    I was sympathetic towards Edwina until "half sister." After that, nada. Mary...seriously, as a mom, she's just flunking both her kids. Edwina as the center of the universe kid who doesn't understand the repercussions of being the Golden Child-to herself or others, and Kate as the "she'll take care of herself" kid who gets emotionally neglected because she wont throw tantrums or demand what she needs, so her mom just assumes she needs nothing.

    The half sister comment broke me. It solidified that when things get worse, Mary and Edwina will be a unit and Kate will be left alone. In this episode, I break my heart for Kate. Anthony will still have his family and wealth, Edwina will still have Mary, and Kate will have no one. She is literally an orphan. That's why I think she protects and loves Edwina so much because she's the only family she has by blood. 😢

      You really feel that all Kate's actions and feelings about not being good enough made sense. It makes Edwina look very selfish as Kate has protected her and literally taught her everything she knows and doesn't take that into consideration at all when something doesn't go her way.

      Good riddance to Edwina in Season 3. I can't decide if the writers purposely wrote her to act like a little brat to Kate after she ran from the alter so we wouldnt miss her, or, if the actress and/or directors simply didn't understand the assignment. She went from forgivably sweet and innocent, to an awakened spoiled little brat in like .2 seconds. Wtf. The "half sister" scene was brutal, but feelings were expressed that clearly needed to be said. But after having time to make a decision, and in a calmer setting, I feel like the exact same script in the scene with the three of them back in the chapter, if it were portrayed a bit softer and with less attitude by the actress, Edwina could have redeemed herself from the rude "half-sister" comment and become more of a heroine/likeable character by, instead of being mad at Kate, simply saying it in a way that said "thank you for giving me everything that you did, but clearly and understandably, you also want it for yourself, because who wouldnt?! So, now im giving what you gave me back to you. Anthony is now all yours. And btw, what you just pulled was f@(%-ed up, and yes, I deserve to be mad about it." But, instead, her tone said " how dare you try to give your perfectly normal dreams, that 99.8% of the female population has, to me?!!"... Who the F@(% would say that???... Edwina did. That B!+(#. The actress could have said the exact same words in a different way... almost being sorry for what she was saying, but still being honest, like "I feel like my life has not been my own... I didn't ask for you to help me like this... and I feel like I need a journey that is going to allow myself to find my own path, but thank you for what you did. Anthony is all yours, clearly he loves you and not me, and you deserve it. Bu-bye!" That would have been much easier to swallow, but I also guess it would have made the show boring and less painfully dramatic, which, let's be honest, we are all here for the DRAMA, right? I wonder if Kate's messed up past trauma is because Mary and Edwina unknowingly always used her as the "family scapegoat" aka, its easier to place blame on someone else willing to take the blame rather that addressing the real problem, which is a good way to mess people up. That would be some fun drama to watch, and satisfying to see her finally happily accepted by her new Bridgerton family. I have a feeling (hope?) that season 3 will have some Kate and Eloise bonding moments, both Eloise and Kate could finally have a sister that they can relate to. Yay!

