How To Make: A Cat/Kitten Sweater

today im going to be showing you how to crochet a cute Cat/Kitten sweater for a female cat from 6 months upwards

This video was great! I made a written pattern with stitch counts because it helps me know where I am and it’s like having captions on a tv show 😂. I am a beginner to crocheting so it’s not the best written pattern but hopefully it can assist someone else!
Key: sl st- slip stitch
ch- chain
Dc- double crochet
Sc- single crochet
P.s: the row counts include the starting chain!!
Collar:
Row 1: slip knot, ch 36 (36)(4:50)
Sl st into first chain (6:40)
Row 2: Ch 3, DC All the way around (36)(7:32)
Sl st into top of prev chain(9:58)
Row 3: Ch 3, Front post, back post DC (36) (end on fp) (10:56)
Sl st into top of prev chain (14:30)
Row 4: Ch 3, Front post, back post DC (36) (end on fp)(15:05)
Sl st into top of prev chain(18:20)
Row 5: Ch 1 sc into same stitch, sc (36)(18:42)
Sl st into 1st sc and color change (20:50)
Base:
Row 6: Ch 3, Dc (36)(22:25)
Sl st into top of prev chain (24:45)
Row 7: Ch 3, Dc (36)(25:03)
Sl st into top of prev chain (25:55)
Row 8: Ch 3, 3DC,inc (45)(26:18)
Sl st into top of prev chain(30:00)
Armholes:
Row 9: Ch 3, 3DC, (30:12)
ch 6, skip 6 stitches, dc into 7th loop, (31:25)
28 DC, (32:35)
ch 6, skip 6 stitches, dc into 7th loop, 2dc (45)(35:05)
Sl st into top of prev chain (36:08)
Row 10 : Ch 3, dc (45)(37:00)
(To see how she Dc into the chain see 38:05)
Sl st into top of prev chain (42:00)
Row 11- whatever: ch 3, dc (45)
Sl st into top of prev chain
(do this as many times as you want for the fit of the cat. Her big size is 9 more rows and her small size is 5 more)
On your last row’s sl st do a color change (45:30)
Shells:
Row 12 (not actually row 12 but the row after you finish the previous step): ch 1, skip 1 stitch then Sc into the next. Skip 1 stitch then Dc 5 into the next (all in one stitch). Skip 1 stitch then sc into the next. (46:50)
*Skip 1 stitch then Dc 5 into the next. Skip 1 stitch then sc into the next. (49:40)- *repeat til you get to the end (she finished with 11 shells but I got 12 so I’m not sure how many you’re supposed to have)
On the last shell instead of sc at the end, slip stitch into the first sc of the first shell (skip the ch 1) (53:50)
Row 13: slip stitch into the back of the first shell. See video (54:50)
*Ch 6, slip stitch into the back of the next shell- *repeat until you get to the end(55:50)
On the last chain slip stitch into the first slip stitch of the row (1:00:40)
Row 14: *6Dc into the chain then slip stitch into the slip stitch of the previous row- *repeat until you get to the end (1:01:10)
(Last slip stitch and finish off > 1:04:08)
Armhole trim:
Row 1: bring yarn through a loop of the armhole and ch 2, then dc all the way around (1:06:48)
Sl st into the top of the ch 2 (1:09:25)
Ch 1, fasten off (1:09:53)
Repeat for second armhole.

at first i was thrown off by how long the video was, i thought it was gonna be a long process with a lot of detailing but it was actually pretty easy and didnt take as much time as i thought it would. i made it for my cat and he looked adorable so thank uu!!

I have a male cat who I think loves the color pink very much like me, there is no such thing as specific colors for different genders and my cat proves my point
I've had a lot of comments about cats don't care if the outfit is coloured pink or blue or whatever colour ..the video was intended as an example not to say you have to have pink for a girl or whatever ..I would appreciate less petty comments on here..this is a tutorial purely to make a Cat or kittn outfit ..it is an example tailor it as you like ..but please no comments that are not productive or positive..only positive comments pls..much appreciated. also thank you to everyone who have made some lovely comments..always here to help if anyone needs help with their crochet skills

My cat ended up looking so cute in his little sweater but the only problems were the neck, it was a bit tight but we stretched it out to make it a bit loose and the arms were a bit small as well so we also had to stretch that out because my cat kept on walking backwards and walking very awkwardly but other than that we love and I don’t think he minds it at all! 😂

If i need to make the neck bigger should I just increase the amt of chains at the start? my cats 15 and fully grown
Yes do increase the amount of chains 😊
44:10 should i inc or dec for this part and further ? and for checkered pattern, should i make it solid cube or a bit tilted since it got inc in the pattern and might make it shifted a bit from the pattern.
No increases at this stage but the cube won't be exactly solid if there are increases in pattern so bear that in mind ..I will make a video on a checkered pattern soon for a cat 🐈 so you can have an idea how to make one

Is it possible to crochet a small sweater using one skein? I want the sweater in one colour and want to know how many skeins to buy.

I made the neck of it and tried to put it on my cat because he is pretty big an I was suspicious it wouldn’t fit, which it didn’t. He’s only 8 months old but pretty beefy. Is there any way to size up the pattern without making it confusing or using different hook and yarn?
yes certainly you can go up a hook size and you can also do more chains to start with ,make sure you do a multiple of 4 ive done 36 chains but you can maybe do 40 and just measure the chain around the kittens neck and see if it fits before crocheting ,i hope that helps .Happy Crocheting !

@@zaipikachu I would try with a smaller hook perhaps a 3mm hook and also reduces the number of the foundation chains ..do 32 or 34 chains measure around the neck of kitten and make sure the head can go in and out comfortably then do the exact same pattern but less rows so its shorter in length..hope that helps
It’s cute! But I feel like you measured it before hand. My cat is different, he is very fat. I tried to make it bigger, but the scale doesn’t seem right. Do you have a scale for it?
i made the chain to fit around the cats neck and worked from there but if your cat is fatter or chunky measure your chain around his or her neck first and make it an even number ,because cats are all shapes and sizes its trial and error if you do a few rows up till the arm hole and try it on the cat you will see if its going to fit

I'm a beginner crocheter and really want to make this sweater but my kitty is on the larger size and I'm concerned/confused about making the sweater bigger while still following the pattern. I don't want to follow the video just for it to not fit in the end. Has anybody else sized it up a little and could possibly offer some guidance/tips? Thank you in advance!
mine is too lol! i would make the beginning number of chains u start with more than 36 especially if ur using a different yarn, u can try different # of chains and connect them to see which one fits ur cats neck best
i used different hook/yarn size than the video but i definitely chained at least 40 cuz my cat is big, if u have any clothes for ur cat u could use it as a reference

Yes you could do it checkered ..working checkered around the armholes might be tricky but I would certainly give it a go !🥰
