I am an old fart who knows very little of modern music. I love Sabbath, Priest, Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer, Morbid Angel. But surely this has to be one of the best albums in the 2010s. The modern metal, growls, clean singing, 80s Depeche Mode influence, dark symphony orchestra sounds… so versatile and complex, yet it flows so naturally and effortlessly. The songs are great and nothing seems to be used excessively. Never heard anything like it before. Wonderful album.
If you haven't heard Slice the Cake - Odyssey to the West, I heavily recommend it. I often flip between these two albums

I love Michael Keenans voice! I wish he sang more actually. Just saw these guys play here in Mesa Arizona. Such a great show nee players in the band did a great performance. Black Star is one of my favorites
This has been released years ago but even after hundreds of listens, I keep coming back to thinking how great of a master piece this is.
This whole album is really something special.
I think this is really best Metal song ever. Meshuggah is also very good, like Demiurge or Bleed, but this voice, lovely. 😍

Kick drum volume 11
The first time I listened to this, I had my volume almost cranked through the headphones....Those kick drums are more brutal on the ears than a click track rolling at 100% volume. Love the song as a whole, but I really hope they remix the drums a bit. Add some more low end to the kick drums with EQ'ing, and reduce the poppy trigger sound/over-compression. Still a better mix then I could ever dream of throwing together....The bass in this track sounds killerrrrr.
Is it because they put the bass under the kick in the mix?

I really dig this. Nothing sexier than a fretless bass sound. I should be mad at the drum mix, but the snare makes it okay. They sound like Mangini's mix on Dream Theater's self titled album, but without that godawful snare.

As a fan of Cynic, Opeth, EXTOL, BTBAM, or even.. Dream Theater, i have zero problem with their clean vocal since planetary duality.

It's not only that, he makes good cleans like the bands you are mentioning. Not everyone that can manage that.

This is great. I still feel the clean singing is a little over-played, but I'm a self-confessed Planetary Duality fanboy through and through so that might go some way to explaining my position.

Meh, I bet they had it recorded like around a year ago.
Yorick Mori Recording for everything but Mike's vocals were finished in 2016. Heard an unmixed version without any of Mike's vocals last year. The album's pretty fucking good (although one track has me worried, there were almost no vocals from Ken, and it sounded almost old school Periphery-ish in the riffing, so I'm concerned with how Mike's vocals will sound on that particular track).
Regardless of what anybody says, a good and true fan will; learn to appreciate and enjoy the direction in which the band has gone. Or accept that this is the direction their creativity took them and maybe it's just not what you initially like about their first record(s).
IMO, as a fan since PD, I really like this new stuff! It's everything they were but we're getting the picture of how they can evolve and blend what they've done with stuff no ones doing. Summer Slaughter favorite!

Ayee they're finally back! Sounds like they're going for a more Prog Metal approach then their usual Tech Death Metal but I can dig that too, loving the Cynic-esque vocals and bass undertones, also some parts sorta remind me of BoO's "A Higher Place" a bit. Can't wait for new material from these dudes, been such a long time for them to finally get a 4th full length!

Honestly, it sounds a lot different than their previous work. But I like how the Faceless can change their sound so rapidly and still have it sound so good.

I have loved The Faceless since they were full on deathcore. and i will carry on loving them even though they have moved onto progcore, Because I love shit like this. I fucking love the way they write music. I Love how the vocals ring out as if Michael is standing over a crevasse and just sweetly singing his heart out and letting it echo out through the dark shadows. Deathcore is Deathcore, but in my humble opinion TF has evolved and there are so many layers and creative aspects about their writing that just makes me tingle inside when listening to them play. The shift from death or metalcore to lighter prog and clean vocals and soulful guitar noodling is like a slow twisting rollercoaster into nothingness.