      OK, OK, maybe I was a bit harsh when I said good riddance to Edwina. There is no doubt in my mind that she was intended to be a strong female character just like the rest of all the bridgerton women. But perhaps the reason so many people are so conflicted about Edwina, and do not "get it", is be cause we are confused. But why are we confused? Why are there so many who don't get her? I have a theory: The argument that Edwina is so great is because she showed so much growth as a character and redeemed herself in the end. I think the confusion is the timing of when we see her growth. After Edwina ran from the alter, there are two scenes where she is really upset and angry towards Kate. OK, ok, I officially give Edwina permission to be upset, and be given a chance to grow. These two scenes were before she made her decision, before she met with the queen and ultimately got the queen's nod of approval to call off the wedding. Her growth should have occurred and been demonstrated upon the "noble" decision she made to call it off. She would have had to experience said growth and be at peace with her decision at the time she made the decision. Instead, she made the "noble" decision, and then went to the chaple, and continued to ream poor Kate. Imo, she has my permission to be as sassy and upset as she wants towards Anthony, but in this scene, she was harsher to Kate than she was to Anthony... ? If she had experienced growth, and made a noble and wise decision because of it, we would have seen it by the time she got back to the Chapel, she would have been more at peace and in a more calmed state because of this great decision she made. But, instead, she acted like a brat to Kate, and continued to do so until her accident. At some point I wondered if she regretted her decision, based on her behavior. Edwina's growth was portrayed to occur between Kate's accident and the Featherington, where she finally gave Kate permission to pursue Anthony. So, does this mean her growth happened because Kate almost died, suddenly causing a change of heart? I feel like her change of heart should have occurred after meeting with the queen and discussing true love, thus causing a "noble" decision to end the wedding. Do ya'll see why we're all confused? What exactly changed and made her grow? Was it Her better understanding of true love, or her love for Kate? I honestly don't know, nor do I know if I'm confused due to the script, or the acting. I feel like, with Kate and Anthony, I always understood why they did what they did, it made sense. Edwina does not make sense. I won't say I hate her, but I don't get her. I get the idea of her greatness that she ended at, she is obviously fit to play the role of a princess, and usually carried herself as such, but I just don't fully understand the path.... I don't understand the comment in the museum about not believing in true love, if that were the case, she should have just married Anthony. So, now, I think that Edwina didn't ultimately choose true love, she just ultimately chose Kate over Anthony. And grew because she finally stood up to Kate. She's still clueless about the whole true love part, and subsequently, still regretted not marrying her vicount for status. She grew a little, but enough to make her the best? Idk about that. It should not have been that hard for her to just simply choose Kate over Anthony, especially upon learning that Anthony did not love her... what/where was her growth again? Her love for Kate grew after Kate's accident and after she told Kate she no longer has power over her?!? Idk.. I'm so confused... My mind keeps going in circles... I hope season 3 does not give me more mind circles..
      Afterthought: Edwina's "growth" consisted of her growing a couple brain cells, and learning to be unselfish enough to allow Kate to pursue Anthony without being bitter about it, and yet, still has to live with regrets of her harsh comments like, "half-sister" and "back off" which I'm not quite over yet, and I give Kate permission to not be over it either, that was horrible. And Kate was still begging her for forgiveness afterwards..
      Edwina gets praise and pat on the back for allowing Kate to freely follow her heart/hook up with Anthony after telling Kate to stop controlling life?? Without acknowledging that she has basically controlled Kate's life, and she didn't say thank you for her sacrifice, but instead, said "I didn't ask for it, Kate!"... ??? I don't know, folks, I'm just not crazy about her...

Putting the blame on Kate is ridiculous because you can’t really help who you have feelings for or a connection with. It’s not like she TRIED to steal Anthony from Edwina, in fact it was the opposite! It’s not like Kate decided one day, “hey, I think I’m going to have feelings for Anthony but secretly harbor them so that I can have an affair with him once my sister is married.” THAT would be worthy of scorn, but that’s not what happened.

    I feel like the family's constant criticism of Anthony and Daphne's speech in particular is an attempt to shock him out of the self destructive path he is taking. Daphne is trying to get him to realize that his choices aren't serving him, or his family. They aren't trying to hurt him, they are trying to make him realize what he is doing to himself.

      Yes, especially his choice to marry Edwina because of "duty." His mother and Daphne have been trying over and over to get him to see reason to understand. And he still complains about having to make that sacrifice for duty. And acts like hes doing it for his family but in reality he just cannot handle his feelings and dosnt listen to what his family wants for him.
      He makes sacrfices despite his family and not only for. And then as Daphne says resents them because he feels he had to do it. Blames them for his choices often to their faces. They didnt ask for him to do it. Daphne was right to tell him off because he wont listen to reason or get of his "i know best, and i must do this against your advice and better judgement." High horse.
      He would have married Edwina and then go on woefully about how he married for his family and all the sacrifices he had to make for them, when his mother and sister were practically begging him not to do this to himself. He puts a lot of the pressure on himself.
      I think Daphne was so right to say that. There is only so much one can take of the "woe is me, i do these things for you." Attitude and behavior.
      I feel for Anthony, it hasnt been easy for him but he deserved that.
      Not as much as a i feel for Kate who has sacrificed over and over again and done so in silence and who dosnt put that resentment for her own choices on her sister.

      @@silverkyre Great comment, I agree. There is a lot of psychology in Anthony, some therapy would have helped him this day and age but he felt alone in everything. Even though Daphne and Violet tried their best, he had to WANT to be a better person. And by the end you can clearly see that he’s owning up to things, is humbled, and wants to be a man his father can be proud of.
      Also he didn’t really stop to think how marrying Edwina wouldn’t even help the family, she has no chemistry with them and would not fit in at all. She would give him an heir or two and that’s about all.

