@MadDog88 the NCR is not exactly great (spouting nonsense, literally not being able to kill people who only have knives, being condescending when it’s not gonna help with their being palatable to the public), but there’s some folks who are in it that are gems, or simply flawed people who only want to help; it’s the group and how they present themselves that is flawed. Plus, attacking caravans isn’t a great way to send a message of “I want to create a revolution, I believe in the betterment of the community”, I wouldn’t go with him when it comes to politics.

Well the Great khans arent so bad, yeah they make drugs, but you can just tell the guy to start making more stimpaks and other helpfull stuff. And I really love that ending where the khans teamup and help the followers of the apocalypse.
They're not really raiders either. I mean, sure they're not shining paragons of morality, but they're not the Fiends. The worst thing they do is manufacture chems that the NCR declared illegal. They make their own food, they don't go out murdering and stealing from settlers (not anymore at least.), and they're not immediately hostile to outsiders. The only real reason they supply the Fiends is so they can get back at the NCR for Bitter Springs.
Unless you played the first fallout game, where the Khans were nothing but brutal raiders that killed and kidnapped people from Shady Sands (the town that started the republic) including their leaders daughter. They sort of had it coming when the NCR brutalized them.
This is the Khans after getting their shit kicked in three times though. The original gang got destroyed by the Vault Dweller, the second gang was destroyed by the Chosen One, and the third gang was destroyed by the NCR at Bitter Springs. The Khans we see in game are the survivors of the near-annihilation of their tribe three times. Even as thick-skulled as they are, they're smart enough to notice a pattern.

By getting them to leave the Mojave, the courier kind of turns them into Australia... A national built by "bad" people that can actually turn into something good. The Khans need people like Lem among their ranks....Oddly enough, they also need people like "Jerry the Punk", even if they don't know it. People with a conscience, people that prize things other than strength and combat prowess. Lem can either waste his life doing slave labor in a prison, making rich men richer and having the stigma of being a "convict" for the rest of his life, or he can join the Khans and do his part in forging a new society. Regardless of what people like Lem "deserve", I think the world gains more by sending him to join the Khans, and getting the Khans to become something more than a gang of tough-guy drug dealers.

In the end I did what you did and inspired then to head out and find new land to conquer and then form a government with. It was great to actually get the chance to do this since I'm the first 2 games your character wipes them out

This reminds me a bit of an experiment in a mental asylum where they had a sane test person as a patient. His part in the experiment was to convince the staff that he is perfectly sane and that they should let him go. Apparently he didn't succeed and was stuck in the asylum until the experiment was blown off
If I'm not mistaken, they actually gave him PTSD and some ticks because they managed to start convincing him that he was sick before the experiment finished.
Quite possible that a creature ate them or if they were skeletons, the powder gangers threw them somewhere or put them somewhere. Maybe a place we can't reach.

dividing the people along identifiers was the larges cause of the paranoia outbreak. the most interesting thing about the vault 19 experiment is the real world reflection in the division of red/blue. we see this in our political spectrum, with red saying blue just whats a dictatorship. blue saying reds are just racist. i can go into it more but your smart enough to draw the parallels.
This experiment actually reminded me of Gothman's infamous 1960's experiment where he, and a few others, presented themselves to an asylum with a specific set of 'symptoms' to illustrate that the the line between 'sanity' and 'insanity' was so poorly defined that society, including 'educated professionals' could not tell a sane person from an 'insane' person. The experiment was unfortunately to successful. The staff were unable to spot the difference between his research group and those considered mentally ill. Actually many of Vault tech experiments seem too mirror either those of ww2 Germany or 1960's America; both periods of which cause revolutions in how ethics were applied and enforced in research...

