  • You will find the Mangrove snappers on ledges and artificial reefs. You can find them from the Mangroves to over 100' of water. fishhuge.com #fishhuge #fishhugecharters #mangrovesnapper

    Man, literally your video is the best on the topic. Those big budget guys fishing a bridge with shrimp.. SMH, you got it right. Thanks for the advice.

    How are you fishing 100’ of water with only 1/8 ounce of weight? Seems like the current drift would send your bait way off of the structure.

      That is true when the current picks up we use a heavier weight. I go up to 3/8 ounce if that does not work I will move up to half ounce. I make my own jigs so the hooks I use are a little bigger than a normal 8th ounce jig. Also, the way I hook the Fish makes it swim downward, depending on size of the bait. I am using 20 pound braid for mainline and 17 pound floral carbon for my leader. That also helps the lighter jig head get down. I am using a 3000 size spinning reel as well. Very small set set up.

      I am also chumming these fish up off of the bottom sometimes they will hit my flatline off of the surface and 108 feet of water.

    That looks great, but I'm not too comfy being out there by myself in the dark. My wife would be calling the USCG. So what about daytime fishing? Does one have to downsize the lines and hooks even more? Last 3-5 weeks it's been difficult getting any bites offshore Tampa Bay.

      you want to reduce your line size to about 15 pounds. I would not go higher than 20 pounds. It is harder to reel in the bigger ones, but you’ll get a lot more bites. Max out the leader so that you have a better chance of getting them in. if you are in shallower water, free lining chunks of bait down with the chum works really well also.

    WHY DOES TEST MATTER, I GOT MAYBE 40 OR 50 TEST, BUT WITH A 40 LB MONO LEADER ABOUT 10 FEET, TEST SHOULDN'T MATTER

    • @fishhuge
      @fishhuge  หลายเดือนก่อน

      It changes how the bait is presented. Also the larger fish are line shy. They see the line. I catch most of my larger mangrove snapper on 17 pound test. You can catch him with larger pound test just not as many. And I like to use florocarbin fishing line

      @@fishhuge LONGER MONO LEADER DOESN'T HAVE THE FISH LOOKING AT TEST

    • @fishhuge
      @fishhuge  หลายเดือนก่อน

      @leelunk8235 that’s how I catch them I have another video coming out soon. We’re not using anything bigger than 30 pound test. Most of the fish we catch are on 17 pound test we caught so many mangroves over 18 inches. We were letting go 16 inch mangrove snappers.

      @leelunk8235 also I have other people on the boat using 40 pound test and they are not catching nowhere as many fish as I am using 17. 20 pound test is also good. They usually end up switching over to the same size line I’m using.