    Two scenes who hurted my soul the most: Kate crying alone in the closet, and Anthony freaking out on the inside with his entire family there, who didn't notice. It just showed how alone they both were, even when they were surrounded by family. I also think they did a great job this season in showing us how a person suffering from anxiety, expecially a man, could have lived on this time period. Mental issues weren't even recognized and they lived in a toxic masculinity society where the man wasn't allowed to cry, or show any vulnerabily and had to always be the strong one, no matter what. Nobody could truly understand Anthony or get through him (except for Kate), because they didn't have the sensibility to get it, but also because he wasn't going to let them.

Also because when he first turns around and she adjusts his cravat he has SUCH a fond smile on his face and it disappears completely when she starts her sermon. And I know people love Benedict because he’s the fun one (and so do I) but he’s had the freedom to be whoever and whatever he wants to be - not everyone has the luxury of being the life of the party

    • @justcallmeaj4105
      @justcallmeaj4105 2 ปีที่แล้ว +52

      I agree with you but also Daphne isn't 100% wrong. I fully believe that Anthony could share the burden of leading the family with his brothers. Benedict and Colin are younger than him but they are just as educated and just as kind-hearted as he is. If Anthony would have asked either of them to help him balancing the books or whatever, I'm convinced Benedict would have gone "of course!" immediately.
      Anthony is taking a lot of stuff on all by himself, when he is part of a really big family of well-educated and intelligent people. He has to learn to ask for help and to humble himself sometimes. As of season 2, he constantly reminds everyone how hard his life is and how much of a burden he carries, but he never even considers asking for help (which is also what Benedict was alluding to in his little speech at the bachelor party).
      I really hope we can see that happen for him next season, actually, but I worry that Mr. Controlfreak will never learn.

    • @AW-xc1xc
      @AW-xc1xc 2 ปีที่แล้ว +55

      Hm, my interpretation of Daphnes speech was that it was harsh but necessary. Anthony has to hear that his burdens (that can be shared with others in his family) do not in fact make anyone respect him more, because they see that it is at the cost of his well being. They pity him because he sacrifices and never asks for help, and instead of those sacrifices being worth something, it falls flat because he's too hard on himself. He blames his siblings for not helping, even though he never asks them now that they're all older.
      It's tragic, but not anyone's fault really. The sooner Anthony realises the better for him, which is what I think Daphne was getting at. Could she have worded it more carefully? Yes, but it had to be said.

    • @aray337
      @aray337 2 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@AW-xc1xc I agree that the core message of Daphne's speech was necessary, but the way she chose to deliver it was absolutely horrendous. The timing was also terrible because if she felt so vehemently about it, she should have approached him earlier instead of chastising him when he was literal minutes away from being married in front of the Queen. What was he going to do? Cancel the wedding and cause a scandal? I know that ended up happening anyway, but I don't know what Daphne expected Anthony to do in that moment.
      Let's take a look at what Daphne said. She told Anthony that he made choices and then resented the rest of his family for them, but I see no evidence of that at all. Yes, he did bemoan his situation at times, but I think he was entitled to that when he really did have no choice but to be the one to step up. Yes, he did hide behind his "duty as the firstborn son" excuse, but that was a coping mechanism and not a sign that he resented his siblings. He never blamed the decisions he had to make on his family. If anything, he internalized the consequences of his decisions, especially the consequences of his failures. He didn't usually talk about his sense of not being able to fill Edmund's shoes as he much preferred to brood in his study, but his little explosion at Violet in the beginning of Episode 7 demonstrated how he believed that he had failed "at more things than you [Violet] and Father will ever know". Anthony did not begrudgingly do his duty while resenting the fact that he had to do it. No, Anthony willingly did his duty because he loved his family.
      Regarding Daphne's wording, she did not have to say that Anthony's family did not respect him and that they pitied him. For someone who is supposed to have helped him take care of the younger Bridgerton siblings after Edmund's death, how could she not have seen the effort he has put in for over a decade? For someone who is supposed to care about him, how could she not have seen that his family's regard means everything to Anthony? The answer can only be that she knew it, and she still phrased it that way. I just don't know why the writers made her say that when there were ways of communicating her message without hitting one of Anthony's sore spots.

