      I really REALLY want to talk about Gorgonopsids in depth! And in addition they will definitely be getting talked about when I get to the Permian in the History of the Earth series. As far as a dedicated video I have a very specific and special plan in mind but it will probably take me more than a single week to write/record and edit such a video. Stay tuned though because it's definitely on my to do list.

      *Charmander* is the best red/blue starter Pokemon. 😁👍

    This kinda reminds me of the only trilobite in it's genus named after the Han people in China, which has been given species name solo(by a very Star Wars loving paleontologist). More geeky paleontology facts are always good!

  • @wcdeich4

    Thrinaxodon would be cool to go over :) Both Thrinaxodon & Lystrosaurus appear to have survived the Permian - Triassic extinction by having populations in Antarctica (southern Pangaea at the time), but unlike the dicynodonts, Thrinaxodon (or something closely related to it) would eventually give rise to us mammals :)

    • @wcdeich4
      @wcdeich4 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If there is not enough information about Thrinaxodon as an individual species, you might other cynodonts, like Cynognathus :)

      If that is the case, and GameFreak actually designed a pokemon based on a dicynodont way back in 1996, and then a actual dicynodont was named after the pokemon in 2017, that would make this all the cooler.

    Thank you for that amazing disclaimer! So hilarious and well said! I seriously got so angry when people began "debunking" Jurassic Park several years ago, or claimed the writers got things wrong when they were working with what information was available at that time. A film by the way that supported the connection between dinosaurs and modern day birds, a theory which was not widely accepted at that time. On that note, what would you think about covering the topic of Deinocheirus? It's a somewhat recent discovery, and there's been a lot of debate about what it's diet was.

    Oh, how I wish I'd encountered this channel sooner! Most other channels fall into two categories, ones aimed at people with only a passing interest in the subject, often riddled with inaccuracies that even a modicum of research would have corrected, and those aimed at people who have studied the subject to some degree, and dense with technical stuff that those in the middle get lost in.
    This channel, however, nicely encapsulates the middle ground- intelligent and well researched, and couched in every day but precise language. Whilst there is detail, it isn't subject specific to the point only paleontologists can understand it. There is also a good seasoning of humour, too, which always helps.
    All in all, I'm loving this channel and its content, and wish more makers would give consideration to those of us who fall between the idiots and the nerds!

    First of all, I want to express my regret that you have apparently been attacked by trolls about videos that are now out of date. TIM TIM, I SALUTE YOU!!!
    Now, to my questions.
    As a child, I remember reading in a picture book that Brachyasauruses (or Brontosauruses?) were such lumbering behemoths that they needed large bodies of water to help support their weight.
    Is the term Brachyasaurus still a part of the paleontological lexicon?
    When did paleontologists decide that Sauropods (correct term?) did not need water to help support their bodies?
    Keep up your work, and don't let the trolls wear you down! 😄

  • @vapertainment5313
    @vapertainment5313 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Could you imagine if dycynodons (not a paleontologist) weren't in fact different species but instead had similar environmental pressure expressions like grasshoppers? Because grasshoppers are locust, so is it possible, even if improbable, that species like this could be triggered in upbringing to display traits that after their discovery years later lead us to attribute them incorrectly to different species? Probably not for them specifically, but I would be surprised if no other species in the fossil record had that trait. This thought shares a room rent free with my fascination in the lack of juvenile tyrannosaurus fossils out there.

    I'm somewhat conflicted on the name. On the one hand it'd be really cool if bulbasaur was the real reason it got its name, but on the other the discoverer refraining from out right saying it probably means it wasn't the case (I swear if the pikachu and sonic based proteins and a species of Jamaican frogs called mountain chickens weren't enough evidence that naming nomenclature wouldn't prevent the guy from outright admitting it if it's the case, then I dunno what else could prevent them from being honest about it).

  • @petergerdes1094

    Somehow the way the images of Permian creatures are drawn (not just here, everywhere) makes them seem primitive and unfinished. I suspect that's just an effect of how little we know but it's surely part of the reason we see these creatures as primitive.

    "Bulbasaur, objectively the best choice. Fight me."
    Very well then. Despite the strong lead Bulbasaur then Ivysaur has over the first three gyms it's lack of coverage holds it back ESPECIALLY in the region where Psychic types are busted as fuck even in the remake. The real best choice is Squirtle because even though there are lots of decent water types available, Blastoise's defenses give it the most positive matchups and it is able to learn ice moves which give it fantastic coverage.

We tend to think of bighorn sheep slamming skulls but what if two males slowly got into each other's face and became a pushing match?

    Only just saw this one, but I am playing Pokemon Blue again on my GB emulator; Bulbasaur is totally the best starter Pokemon.
    When I was 10, I thought Bulbasaur was the best because plant type Pokemon are awesome.
    When I was 20, I thought Bulbasaur was the best because the first four gyms in order have rock, water, electric, and plant types. This means that you have advantage on the first three and a mutual disadvantage on the fourth. By the time you get to Fuchsia City, you should have enough other Pokemon to no longer need the starter advantage.
    Now that I'm in my 30s, I think Bulbasaur is the best because plant type Pokemon are awesome.

    In some fanfic roleplays I do with friends, I doubled down on the idea of Bulbasaur being a therapsid to the point I actually worked the idea that while its hybrid plant/animal physiology is still a mystery; fossil evidence showed that it was how and why the bulbasaur family survived not just the Permian but the entirety of the Mesozoic to the modern day. The pokedex states even in its base form, Bulbasaur can go long periods without food as it will metabolize the seeds in its bulb if necessary. That would be vital in the late Permian especially, and even during parts of the Triassic and Jurassic, not to mention the K-T extinction on top of it all. Venusaur meanwhile gets the bulk of its energy strictly via photosynthesis.
