have. I've learned that appearances can be deceiving and material things don't always equal happiness.

Hi Emmy and Paul. Your intros are always so special. Very well said. We never felt it necessary to be anyone other than who we are. You made me smile when you were talking about your pots and pans. We have our original set of stainless steel pots and pans we bought when we were first married almost 43 years ago from Montgomery Ward. They still look nice and still work great. We have purchased a few additional non-stick frying pans over the years because we needed extras. Nice memories. Enjoy your week 🥰🥰🥰

Yes, I grew up in the 50's and you are right on. To me, it seems like everyone wants to live like a star. I live like a pauper and always have for three reasons, don't care about who I might impress, spend my money on experiences - travel, backpacking etc and I am or we are truly $12,000 a year early retired couple. Thanks for saying be great with who you are. You are truly positive and encouraging. The cake looks yummy.

I was a child of parents that both grew up as poor as church mice during the Great Depression. My father was on his own at age 13 following the death of his 36 year old mother. His alcoholic father could not feed all 7 kids so the 3 oldest kids which my father was one of them were set free to make their way in the world. Through the kindness of the Amish community they gave my father farm work until he turned 17 and joined the Navy. My mother who was a child of two immigrant Italian parents had to quit HS and go to work in a factory to help support her own family as well as extended family that would have starved without my mother's help. Despite their poor start in life they managed to rise out of poverty with hard work, built a small home, and made sure my sister and I always had enough and nutritious food to eat, decent clothes and shoes, and the best education they could afford to give us including college. Having been raised by the parents I had I inherited their beliefs that if you have enough to eat, clean decent clothes on your back and shoes on you feet, a roof over your head and a warm bed to sleep in and work that provides enough income to keep that simple lifestyle going and a little extra to help someone in need then you are truly wealthy.

I've made many mistakes in my life, but never this one! This is a little off topic, but wanted to share a tip with you. After I squeeze the juice from a lemon half, I cut it in quarters and freeze the pieces in a ziplock snack bag. About once every week or two, I'll take out one of the frozen pieces and drop it in my garage disposal. and then run it. It helps clean out the blades and leaves a nice fresh scent behind.

Great points, Emmy!! Our friends buy two new cars every couple of years. My partner and I drive 20 year old Toyotas and have had no car payments for years! Both of our cars have over 200,000 miles on them but never need repairs!! Our friends with the new cars are so deeply in debt that their whole life is spent worrying about finances. On the face of it, we seem to the outside world, that we are 'poor' and they seem 'rich'. But what is the real story??

You're so right Emmy in just being who you really are - Me and my partner have always been this way and sometimes the 'wrong' people have made critical or disparaging remarks because we choose not to buy into what they have or how they think we should look, but we've learnt that in the long term just being your true self will attract the right kind of people into your lives who will like/love you just the way you are ❤

Wow! I liked this video, my parents never owned a credit card. They always paid in cash. I do like the convenience of credit cards, but I pay the credit card off every month. It also helps to reduce the chances of identity theft. I only use my credit card when buying on line or gas, because if you use your debt card, thieves have access to your money. With a credit card you can challenge the charge, your money is safer. 😊😍 Great video.

That cake looks so yummy. I make a similar cake...
    Mine is:
Devils Food mix (cooked as instructed)
Then I push maraschino cherries into the cake about 2 inches apart.
Then I make chocolate pudding and pour it into the holes the cherries made...let it cool a bit..(I call it chocolate covered cherries)
Then I top it with whipped topping...
It is so rich and delicious.

I well remember the days before credit cards as I am 64. I won’t have one and do wish they were called ‘debt’ cards, which in essence is what they are. I like my banking to be in credit. This is positive. However to load a credit card with £ £ or $ $ of debt is a very negative thing. We should educate children in school not to accumulate debt. Cash is King! Love to you both. Jane x

Something I do when I buy something on credit is always get it where if paid in full within 12 months..no interest due. For me it's like lay away but I get the item right away. And I always have it paid off early.
New HVAC system, 10k paid off in less than 12 months.
New kitchen appliances...about 3k paid off in less than 12 months
New flooring 4k paid off in less than 12 months
New furniture 1700.00 paid off in less than 12 months....
    Zero interest paid..
Yes I could have paid cash for most of that but I choose not to tap into my saving.
I also have about 10 credit cards and I have zero balance on all of them. Its nice to have them just in case of an emergency...
I have not always been so mindful of my money...but I have learned.

