About Gold Shaw Farm: Gold Shaw Farm is more of a farm-in-progress than an honest-to-goodness farm. We dream that someday we can transform our 150+ acre parcel of land into a regenerative and productive homestead and farm.
A couple i knew from Alaska got a Grand Pyrenees "mutt", which grew up to be a 140-200 lb Grand Pyrenees looking dog, as a puppy shortly before thier first was born. They also had a 5 year old, 5-7 pound seal point, female cat. Well, there were problems for both baby and mama and the husband was split between hospitals, work, and home complete with a new puppy for a good 2-4 weeks. He would crash on the couch cuddled up to the puppy and elsewise the puppy was raised by the cat who batted the puppy into expected behavior with a claw drawn every so often. At peak working, winter weight a couple of years later that dog groomed himself like a cat, expected his couch time, ate and drank daintely, and preferred to sit in laps. Learning from the cat he could begin with a head in the shoulder of someone sitting on a couch, then it was one paw on the back of the couch followed by an over the back couch slide onto a targeted lap (and whome ever else his body happened to sprawl across). The cat did much the same but from a walking-the-back-of-the-couch possition.

Cats deserve more credit in this world. They've been silently influencing it for thousands of years. Sounds like the secret ingredient in Toby's success is Pablo. Abby needs to spend more time with that wise man.😀

I have a cat who grew up with some world champion hunting dogs and he's the most well behaved cat ever. I really feel like cats and dogs socializing together brings out the best of both species

I ride the bus a lot & needed something distinctive enough that I would recognize it as mine.
So I chose the crow of a rooster since I live in the city.
I've lost count of the times I've had my head turn up thinking it was my phone ringing only to remember I'm watching a TH-cam video.
Same thing out in the north of town some folks have roosters. I hear it & check my phone. Or at least have the urge to check it.
It also really confused a driver one day because she thought it was a rooster.
I did think about having my phone meow but one day a lady's phone kept going off & I kept looking for my cats to see what they wanted every single time. Drove me nuts.
One of the subtle bits of genius with this channel is barn cats leverage the Golden Rule of YT: "You can never go wrong with a cat video". It's like extra views are built into every episode.

Yes, both Toby and Abby are the best farm dogs and companions in my view, Morgan is very lucky to have both of them.
I love the "Pyr Paw!" Ours gives a look along with the paw that clearly says, "You weren't done paying attention to me!"
My karakachan does that too. He can really hit me if I don't start cuddling fast enough 😄 and he's quite strong.
Most dogs put their paws on you for attention.

I grew up on a farm we had to eat our animals and that's just the way it works. Better to know where your food come from and it's clean and ethical

Abby went to play with the zucchini not the birds so that's a good step. Your theory makes absolute sense about Toby dog, that's why he's so chilling mellow he's like a cat, where is Abby was a puppy and had Toby to look to and she wants to be a crazy dog. Spot on! My dog will paw me when she wants something, and she's absolutely not interested in other dogs she really thinks she's a person. She's a Rescue, Had her 10 years and she's been the best companion dog and she will look at other dogs that are barking and being crazy, and just turn around and walk away no interest. Toby used to get some toys, Abby's never really had a toy to play with maybe she needs a little outlet like she wanted the zucchini

Probably the thing I like the most about your videos is how clearly it shows that you care about all the animals and other aspects of your farm! You really treat all your animals, but especially the dogs and cats, like they're part of your family, and it's awesome! Keep up the good work on your farm Morgan!
You're theory about Toby made me realize that my dog, who was also raised with 2 cats since 3 months old, also does the pawing to get pets or my attention. She also uses her paws more during playing with other dogs and tends to be really chill. It could just be her breed, but I find it interesting.
I have the opposite going on here. I have an older dog and got a bottle baby kitten that was raised around the dog. She now acts more like a dog than a cat 🤣 plays fetch, comes when called, will wait for you to release her to get her food.....she still does some typical cat things but its so funny to see how being raised around different animals makes them act different 😆

My Pyrenees also does the paw when she wants attention, its adorable until you get whacked in the face by a giant paw! GP owners call it the Pyr Paw. I know Maremmas are closely related, so its cool to see that they do it too.
My Karakachan (also an LGD) does this too.
At best, my GSD will lie very still next to me, with little physical contact if she wants to be petted.

I used to have a Pyrenees when I was younger and he would find and eat moles within my back yard. Toby finding those moles reminds me of my Pyrenees.

Actually, you can cut the zucchini very thin and flour and egg them, then deep fry and they are good. Like a veggie chip for snacking.
My mom loves those big zucchini for making stuffed zucchini. She said the little ones are too much work for stuffing.
I use those big zucchini’s to shred for cakes, loafs, cookies, brownies

I came to this channel shortly after it began. It was with the experiment with ducks hatching their own ducklings. So I was here with Morgan planning getting a dog. Yes, I saw the heartbreak with the minks breaking in twice. It's so nice to see the equivalent of a birthday cake for Toby dog on his 3rd birthday. It's also nice to see Abby get a similar "cake" to celebrate Toby's 3rd birthday. Yep, tis a special day on the farm.

For the weeds, I suggest a couple of goats. Cycle them through after the cattle and they'll eat all the weeds the cattle don't. If you don't want milk goats, you can get meat or fiber goats.

I do miss the old Pablo and Toby days. I always felt like they would end up robbing a bank together, or pulling off a heist. Toby walks in the front door wearing a 3 piece suit, charming everyone, while Pablo comes in the back door guns a blazing. They were such a great cohesive team. I’d love too what Pablo is up to these days.

I love how you name all your animals with full names. On the one hand it’s ironic and funny, but on the other hand it shows respect - you give them a Biography as well. They become distinguished Sirs and Madams in our ears.

That is about the cutest thing I’ve ever seen! Have you thought about getting a donkey? A lot of ranchers here in AZ “hire” them to protect their livestock. They can be dangerous to coyotes, etc.
Donkeys (and llamas, another guard-animal candidate) do not like canines, including Livestock Guardian Dogs. There are exceptions, but in general, dogs are perceived by them to be predators. Most LGD experts will say that it's not possible to combine the two systems. Again, I know there are exceptions, but that's what those are.
Was feeling tired but now it seems like I'm not and its currently 6AM in the morning! Didn't sleep at all...due to major stress, been wanting to watch this but didn't get the chance to so I decided to watch this now to make me even more sleepier. Thank you this is so relaxing to just listen to your voice and see the beautiful animals.
The way we got our dogs and cats used to each other, is we would sit outside with the dogs and the cats would eventually wander over. And with a Rottie puppy, we had to keep him calm, so we actually kept him on a leash when doing this so he couldn't bolt. That way if he wants to play with a cat, he can't give chase, he's gotta face the pit pat of paws on his head! My other dog, a White Shepherd, was like Toby, just chill. Finally, we would light a fire and the cats had a couple of chairs in front of the fire, so we were a nice big happy family. Worked out great!

my border collie/black lab was like that too. Daisy would give herself full manicure/pedicure like cats do and keep her feet quite tidy because she was in a house with one cranky Chihuahua that hated her and 2 cats growing up so guess who who took after. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TOBY YOU GOODEST BOY!