    • @aray337
      @aray337 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@justcallmeaj4105 I agree that Daphne's message that Anthony needs to allow himself to follow his heart. However, I don't think that he could or would share the burden of being the head of the household. The schooling that men and women differed vastly in the Regency era, so despite the Bridgerton daughters being intelligent, they wouldn't actually be equipped with the skillset to manage the household in the way Anthony does (though they would eventually learn to manage the household in the way Violet does).
      As for Benedict and Colin, it would be a steep learning curve as even an Eton education does not immediately prepare one for managing a viscounty. However, the biggest thing is that Anthony does not want to burden them. He wants Benedict to be able to pursue his artistic passions, and he wants Colin to pursue his globetrotting dreams. I understand that it seems a little hypocritical that he bemoans his position as firstborn son and his duty, but that is just a coping mechanism. At the end of the day, Anthony does his duty because he loves his family, and he also refuses to share the burden because he loves his family.
      I do think, however, that "Mr. Controlfreak" will learn to ask for help in Season 3. Kate is absolutely obstinate enough to not take any of his shit. At the same time, Kate is controlling herself, so I think she will also learn to ask for help when it comes to the duties and responsibilities of being a viscountess. In short, I am looking forward to Kanthony learning to lean on each other in Season 3!

      I feel like Anthony needed to hear what Daphne had to say just before the wedding. He was high-handed with her, when she tried to tell him he was making a huge mistake with the engagement - several times. He seems to be very guarded around all of his siblings - puts on a facade as if being in control - more so with her - who no doubt shared in the responsibilities of looking after the younger siblings - like the time she was singing to Eloise when their mother was having baby Hyacinth and was screaming in pain. This is the exact reason why Anthony needs someone like Kate, who helps him laugh at himself and be vulnerable. Being an eldest child myself, I feel like we take ourselves too seriously sometimes and do need a dressing down once in a while.

He brings up his martyrdom every chance he gets, and has made his duty his entire personality, to the point where it's a family inside joke. This keeps him from finding his own purpose in life, his own motivations, and that will make anyone pitiful.

    Did Edwina have a right to be mad? Yes and No. If you think about it Edwina is the one that picked Viscount Bridgerton and not the other way around. Edwina had a line of suitors out the door after being named the Diamond but she had already set her sites on Viscount Bridgerton and it didn't matter one bit what Kate had told her about him or that she knew he wouldn't be the husband for Edwina. Kate and Viscount Bridgerton both told Edwina the truth but she decided to ignore it. When they were having the Haldi ceremony and Edwina was whining about the Viscount not looking at her enough and showing her the love and passion she thinks he has for her. These are comments from a young Lady(girl) and not a grown woman. Most of this wedding episode was full on Edwina hating on Kate for trying to give Edwina exactly what she said she wanted. "For the first time in my life I am able to make a decision on what I would like". Hello, you Edwina picked Viscount Bridgerton against Kate wishes. Or the "I did not ask for any of it Kate" line. Who is the one who told Kate "He's the one I want Kate, the Viscount, his family, the home, the life he offers me". She kept pushing Kate and Anthony together so that she would get what she wanted which was for Viscount Bridgerton to propose. Kate kept pushing Anthony away ultimately to give Edwina exactly what she wanted, to be Viscountess Bridgerton. The only reason she even got to the alter in the first place was because Kate again pushed Anthony away and talked him out of calling off the engagement. So all of this hating on Kate and Anthony is a bunch of crap. Are Kate and Anthony innocent in all of this NO. But they certainly should NOT be taking almost ALL of the blame. Ultimately, Edwina was exactly what she was raised to be. A young debutant looking for a good marriage no matter what she had to do and say to get it.

    I _hated_ Daphne saying telling Anthony that the family doesn’t respect him, but pity him. I feel like even at this point, not a single member of his family understands the sacrifices he’s made as the eldest son. Even when he literally tells them to their face. He absolutely broke his back for them and it’s like they don’t see it.
    Benedict gets to go to parties and enrol in art school to chase his dreams. Colin can get his heart broken and decide to go travelling for a year. Hell, even Daphne only got to be the diamond because the Bridgertons are such a respectable family, and they wouldn’t have remained that way if Anthony hadn’t held them together.
    He’s basically been a father to his youngest siblings, making sure the family’s finances are in order and that the kids receive an adequate education, and he’s never asked for so much as a thank you. He just does it. So for Daphne to say they don’t respect him is just a massive slap in the face.

The whole point of Anthony’s character is that he shoulders the burden so his family doesn’t have to. When someone does that for you, you don’t say “I never asked you to do that.” Keep in mind that Anthony never blamed his siblings for his life, he simply stated it as a reality and wanted them to acknowledge it too.