I love your channel! Thanks for all of your helpful tips. My family makes a version of this cake. We call it Strawberry Pop Cake. The differences are that we also add 1 cup of strawberry soda, like Fanta (or you can even use Sprite if you wish), to the jello mixture & then for the icing we use Cool Whip instead of the heavy cream & no powdered sugar. It’s my favorite cake! Perfect for hot summer days.

Jaguar's are a fun car to drive. If you still have a dream to drive that car there is a frugal option. A fun date day or weekend adventure would be rent a Jaguar for the day or weekend and do your adventures while driving the rental car. A rather expensive car rental but more frugal then buying and maintaining a Jaguar. Jaguar's are the big brother of the Fiat. It's also a f.i.a.t. car. You could also have a bucket list entry of renting all the luxury cars in your dreams.

If someone asked if I were wealthy, I would tell the person, that was a rude question, I find wealth to be many faceted, an example I create wealth on a very small income, I save for things that I would like to own, do I buy them to inflate my ego. I buy for comfort, example one way is that I only buy my clothing at Talbots, the clothing has a good ten years of wear, and because I never have to try anything on, I do shop at 40 - 50% off, a few things I get at Belk, and land's End , as for food I only buy Non GMO organic, because, I have severe food allergies, I don't eat desserts outside of fruit, no meat, no dairy, no nuts, no grain, no chocolate etc. I do a similar to Marie Condo, only clothes enough to wear them all, twice a year I take inventory, I remove what is not wearable, and only replace what I need. instead of over spending, I set aside $1200.00 a year to cover all needs once that amount is gone there is nothing left for the year or I might take $15. from groceries to build it back up. Clothing came from $300 in gift cards this year, and a new computer was $450.00, the kitchen appliances went . I replaced my stove$500, and $250 went for broken small appliances/pans/knives/electric water pot and I took $50 from various envelopes to refill the envelope. My next goal is to reduce my food bill, I stopped buying Kevita Kombucha and probiotic drinks, i am drinking water, and Luzianne Iced Tea, I make a light sweetened tea with an organic sugar syrup, 1 1/2 cups sugar to 2 cups water heat till dissolved store in a ball jar in the fridge, use a tablespoon per half pint ball jar and one wedge of lemon the tea is just sweet enough, and it's the only sugar except natural fruit I get all day. this summer my plan is to cut groceries including cat food etc, and house hold goods to $170.00 from $300.00 a month. I need to save for my first trip back to CT. in 20 years my almost son Jon is getting Married, and I want to see friends. I will have a vet bill, a taxi bill both ways a flight, an AirBnB and Uber charges I estimate ($2000)

The problem is for great pans it costs hundreds and if you don’t have that money should you buy on credit or should you buy what you can afford to pay cash for. In this case you know it will take a year or more to save up for the nice pans to pay cash. What should you do?

I was gifted a cheap cheap set of cookware when we were married. Like a $25 set from Walmart. Everything started peeling and it was not healthy to cook in. I used the spoons and utensils FOREVER! I started researching quality. I was given a few freebies over the years but decided to donate those since I didn’t use them much. I got a vintage set of le cruset pots with lids along with another off brand enameled cast iron large pot. They will last forever and I love that I got them used. I’ve never purchased a set of pots and pans other than these. I did just order a hexclad frying pan with lid. A bit pricey but I was researching quality. So far we love it. That’s it. I have 5 pots and pans total. They cook everything we need.

Great piece of living reality. An interesting aside to this. In a biography of the Joseph Kennedy dynastic family I read one of the quotes Joe, the father, preached to his children. It was "It's not who you are that matters. It's who people think you are". Sadly, marketing has used that pronouncement to persuade us to believe this piece of nonsense. I guess you can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool yourself.

    True wealth whispers.
The rich/wealthy rarely ,if ever, flaunt it.
The rich/wealthy do not stay part of the1% by making idiotic, wasteful purchases .be financially reckless.
Case in point.my idol, rap superstar eminem.went from dead broke line cook at gilberts lodge, menial labor ,minimum wage jobs to amass a $230 million.dollar net worth.he still hates spending money.
Why? He grew up financially insecure, extreme poverty.so,he is trying to make good financial decisions.he will ask his manager if he can afford something as small as a bottle of pop.he makes no money moves until he is certain he can afford to.he focuses on his 4 walls

I was very disturbed to hear this past month on a financial radio show that there are now 50 yr home mortgages and 8+ yrs new automobile loans.
What has our society come to that we agree to be indebted to a bank/loan for 50 yrs???
