      Unnecessary exposition, as the producers thought. The movie hints at the whole process of cut-the-heart, become-captain enough for this scene to not be needed.

      Imo Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) was a better antagonist than Davy Jones. The reason Gollum (Andy Serkis) was such a great character is bc he was pitiable. Davy Jones is a box-standard villain, albeit a great one. I like villains who straddle the line btw good and bad. Just my 2 cents.

      @@franknb7827we’re splitting hairs at this point if we’re comparing the performances of Serkis, Rush and Nighy. Each of those men are monoliths in the acting business that have set the standard for the believability of truly imposing characters.
      Tho I will agree with you that Jones is more of a standard baddie that was elevated to greatness by Bill’s performance, and that Rush’s Barbosa is much more compelling because of the nuance Rush brought to the character. The conflict he goes through throughout the series is stunning, and that’s all Geoffrey.

    At World’s End is one of my all-time favorite movies. If this scene were in the finished film, it would vastly improve it. It rectifies so many issues with the movie. It gives Norrington more characterization, explains the heart replacement more elegantly, gives a satisfying yet depressing reason for Governor Swann’s death, shows off more of Jones’ sadism and villainy when most of the film casts him in a rather pathetic light, as well as showing him in a minor rebellion against Beckett, shows more of Norrington chafing under Beckett’s vile command, and is just incredibly paced and acted from all involved. I can think of no other deleted scene in film history that more deserves to be in the movie.

      Absolutely. In fact, the final film just establishes that he was asking many questions about the heart, but that makes no sense because the only ones who know that information were Beckett and Mercer. This does such a great job of showcasing the real difficulty of acting a CG character. All the weird movements Davy Jones does fit perfectly when you watch the movie, but when you watch this video you see a normal guy moving so unnaturally. I bet he never really knew for sure it all worked until he saw it finished.

    These films had no business being that perfect. From screenwriting to directing to acting to cgi that somehow still looks wonderfully convincing, even though it was made in early 00's. They knew exactly how to make things work together.

    back when Disney knew how to make good villains with tragic back stories, think Thanos was the last great Disney villain

    • @Dante02d12
      @Dante02d12 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thanos was terribly written. His idea of removing half the universe doesn't make sense (either bring infinite resource to everyone or remove 99% of the world, otherwise it's ridiculous), and his 180 flip at the end ("I was wrong to spare half the universe, I will kill all of you instead") murdered his character motivation.
      But Davy Jones and Barbossa, those were terrific vilains indeed!

    • @tempestshadow5152
      @tempestshadow5152 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Dante02d12 I agree. Thanos, though incredibly performed by Josh Brolin, had an extremely poorly written motive. Let’s just look at Earth, assume half of 9 billion people were erased and only 4.5 billion were left. Then what? I don’t think a world that highly values work and manpower would settle for half the population gone despite having more resources to pass around. And even countries like China who had a one child policy would probably even incentivize having multiple children just to recuperate. In a couple of years then, the population would probably just go back to what it was, albeit with way more children. Thanos is also an even bigger joke in the comics when you learn that the only reason he wants to wipe out half the universe is because he has the hots for lady Death and that mass genocide is his ultimate form of simping.

    Interesting - it seems at 0:32, it's likely the dialogue was slower, but they sped it up some and fast-forwarded the scene a brief moment. At least that's what it looks like, so I'm not sure if the other 2 still looked natural and still to make that work (along with the smoke and effects in the back possibly being added later)
