    You can adjust the steering feel from heavy to light on your driver profile if needed. Also, dynamic mode really wakes that thing up. You can even add a Polestar tune from Volvo to add more power. I just bought my wife a new Volvo XC90 Inscription and wow! I've always liked Volvo, but I am blown away by the XC90. That engine is deceivingly quick! The ride is so smooth, you don't feel the acceleration like in other cars, but once you look down at the spedo...yeah, 70mph comes really quick. Those Vikings can really build a car! I think they actually use Thor's hammer to build them....
    I'll give my Volvo story here. I am a Sheriff's Deputy and respond to collisions multiple times a night. One night at around 0200hrs, I was dispatched to a roll over crash on a back road and expected the need for extraction based on other roll overs I've been to. When I arrived on scene, there was a Volvo, upside down on its top without a dent anywhere. Usually the A-pillars will break and the C-pillars, but this thing rolled several times and nothing broke. The tow truck just rolled it back onto its wheels and off it went with suspect's mother behind the wheel. I've seen many more with Volvo's in collisions and they are literally little tanks. Suburban's do quite well too, especially in head-on collisions. I will never drive a little car after all the collisions I've responded to over the last 20 years.

    Joe, there is a reason why Volvo ONLY puts Manual Tilting steering wheels this is done mainly for safety. After multiple crash test reports Volvo has noted that the power-adjustable steering wheels do NOT fold inwards after a serious accident unlike the manually adjusted ones do.

    • @StephenFogarty2023

    • @lowlanz
      @lowlanz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I bet that's a handy excuse. Volvo used huge C pillars for XC40, which apparently restricts rear sights. If Volvo was so keen on safety that they use manual tilting for a 70k vehicle, they wouldn't have accepted those thick pillars.

Volvo was always built around the factor of safety, the fact their engine cover is made up of soft foam-like material in order to prevent pedestrian head damage to the engine bay should tell you something right away. Maybe, but, most people lease or use the subscription service. Should be perfectly fine for three years. I've had a 2019 S60 T5 and had to have the battery replaced. It was inconvenient (happened over a long weekend) but didn't cost me a dime.
      As for quality, Ford owned Volvo. Since 2010 I think Volvo's been owned by Greeley (Chinese) who've pretty much left them alone. The quality issues have mostly been around the infotainment system (slow to boot, confusing etc.). The next generation will do away with it entirely as they've subcontracted with Google and will have an entirely Google system (see CX 40 Recharge). Just wish they were more affordable.

    Not a competitor to an
    S class or 7 series ?
    Volvo make fantastic cars.
    They are very underrated.
    Volvo should do a lot more marketing and promo of their fantastic vehicles.
    Unfortunately, they are often overlooked and are not considered by people when they go car hunting.
    This is a big shame.
    I do really appreciate that some people have commented to advise that Volvo do NOT ever offer electrically adjustable steering columns, as their very extensive crash testing has shown that a non electric steering column, deforms safer in a crash.

      316 HP from a 2.0 liter turbo/supercharged engine AND hybrid electric motors? Volvo has had significant problems with the reliability of this engine. If you're going to buy anything Volvo (now a Chinese-owned company) stick with the T5 250HP turbo model.

    • @2steaksandwiches665
      @2steaksandwiches665 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Their 4 cylinder is extremely course and rough. That may not be their fault due to the inherent nature of a four-cylinder engine. But that’s the route they chose. I had an XC90 As a loaner with that engine and my wife and I were very disappointed. We had it for a week and it was enough to make us not want to buy it

    You do so many great reviews Joe...thank you. But I have one ZONK for you: nets on the back of the seats are actually historically a classier touch than the alternative full material, which is always some sort of fake leather or vinyl. The net movement started with high end cars like Mercedes, Porsche, & BMW. They should not consistently be a zonk...in fact you should be noting the classy touch they provide. Yes it's an objective thing, but so is the difference between a Timex and a TAG. My advice is to stop zonking the nets as they really are a classier look and touch than vinyl. Otherwise...I always enjoy your reviews!

    Just a note. Volvo doesn’t make electrically adjustable steering wheels because of safety. In case of a crush, an electronic system to move the column is more prone to fail instead of a mechanical one. That's why.

  • @robyoungquist5803
    @robyoungquist5803 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Joe ... the reason the steering wheel is NOT an electric one is because Volvo deems it UNSAFE. The manual adjustment is due to safety design. The engineers were not able to get the steering column and mechanisms to collapse out of the way in a frontal crash with an electronically adjustable unit, given wiring harnesses and connections. The manual column completely snaps and drops under, and out of harms way.

    I really love this car. I had a 2018 and just bought a 2023. Not that it matters but you keep calling it a European car. Granted that is the heritage but Volvo is now owned by Geely which is a Chinese car company. In fact, both of my S90s were assembled in China and imported to the United States.