Ironically you could effectively make Cooke fight for the NCR by allying the Powder Gangers with the Great Khans and then the latter with the NCR later under Regis
@drrobocar6459 Unfortunately no. Cooke will leave Vault 19, disappearing from the game, after you check in with Lem about destroying the deposits. Either you side with Lem and Cooke runs off or side with Cooke and he has Lem murdered.
@drrobocar6459 Oh, right. Sorry, I misunderstood. The answer is yes, that's totally a possibility. There is no actual effect on the game, but thematically the Great Khans would have increased ranks and weaponry to help the NCR at Hoover, and unlike with Cooke, attempting to do this likely wouldn't split the Powder Gang and the Great Khans, because I would assume Cooke would leave with some of his followers once he heard he'd be working for the NCR.
There were some lines from entries in the Red Overseer's office that were sadly cut. It revealed not only he wasn't in on the thing (he knew there was an experiment but he didn't know the records were bogus), but he and the Blue Overseer were not supposed to be seen with each other, so he was going to try to ask through the terminals. It also mentioned how he went to the Blue wing to try to find the source of some noise and even if he couldn't, it could be good for the experiment if he was seen walking around.
In my game, the powder gangers at the beginning were sleeping in the small shack, so I snuck in and threw dynamite and grenades into the room that they were sleeping in... The aftermath was horrendous.
I found this vault experiment oddly hilarious! The fact that the people in the vault were convinced that they were instituted in blue sector and the reds convinced that the blues were up to no good all over fake records from an insane asylum? Ingenious! And the person freaking out about the blue star bottle cap was Priceless!
As you said, the best ending for them really depends on if you convince the Khans to leave the region and go to Wyoming to reconnect with the Followers. But if you don't, the prison life is a chance too i guess.
Hey ox, I know you probably hear this alot but I want you to know how much I appreciate all the effort you go to in order to make these videos. You've provided me with so much information and entertainment. I appreciate everything you do.
The whole experiment at Vault 19 reminds me of a story I loved as a kid. Dr. Suess's The Sneetches. People being rude and nasty to each other without even having a reason. The only reason being that they're blue and were red! They have a plain belly and we have stars!
Fun fact: you can find enough blocks of C4 in the first two levels of the vault to seal off the cave. If memory serves, one block is in the diner, one in the clinic and one in the pool room in the lower level. Three blocks is enough to complete Len's request of rendering the sulfure caves inaccessible. I think you needed like 5 blocks to blow up the whole damn vault too.
Game: "I haven't slept in a week and I'm getting headaches." Oxhorn: "Could they be pumping gas into the Vault?" Yep. That's clearly the only explanation, and not that he hasn't slept in a week and headaches are a natural consequence of that.

I loved helping the great Khans love their tribal culture, just chilling and relaxing, selling chems, hunting and gathering, I would roleplay as a scavenger hunter and gatherer especially hunting and gathering making stuff at campfires to sell at the great Khans merchant south of red rock canyon making it feel like I'm supporting my tribe lol
What Vault-Tec did to these people is a very harmful type of psychological abuse called 'gaslighting'. It's when someone says and does things that slowly cause another person to doubt their own sanity. We still don't know enough to understand why gaslighting is so psychologically harmful, often more so than many other types of physical and psychological abuse.
Absolutely love this channel! It's one thing to play these games but another to be able to sit back and relax and watch a story unfold. Not having to worry about fighting enemies or doing different tasks.Great GREAT WORK! Would love to see oxhorn play through all vaults especially the Gary vault in fallout 3. Great video. You're always so thorough! I love the fallout games and always want to get into uncovering the mini-stories behind the other vaults or unique characters and locations - but I don't have the patience a lot of times or just get freaked out by some of the hard fights with creepy things. My suggestion is get your hands on enough caps to buy paciencia or Medicine Stick early on. Trust me, you will no regret it. The crit damage multiplier on them makes them quite effective against deathclaws
It's interesting to me they used "Red" and "Blue". Sure, that's a common combination of colors for two different teams, but America has been fighting a war against the Communist Red for years. I'm sure that has some effect, even subconsciously, on the whole paranoia thing.

No offense to the modder, but the mod you are using that alters NPC's faces is confusing and disappointing. There was nothing wrong with the vanilla NPC's faces that I grew to admire and recognize over years of playing this game. In fact the new faces don't seem to fit the voices as well as the old ones did.

I have a theory. So, at 12:48 the terminal log involves the sunset sarsaparilla star bottle caps. Now, the theory is that Vault 19 is full of insane asylum convicts. Now, who is the man hunting for the sunset sarsaparilla stat bottle caps? A man named Allen Marks, who the Lone Wanderer is warned about when he is first introduced to the Sunset Sarsparilla Bottle caps. Now, in Allen’s backstory he is listed as a crazed murderer who hunts down the star bottle caps, and kills those who possesses them. This could just be a coincidence, but It seems very likely that Allen Marks was one of the dwellers at Vault 19 Edit: Made this comment before I finished the video. If they weren’t from an insane asylum, they were still driven to insanity so I think it still fits.

This reminds me a bit of an experiment in a mental asylum where they had a sane test person as a patient. His part in the experiment was to convince the staff that he is perfectly sane and that they should let him go. Apparently he didn't succeed and was stuck in the asylum until the experiment was blown off
Sanity is not statistical the person could've very well been crazy in the eyes of some people
If I'm not mistaken, they actually gave him PTSD and some ticks because they managed to start convincing him that he was sick before the experiment finished.

dividing the people along identifiers was the larges cause of the paranoia outbreak. the most interesting thing about the vault 19 experiment is the real world reflection in the division of red/blue. we see this in our political spectrum, with red saying blue just whats a dictatorship. blue saying reds are just racist. i can go into it more but your smart enough to draw the parallels.