    In Indian culture (mostly Hinduism but it happens in other religions too), bangles are a big deal. There is this belief that when a man finds his bride, he gifts her the traditional heirloom bangles that have been passed down through generations. It is symbol of marriage in the culture and you're absolutely right, it has been used a signifier in several stories (mostly films). Married women are required to wear bangles for a few days after their marriage as an ornament and yes, I am aware it sounds misogynistic when women are the only ones required to wear signifiers of being wed. This entire episode was kinda bollywood-y imo, with drama and bangles and bride running away and shit. But yes, thank you for coming to ny TED talk.

      Yeah, my only problem with this interpretation doesn’t acknowledge that Kate and Anthony are full grown adults (26 and 29) while Edwina is a debutante, so she’s likely under 20 (she was 17 in the books 💀). Like they’ve all been immature but I feel like Edwina’s faults are made smaller by the fact that she’s a teenager being lied to and manipulated by a (nearly) 30 yo man (I know he doesn’t have malicious intentions but he was still lying to her through all his courting). It’s kinda ridiculous people fault her as much as they fault the other two when she his a child. And like, breathing in her sister’s fiance’s mouth is also below the belt 💀

      I've been in a similar hazed-brained, heart in your throat and body on fire bond as Anthony and Kate found themselves in. That Kate and Anthony were both able to keep it to just breathing into each other's mouths was a herculean effort on both their parts. I do give more restraint credit to Kate, though. The only times she deliberately went after Anthony's mouth, in a sexual manner, occurred after the marriage was officially called off. Anthony, on the other hand, was the one who always prowled into Kate's space and placed his lips as close to hers as possible without eating her up like a starving man.

      @happyjellycatsquid 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@eme.261 Yeah I definitely think Anthony is the worst one here ahah ! And I’m sure it’s very intense, I just take issue with the fact that Kate had so little believe in her sister’s maturity that she’s rather lie and manipulate her into obtaining instant happiness that won’t last, rather than explain to her what was happening with Anthony. People often peg this as a selfless action without acknowledging that while it is partly selfless, it’s also deeply hurtful to Edwina. Imagine realising your sister just doesn’t trust you enough to tell you anything, nor to even include you into the decision process of something that will bind you for LIFE. She has every reason to be enraged.

    • @eme.261
      @eme.261 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@happyjellycatsquid
      As FullofLit noted multiple times in the video, at a certain point, selfless behavior crosses into damaging choices. Kate lost her perspective of the situation, but it's understandable, as she had to step forward into making the type of decisions that emotionally mature adults are better equipped for while she was still a child. She had also been grieving for the loss of her father and likely doing everything to ensure she earned Mary's and Edwina's love while putting her needs and feelings last. If she lost them, who would she have with both her mother and father already dead? Kate did the very best she could.
      Edwina was coddled and protected by Kate and when it came down to it, she could choose her own real chance at happiness over everyone else's because she was raised secure in the deep love of her older sister and mother.

  • @hali_55
    @hali_55 2 ปีที่แล้ว +32

    I think a very important moment in the show that gets over shadowed by the “you are the bane of my existence” line (which is iconic btw) is that during that scene, both Anthony and Kate mutually agree that ending the engagement is the right thing to do. Anthony leaves with that intention and Kate has no plans to stop him. Kate only convinces him to carry on with it when Edwina tells her that she loves Anthony and marrying him is what she wants most in the world. And Anthony only agrees to it because it’s what Kate wants.
    Kate’s already sacrificed so much for her sister, how could she possibly look Edwina in the eyes and tell her that she can’t marry Anthony, who she loves, because she herself is in love with him too?

    • @thesilvershining
      @thesilvershining 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Kate says “I never asked to be plagued by these feelings” and the “insupportable” and “impossible” lines signified that they both agreed their own union (Kate and Anthony) could never be a thing-especially since courting his fiancée’s sister after a broken engagement over a dowry (that he doesn’t even care about) would be so scandalous for them. It’s not like Kate has a dowry either!! But then Anthony shakes his head and says he can’t possibly marry Edwina because he would always want Kate and his honor would snap one day.
      In the forest scene you can see his confusion when Kate begs him to go through with the marriage… he came there to end it all and Kate and Edwina would be free of him. You can see her hesitate before asking… she knows she has to give up Anthony and all her feelings for him so her sister can have a good life. Her only crime here was to think her sister’s “love” for Anthony (which wasn’t love!) was better than her own. She has to once again write both their feelings off as “mere passion” in order to numb the pain she feels. She ends up sobbing after he leaves, she is CLEARLY in love with this man. It’s such a great scene.

