Ends up a LOT cheaper than buying something like a Mac Pro, specially here in Australia where Apple charges from $500 - $1500 more than the US price. The last time I overhauled my PC was about 15 months ago, it cost me around $1800 for the PC and another $800 for the Dell U2711 IPS panel LCD, which should be cheaper now.
1080p is not the highest, this camera is a midpro cinema camera, it shoots in 4k for "the cinema (theaters)" movie companys dont shoot theyre videos onto 1080p because that resolution is too small for the big ass screens at the cinema. they shoot in 4k video so it fits the screen in the cinema.

4k is the image size that you get. 1k=1080p=(1920x1080) image size (an hd tv of today) 4k=2160p=(4096×2160) image size (and hd tv of today multiplied by 2 ) 4k is used for cinemas, so that the image fits the screens at the movie theater. if you put a 1080p onto the theater, the video will look VERY BAD. the higher quality you go the better, the highest you can go right now is 16k which is ultra expensive. 16k=8640p=(15360x8640) (an hd tv of today multiplied by 8)
The cost is this camera is in the bleeding edge electronics...and the intellectual property (ie REDCODE compression). The real problem of 'quality' is one of information. To those who say the 5D is superior...ha ha ha. Do you realize that the same sensor in this (Scarlet) camera is currently being used by Peter Jackson (Epic) to shoot The Hobbit? If you want more frame rate at high rates...you need faster an wider data pipelines = more money. Simple as that.
ave been trying to use my view finder which is the red bomb evf on my scarlet x but the red bomb evf keep showing some kind colour bar diff colours in square what is the problem
Why do so many people want to buy? Rent, make some calculations how much you actually use it, and by renting you are not committing to one camera for its lifetime. Why are people comparing this to DSLR? This is a production professional camera. Also how many people actually need 4K in their projects... does that make business sense? Is that going to make post production slower? Can you grade RED, storage, GPU cards etc. those are the questions people need to ask. Then decide by renting!

There are more worlds and ways to show videos, and i dont mean vimeo heh, when u are developing Bluray footage, or a simply dvd, u will need to handle more precisely the data of the video, out of the border of a dslr capability. The decision is in your needs ^^
You dont really need two people to operat the Red Scarket. The Camera has a nice and customer friendly menu. I dont see the point where you could / should need a second person for shooting when the camera is built up with the side handle.
i am not a 8 year old kid xD and i do know the difference's ! its just that in 1080p on youtube i cant really see any diffrence between a red and 5D Mark II !

@BijouCinema 1k is not 1080p. It's lower than 720p. And a lot of movies shot at 1080 look good at a theater

you need like 3 one to load and offload data one to do composision and the other person pulls focus or other wise known as the "focus puller".

If you can't afford a powerful workstation, I don't think you can afford this Scarlet nor should you be shooting 4k.

It's a super 35 so I think a 1.35 crop factor, it's not too bad