This experiment actually reminded me of Gothman's infamous 1960's experiment where he, and a few others, presented themselves to an asylum with a specific set of 'symptoms' to illustrate that the the line between 'sanity' and 'insanity' was so poorly defined that society, including 'educated professionals' could not tell a sane person from an 'insane' person. The experiment was unfortunately to successful. The staff were unable to spot the difference between his research group and those considered mentally ill. Actually many of Vault tech experiments seem too mirror either those of ww2 Germany or 1960's America; both periods of which cause revolutions in how ethics were applied and enforced in research...

@drrobocar6459 Unfortunately no. Cooke will leave Vault 19, disappearing from the game, after you check in with Lem about destroying the deposits. Either you side with Lem and Cooke runs off or side with Cooke and he has Lem murdered.

@drrobocar6459 Oh, right. Sorry, I misunderstood. The answer is yes, that's totally a possibility. There is no actual effect on the game, but thematically the Great Khans would have increased ranks and weaponry to help the NCR at Hoover, and unlike with Cooke, attempting to do this likely wouldn't split the Powder Gang and the Great Khans, because I would assume Cooke would leave with some of his followers once he heard he'd be working for the NCR.
I like it when Oxhorn narrates the vault logs and messages. He has a good voice for it. Great inflection.
There were some lines from entries in the Red Overseer's office that were sadly cut. It revealed not only he wasn't in on the thing (he knew there was an experiment but he didn't know the records were bogus), but he and the Blue Overseer were not supposed to be seen with each other, so he was going to try to ask through the terminals. It also mentioned how he went to the Blue wing to try to find the source of some noise and even if he couldn't, it could be good for the experiment if he was seen walking around.
In my game, the powder gangers at the beginning were sleeping in the small shack, so I snuck in and threw dynamite and grenades into the room that they were sleeping in... The aftermath was horrendous.

I found this vault experiment oddly hilarious! The fact that the people in the vault were convinced that they were instituted in blue sector and the reds convinced that the blues were up to no good all over fake records from an insane asylum? Ingenious! And the person freaking out about the blue star bottle cap was Priceless!
As you said, the best ending for them really depends on if you convince the Khans to leave the region and go to Wyoming to reconnect with the Followers. But if you don't, the prison life is a chance too i guess.

The whole experiment at Vault 19 reminds me of a story I loved as a kid. Dr. Suess's The Sneetches. People being rude and nasty to each other without even having a reason. The only reason being that they're blue and were red! They have a plain belly and we have stars!

Fun fact: you can find enough blocks of C4 in the first two levels of the vault to seal off the cave. If memory serves, one block is in the diner, one in the clinic and one in the pool room in the lower level. Three blocks is enough to complete Len's request of rendering the sulfure caves inaccessible. I think you needed like 5 blocks to blow up the whole damn vault too.

I loved helping the great Khans love their tribal culture, just chilling and relaxing, selling chems, hunting and gathering, I would roleplay as a scavenger hunter and gatherer especially hunting and gathering making stuff at campfires to sell at the great Khans merchant south of red rock canyon making it feel like I'm supporting my tribe lol

What Vault-Tec did to these people is a very harmful type of psychological abuse called 'gaslighting'. It's when someone says and does things that slowly cause another person to doubt their own sanity. We still don't know enough to understand why gaslighting is so psychologically harmful, often more so than many other types of physical and psychological abuse.

My suggestion is get your hands on enough caps to buy paciencia or Medicine Stick early on. Trust me, you will no regret it. The crit damage multiplier on them makes them quite effective against deathclaws

No offense to the modder, but the mod you are using that alters NPC's faces is confusing and disappointing. There was nothing wrong with the vanilla NPC's faces that I grew to admire and recognize over years of playing this game. In fact the new faces don't seem to fit the voices as well as the old ones did.

At 15:10 , regarding the kid's journal entry - this is not likely an indicator of paranoia among the children, but rather a reflection of the fact that children can hear higher pitches than older people can. While the higher frequencies may have had some effects on older residents, these frequencies would only be audible to the youngest residents.

I have a theory. So, at 12:48 the terminal log involves the sunset sarsaparilla star bottle caps. Now, the theory is that Vault 19 is full of insane asylum convicts. Now, who is the man hunting for the sunset sarsaparilla stat bottle caps? A man named Allen Marks, who the Lone Wanderer is warned about when he is first introduced to the Sunset Sarsparilla Bottle caps. Now, in Allen’s backstory he is listed as a crazed murderer who hunts down the star bottle caps, and kills those who possesses them. This could just be a coincidence, but It seems very likely that Allen Marks was one of the dwellers at Vault 19
Edit: Made this comment before I finished the video. If they weren’t from an insane asylum, they were still driven to insanity so I think it still fits.