    I think the dead people in Anthony's and Kate's life that is Edmund with his ring and Kate's mother with her bangles did way more than any living person in their family did for them. Ofcourse there is Daphne, and Violet and Lady Danbury to some extent, but the way they behaved so passively and sit and watched as if everything will sort itself out( it did but then again) was so ridiculous. Kate and Anthony are strong and always has been for their families sake and are stubborn too in their decisions, but they really needed a person to see behind this facade of strength they put up,to see their vulnerability too. And since they have found each other i daresay they will be this person for each other for the rest of their lives and I feel so happy for them! 😭

I've never had someone react the EXACT same way I did, and I feel so vindicated right now! Cannot thank you enough for this reaction. The first time I watched, I was riveted by the drama, and thought Anthony was going to a Ross and the bangle falling at the opportune moment felt like complete divine (and Kate's late mom's) intervention because that is such a Bollywood trope! I loved it. I felt for Edwina- I really did- but the half-sister comment coupled with what she says at the end? Umm, no? I'm also conflicted because I read Charithra say she was gonna marry Anthony to save their families until that episode with the Queen when she gives her her blessing to choose? So that decision wasn't hers alone, it was the Queen enabling her? And also she was totally okay with Kate walking away from her life and staying in India -like she knew she would never visit! But I'm an older sibling and I completely get these two self-sabotaging idiots. They are foolish, and misguided and lost, but I understand them at such a deep level! I’m with you about Daphne, Ben and Colin. That 'pity' comment? I love you for being so perceptive all season, Daph and for noticing what no one else did, but that was not okay! I want them all to hug him and tell him they love him, especially in the face of what he says in Ep. 7. The man thinks he's unlovable! And Kate thinks she has to 'earn' love and that it cannot be freely given. I swear, I hate their world for making them feel all this guilt and for blaming them for just being in love! They did not even act on those feelings until Edwina was out of the picture and we're still judging them? Sorry, I got carried away, but please - to people who disagree - this is just my absolute love and bias for Kanthony that's speaking. They will always be first for me, no offense to anyone else! Completely agree w/every point made. I found it infuriating that the Bridgerton siblings were either oblivious or judgmental. "You did not even weep once" HOW does she not get the position he was thrust into the moment their father died? & their mother wanted to die as well. She was old enough to understand. It makes the bonds between the siblings seem superficial and it's not supposed to be that. "Not worthy of our respect"? Take a thousand seats, Daphne.
    The "half" sister comment was BRUTAL. I'm not a book purist but book Edwina would NEVER. I didn't like that at all. She was told from day one he wasn't looking for love, he didn't want love. He literally TOLD her he would not offer her a passionate relationship but a dutiful one. She needs to take some time for self-reflection instead of finger pointing. Enough blame to go around only means she needs to own her own sh*t as well. No one else is responsible for the mental gymnastics she performed to make reality suit her dreams. Don't even get me started on Mary's obliviousness. Kate would have had to send her an engraved letter to get her to notice anything.
    I will cape for Kate Sharma and Anthony Bridgerton forever. Layered, flawed, and lovely. Separately. But together? WOW. They need each other, they understand each other. they want to see each other naked. It's all the ingredients you need!

    I actually really liked what daphne said. I didn't interpret it as her slandering Anthony, I think she understood that Anthony always put his family's needs before his own happiness and daphne knew the only way to make him choose himself was to make him realise that his actions would not make them happy, it would just hurt everyone more, including him of course.

    Yes as you said those bangles are really important.
    Usually, mother-in-law gives her bangles to the daughter-in-law or bride's mother gives her bangles to her daughter after the marriage is arranged to pass it down to the future generations.
    So it was really hard for Kate to give up those bangles to Edwina.
    She loves her that much.
    And I like that they added this detail plus the haldi ceremony was just perfection.

    All I gotta say is that I am an older child and I have a sister (half sister if we are gonna be technical) and this episode hurt me in ways I was not expecting.
    It was always my responsibility to take care of her, even when we were adults. She did all the “fun” things because she could count on me to rescue her (including a time I had to rent a car and take her from an abusive relationship, I was not sure the guy was gonna let me take her). I love her and I’d do it again. She loves me, and she’d do it again (lol). She is a lot more serious now, we are so close, but if I had to drive across the country again to help her I would. It’s what you do. Sometimes I feel unappreciated, I am sure sometimes she does too. The roles we grow up with are hard to break.
    Anyway, this season is for older siblings for sure.

