Enjoyed the video as always man! Great info! Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching, John.
Never thought to keep one, now I got learn how to clean them. Thanks for the tips! Here in SE Florida they are pretty much everywhere nearshore.
They are easy to clean, Erik. Thanks for watching!
Super easy to clean! Cut from the anus back to the tail and forward to the eye. Pull the skin away from the fish and flip over and repeat.
Nothing to it.
Heard of guys catching trigger fish all the way up here in Nova Scotia Canada. Would love to catch one but it’s definitely uncommon. Warming ocean temperatures are pushing a lot of tropical fish towards our coasts lately though.
They are great tasting fish. Maybe one day it will happen.
@@NavarreKayakFishing I’m hoping! Thanks for the tips I’m definitely going to be trying for them and see what happens.
Do you think trigger fish could be caught on a sabiki rig with or without bait?
Both. We have caught them on Sabikis on accident.
@@NavarreKayakFishing awesome. I’m hoping to catch them by accident while targeting mackerel and pollock. Sometimes I’ll throw a little bait on and see what else will bite too.
Great info and video! I’m always learning something new from you guys! Thanks!
Thanks for watching!
Hi pls can you tell me how to avoid them when you are trying to get another fish ?? thks
Bait and switch in reverse. Toss chum the opposite direction that you plan to fish. Drop bait into strike zone. Easy day.
What is a decent saltwater spinning reel that has a flat handle? I am missing. Both hands, so use prosthetics and the reel you are highlighting here won't work for me? Thanks, love your videos.
Have you considered 3D printing an adapter for the handle?
Odd, I did something similar today because I kept missing them on last years snapper rigs I had with me. I put on a size 1 or 2 circle and didn't miss another bite. I caught some smalls but got my keeper and had a blast.
The smaller hook is far more productive. They are professional bait stealers.
Especially when they can't get the hook in their mouth. I should have thought about it sooner but I was just used to them cleaning my hooks for me lol.
I hope that you get that scamp next time!
Brian, have you found anymore Scamp?
@@NavarreKayakFishing No they seem to be gone. I was replying to Towsend and a conversation that we had on the beach yesterday, you will have to ask him about that detail.
Definitely need a way to target the bigger ones. Had to go through 30 to get one keeper last year. Most are 12-14 3/4”
That rig will catch plenty of big Triggerfish. You just have to know how to avoid the little ones.
I had fresh trigger for dinner, great idea Nick on the rig, I'll have to try it. Maybe you need a line cutterz ring since you miss place the snips. Ty would probably send you one, haha.
Ha! I lost them in my pocket lol. My memory is so bad these days I could lose a ring on my hand haha
Thanks. I wonder if just pinching a small split shot next to the hook will suffice until I find those.
Let me know how the split shot works in the mean time!
Hey would you be interested in a king/spanish mackerel trolling video? Really want to get on them this summer
Hey, Patrick. We will make a new video about it once the weather warms up a bit around here. The King’s usually show up in good numbers around the second week of May.
Great video as usual. Do you have to be in the reef area off Navarre beach or anywhere will do as long as you chum?
You’re going to need to be over some kind of structure. Just about every piece of structure off of the beach (near Pensacola and Destin) is loaded with these guys.
How deep are the triggerfish usually found in? Approx how far from shore?
It depends on the location. But here on the Pensacola area we can catch them in the bay. In this video we were on 65’ of water and close to two miles off of the beach.
Just found ya today. Love to watch the locals
Thanks for watching, Danny.
All I catch in my area is small little trout
With those small hooks all you will catch is grunts 😂
Ha!
Cool man, thanks
You’re welcome, sir.
Secret is out!!!
You better not
One lousy triggerfish. They are so plentiful they are actually a nuisance. Especially when you are trying to target black snapper. Anyone that has a problem catching them should just give up fishing. If it wasn't for the small almaco's on the reefs there would be no point in going fishing.
Ya, it’s hard to target anything without those things causing problems. Super annoying!

Who's ready to go catch a Triggerfish?
Waiting on you...lol
