Cables, Reid and Lewis recorded in 2004 a beautiful homage to Dexter Gordon, issued in 2006 with the title 'Letter to Dexter'. In the CD, at the beginning of Polka Dots and Moonbeams, the very same words which Dexter had said in this 1977 live performance are repeated. This is very moving.
George Cables shines here as all Dexter's piano accompaniment is great .. 1977 finds him back in the States at the forefront of the Mini Jazz Renaissance ( approx 1976 to 1985)😢
Cables is a truly great piano player-his collaboration with Art Pepper his magnificent and he used to call Cables, rightly, 'Mr. Beautiful'...Maybe he was Pepper's favourite pianist

recording quality is so good
Dexter Gordon arguably the greatest ballad player of all time. The cadenza at the end of Old Folks brings tears to my eyes.
He is the greatest along with Art Pepper and Chet Baker, in my opinion
