Did you match the color back to original Volk or something different? I know you mentioned the clear was Autoclear M4, what was the Akzo paint code you used?
Since the quart is mixed 50/50 with the appropriate reducer, it then becomes half gallon. 1 gallon can paint entire car/truck, so half gallon hould be enough for 2 - 3 coats.
@PaintSociety I did my rims after taking your consistent advice over the years. That is the last year of using paint cans. You did a great job painting those wheels but i don't recommend these types of wheel stands. I have a simmilar one and as long as the wheels are fairly light there's no problem flipping them over. It's when they get bigger like >19" when things get a little rough. You might not be able to grab them by the barrel like shown here sometimes you just have to grab them from the bottom and top and you're risking leaving glove marks on the paint. Another thing is some wheels have the inner bore shaped in a way that when you flip them it will be touching the stand's axis (eg. BMW Styling 87 - look it up) and then the job is ruined. I speak from experience. I once saw a stand where the axis are positioned at a 45° angle and it's a bit higher so you can paint the whole wheel simultaneously.
Confused by this comment, the wheel weights were taken off not sure what video you’re watching, that was an authenticity and wheel spec sticker I taped off
Around the 2:00 mark when the wheel was on the stand there was some yellow tape on a strip that appeared to be cover a strip of wheel weights. Maybe they were removed later.
@PaintSociety yes, I have seen that many or length of wheel weights unfortunately stuck inside a wheel. Typically by bad tire shops. Wasn't arguing, just stating what I think the other comment was about. One can see when the wheel was being sealed and painted there were no wheel weight
Well, I will say that living in a european country where the curbs are made solely to annihalate your wheels, chances of you damaging your powdercoated wheels are a million times higher than the paint degrading within that same timeperiod, so there's really no point in powdercoating wheels
No disrespect, but why not bead blast the wheels, followed by powder coating? Faster, more durable and taking account of the cost of time, not too expensive.
Wheels should not be powdered coated. I need to teach you how to paint wheels. Your stand is a very good beginning for sure. Wheels for perfect "PRO" restoration must be blasted. But not blasted like 99% of people that hit it with their regular media and destroy everything. There is a specific 0 dust media super fine for aluminium and metal if you want 0 damage. It grinds down to 800-1000 grid. Then you epoxy the wheels using some of the best epoxy on the market, and then you paint using your usual painting technique, but using specific hard clear coat. Powder coating is junk. Unremovable, unfixable and ugly. I have never seen a single person restore and paint a wheel to perfection on the internet in my 40 years of restoring things. Love your videos obviously. If you had no clue, I would not bother commenting. Also, you need Mini gun for wheels and car parts. Something like SRI Pro Lite or the new PRO LITE S.
