    My mother and I would go antiquing...she passed away unexpectedly last year...I've been looking for the shop I bought an old moravinsn stroop waffle press in with her many years ago and knew it was near lititz ...my fiance and I have been looking diligently ...because of this video my friend you helped me find it bravo!!! It's Schaferstown!!! Right at that main intersection where you go right to Cocalico and Lebanon. This is awesome!!!

    My mom's ancestors on her maternal line founded both Schaefferstown and Myerstown. Her line moved to Illinois. Mom ended up moving back to Pennsylvania when she married my dad during WWII. They both served in Persia.
    I always enjoyed tooling along 501. Thanks!

    Cliff thanks for bringing back a lot of memories. I have travel up and down Rt 501 many times over the past 70 years by myself and other family members. In Lititz seeing the Wilbur Chocolate Co building reminded me of my Great Aunt that was Mr Wilbur's Private Sec till she had to retire at age 72 because her husband got sick. Family trips up to our family Hunting Camp , when I was a kid she would bring boxes of chocolates bars.

    Lititz was voted "the Coolest Small Town in America" by Budget Travel Magazine in 2013. We've been clinging to that ever since. So that's the fact you were probably thinking of.

    • @bradtipton986
      @bradtipton986 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Lititz was also designated one of the best small towns to live in by a different publication. Based on activities, dining, points of interest, low crime and other factors.

    • @Ranarith
      @Ranarith 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bradtipton986 not surprising. there's a few publications that have put Lititz in their list of top places to live or visit. They really grab hold of the "coolest small town" thing though, so that's what most people know.

    If you ever get the chance drive PA Rt 160. It starts at the Mason-Dixon line near Wellersburg in Somerset County and ends in Ebensburg in Cambria County. It goes through a handful of small towns (my hometown is one of them) but is mostly country.

    if you ever get the chance go up 287 off of 220. it is a beautiful drive. you will come to a quaint little town of wellsboro, when you get to the traffic light go either left or right either way you will find places to explore. if you turn left you can get to the Grand Canyon, if you turn right you can head to towanda that way and that is beautiful drive. you will end up at the lake and there is trails to walk there too as well as go down to the lake. I love it there. the lake is called Hammond lake.

    Thanks so much for sharing. Salem Church was a German Reformed church. My 7th great grandfather Rev. Johan Philip Boehm, born in Germany 1683, died 1749, was regarded as the founding father of the german ref churches here in america. He had many churches Falkner's Swamp, Boehm's Reformed Church in Whitpain, and more, many which still exist today. It's always great to see other reformed churches in PA.

    I grew up in a small town in Columbia County (Benton) and I’ll always remember the day I was visiting there and then drove to Philadelphia the same day (taking back roads of course). It took a few hours, but the contrast in locations was staggering. Hard to believe it is the same state. Of course, both have pros and cons, but the vast difference is fantastic.

Looks like it is smiling down on you! Check it out! Thanks for the ride along. I need to take a day trip just to get out Somewhere. Amazing day trip! Parks, Petting Zoo, Pretzel (Yum!), beautiful scenery, fluffy white clouds, springs, overlook, Meier stone house, area you grew up, & just it all! Wonder what Meier would have thought about traffic so close to his home. You have an absolutely gorgeous mountain Cliff!! Thanks to you & Naomi for a wonderful fun day!! 🥰❤

    I put in a a request for Routes 42 and 487. 487 is really nice going up Red Rock Mountain up through Mildred, Lopez and then Dushore. Very remote and scenic.