    Having several controlling people in my family who routinely use their "responsabilities" as an excuse to go well and truly beyond what anybody expects (or indeed asks for!) from them, and ulteriorly blame everyone for the overburdened life they've constructed and resent... I really understand what the Bridgerton siblings are all trying to tell Anthony. Each and everyone of them is very much aware Anthony's place as viscount and first-born shapes his whole life. They are all grateful (and most certainely relieved) neither of them have to do it in his stead. But sometimes I can really hear them shout in their minds "But we never asked you to do this much! Stop making me miserable because YOU can't just step back a bit and/or trust us to make our own decisions in life!"
    Does he have reponsabilities due to his position? Most certainly. Does he have to make everyone pay for them by complaining at length, reminding them repeatedly how much pressure he's under so they can feel pressured too (thanks bro!), and generally being a brat ? Absolutely not.
    Bottom line is, he's the one making his family turn away and pity him, as Daphne very acurately said. But no worries, it's just something he still has (2 episodes) to learn ;-)
    As always, great reaction video. Lots of love from Belgium!

      @@FullofLit Yes! I totally agree a bit more tenderness would have been great, although we've seen much more with Violet than I remember there beeing in the books! Or am I wrong ? Do you have the same impression? Seems to me like there's a deliberate choice there. The writers might have thought it would make it less relatable to modern audiences to have siblings not bickering or straight out gut punching each other? 😅 But I'm just speculating at this point ;)
      Overall I had the feeling Daphne was the one really trying to understand him and giving him multiple chances of opening up, of talking to her, of maybe even through her, understanding what he was going through. And he did kind of blow it to be fair, dismissing her more than once in a pretty patronizing way. But don't get me wrong, he's a man, a viscount in a profoundly sexist society, with huge pressure put upon him. So of course I understand where he's coming from and why his (younger) sisters opinion is so unwelcome. I really hope they continue to let us see his character arc in the next seasons, like the glimpses we saw in the books. I really enjoyed watching Kanthony blossom :)

And if they care so much about him why no one ever spontaneously decided to "help" him with all his duties (talking especially of the older brothers)... 🙄🙄 No... They are just making jokes of him (I know there are good intentions) but never showing affection to him and never trying to help him. They are just selfish, thinking about their own personal lives while without him they literally would not have a roof nor a good position... And not talking the fact that he literally RAISED the youngest brothers ALONE... The dad was dead and Violet was selfish and unable to react and take care about her own children for a very long time... She was selfish thinking about her own pain while leaving the responsability of 2 babies (Gregory and Hyacinth) to a 19 yo boy 🙄🙄🤐🤐🤐 without thinking he was suffering too for the death of the father and she did not even gave him the time to elaborate the loss... You also have to wonder exactly where Colin and Benedict would have been if Anthony hadn’t done what he did for his family. I mean, I am not very knowledgeable of regency era, but wasn’t it common for second and third sons to have to find work and the respectable jobs for people of standing being Military and Clergy?
    Also, I am going to say while Edwina p***ed me off with the half sister comment. It was Mary that made me livid. Especially in later episodes.
    I mean I see a lot of people complain about Edwina’s change in character in the books as tv Edwina wasn’t a Kanthony shipper like her book version. But I was more understanding of that and just kept thinking that Mary should have been the one stepping in and scolding Edwina for her behavior. Mary was supposed to be a mother to Kate, heck even tv series version said that, but she sure as he** didn’t act that way in this or following episodes.

    I personally feel like it never occured to her that Kate loved Anthony despite how obvious it was because she simply could not imagine Kate feeling such a way for the man Edwina was supposed to marry, it goes against everything Kate stood for her whole life. is that self centred of her, yeah, but at the same time I can't blame her when her whole life Kate's revolved around her, that's simply what's she's always known, and that is not her fault. Believe me I hated how Edwina treated Kate afterwards but I honestly believe that was the fault of the writers because I genuinely can't picture Edwina's character ever saying that. I kinda wish that we took a bit of time (maybe out of the stupid fake rubies plot line) after the wedding for Edwina to process her emotions and I wanted a full discussion and opening up to each other between Kate and Edwina after Kate's accident when Edwina was asking Kate about Anthony. WE DESERVED THAT!! THEY BOTH DID!! That way Edwina could truly understand Kate's perspective and not only comfort her but it would serve as further motivation for her to become independent.

They can be made up of gold, coloured glass or any other metal (it varies from state to state and culture to culture) and typically signify long life of the husband, fertility, and prosperity.

    Man I'm so happy to see people talking about this, because it's one of my main issues with the writing, almost no one from the Bridgertons seem to like Anthony ( and here I also include Violet, she's very harsh on him) , they are always treating him like shit, making fun of him, criticizing every single thing he does and says... to the point where I wonder why he has this sense of duty towards these people??? Or why does he even love them at all
    To me they went too for with Benedict in the same way they did it with Eloise; ok he's artsy we got that, but does he have a personality outside of that ? Can't see it...also, it feels really weird to me seeing him being book Colin, all boyish and carefree and not giving a damn when he's an older brother like Anthony..sir, grow up .
    And Daphne..Lord I was so sick of her arrogance, just coming in with lectures all the time about love because now that she's married she knows EVERYTHING about it 🙄...and excuse-me but you all just pity Anthony?? the guy that was responsible for the roof over your head, and is the only father figure the younger ones have ? That's just so wrong...
    I really think they messed up on the family dinamics tbh, it seems like every sibling, appart from the kids, is self centered and oblivous to anyone but themselves, unless if its to crack a joke ..a lot of drama happening and all Eloise does is talk talk talk about womens rights and how shes sick of going to balls,Benedict just wants to paint, get high and mock Anthony, and Colin is just there to be boring and celebrate the fact that Penelope is his doormat

      Omg you spoke my mind. I think the writers went too far with the siblings 'banter'. At one point I was like bruhhh cant you all see that Anthony is one inch away from a mental breakdown. His little outburst in the drawing room was so tame given that his family did barely anything to actually console him during his lowest if not make everything worse for his mental's state.
      I think his family did notice that he's struggling but not how *much* he actually was and proactively helped him. Sure he closed off his emotions when they reached out but it felt a bit cruel to see how even when he was having a hard time, the siblings still make snarky comments and give him harsh reality slaps when that's the last thing he needed. And it took Violet so long to realize that Anthony still hasn't processed his father's death well and how she was putting too much pressure on him. No wonder Anthony became so high strung and uptight. They are so quick to point out his inadequacies and it made him feel like he was doing a terrible job when he was trying his best to keep everything together.
      And this is why Kate is perfect for him cause not only does she offers the comfort and affection he desperately needed but she is the only person who *deeply* understands where he was coming from and why he is the way that he is.
      This is so long but I feel so strongly with how they treated Anthony this season 😭

And ask Edwina, how she was able to learn things or even eat food after the death of her father? Kate was the one who took up the responsibility while Mary and Edwina were oblivious to everything. The entire Sharma family was dysfunctional and unfortunately this wedding was the wake up call they all needed. While I get that people hate the "half sister" comment, it was pretty clear that the depth of co-dependence between Kate and Edwina was pretty strong. Kate made her whole existence around trying to create the life for Edwina she thought she should have, and Edwina wanting to please Kate had allowed her to decide for Edwina how she should live and what her goals and ambitions should be. The betrayal that Edwina is talking about is not that Kate fell in love with Anthony but that Kate told her for years this romantic story regarding love and destiny and then it all proved to be a sham. Kate was going to let Edwina be married to a man that was in love with Kate not ever having told her the truth. Edwina needed to create distance between her and Kate so she could make decisions for herself and the only way she felt she could do it at that point was to hurt her with the "half sister" comment. Keep in mind that Edwina has no idea about Kate not truly feeling part of her own family. In fact Kate makes a point of saying in the first episode of the season that nothing would never change how they say each other which was as sisters. Edwina was trying to tell Kate that these actions absolutely changed how Edwina saw her because now she could no longer trust Kate to be honest with her. Keep in mind NOTHING Kate did was meant maliciously. She did it because she deeply loved her sister and wanted to make sure that she had the best life possible if she had to be married to a member of the Ton. Edwina finally sees that but not until she almost loses Kate completely.
    As for Daphne's comment, you seemed have missed that just before that he had basically told her it was the family's fault that he was the way was. He deserved that comment from her.

    OMG I'm so happy that you brought up K3G and compared the bangles symbolism. That was the one movie that is worth smiling and crying for as a child and I always go back to watch it over and over.

    Both lady D and violet knew about their feelings but they somehow didn't want it.

      I think Lady D tried to get Kate to be honest with Edwina about how she felt, she said that in so many words...

    I am just now watching this series and it is killing me. I know new Edwina would find them out, assuming she'd catch them in an intense hand-stroking moment, just not an intense, hand-stroking moment at THE ALTAR!! Poor Kate. Love all your reactions.

    Okay, I have to say this about the bracelets. Kate is giving Edwina everything! She already gave Edwina her man, "now take what my deceased mother left for me!" UGH! Kate just stop
