Oh my gosh Jean........every time I watch you I am in awe of your creative talent! I know you have been painting for a long time, but your ability to just drop in color, and ink, and make such a beautiful painting just amazes me! I wish I would not have waited so long to realize how much I love to draw and paint. You inspire me to keep going, trying and improving, thank you!
I love this! The way you mixed the grays were beautiful. I hate when rocks are all grey or all brown. You added texture, light, contrast and dimension. Thanks for sharing!
You were absolutely spot on when you added burnt sienna at the end. That dash of color transformed that painting. Appreciate your little tutorial on greys. Thank you.
This is helping me so much! Just learning about grey’s & never knew could use blue, red & yellow to make grey’s! Love the pallet & as long as carefully w plastic lid much better than tiny ones! Just amazing how you painted such a beautiful painting using the grey’s!
I am absolutely thrilled that you've been posting regularly over the past month. I purchased your landscape course and your floral course---LOVE THEM! I also watch on Skillshare. Please keep up the posts, they really make the days a bit more fun during these gloomy times. Thank you♥️!
I tried watercolors for many years, but I was never satisfied. I switched to acrylics, and I’m much more comfortable. But I love the look of watercolor. It is so unique. I’ve been watching a few watercolor videos lately. Makes me want to give it a try again. Thanks for the videos. 😊
I have a similar palette for bigger paintings, lets me mix big washes easily. I keep a teeny bit of damp sponge in it, that keeps tube paints juicy for longer. They say this can encourage mould growing in some humid climates, but not a problem for me. I used to glue the sponge to the inside lid and just spray it with water occasionally, but then found it easier to leave it loose in whichever well was empty after a session. It was a sea sponge my daughter found on a beach near us, so it’s practical and sentimental in equal measure! Thanks for a great painting lesson.
Roslyngal I had a watercolor teacher who recommended this as well and she had her students get a real elephant ear sea sponge and used the sponge to clean the leftover wet paint off the palette but leave it damp just in the middle of the palette and put the lid on until the next time of use. It did keep my paints ready to use. They were not rock hard but softened. I still do this.
I love you! I am a neophyte watercolorist. I love the muted earthy colors. Your paintings are the kind I someday I hope to do. Craggy rocks are one of my big favorites. This is fantastic.
The rock face you paint in this video is my absolute favourite of your all videos, Jean❤️ The rock face itself is so like the Quarry on my daughter & her hubbies property. You can see the blue among the grey in certain light and has just the one gnarly looking tree at the top. I've had a few attempts to copy your piece but have discovered I'm very heavy handed when it comes to landscapes! I note how few strokes you make and the various directions you place them to built up perspective and depth but my brush takes on a life of its own and spoils my work - very frustrating! I've done a huge amount of painting homes inside & out throughout my life & have figured my hand & brain need retraining😫 😂 Anyways, I'll keep at it until I'm happy with what I create.
I just discovered your channel. Your paintings are gorgeous! I love how you just let the watercolor do its magical thing. And the colors - such beautiful grays, and then that slash of burnt sienna. Lovely!
Jean, you are wonderful. I love the Daniel Smith grey granulated watercolors. I need to ask you...I have spent a lot of $$$ on watercolors in their pans as opposed to tubes. I will be experimenting. However, Daniel Smith and Mijello Golden paints look wonderful as well. Please give me your opinion. I love painting landscapes. I'm going to order the first two grey's you have mentioned by Daniel Smith. I had to order paynes gray the other day. You are marvelous, and incredibly helpful. 🥰👍🎨
I have not tried Mijello paints so cannot make the comparison. I can say that Daniel Smith paints are now my favorite and I only use fresh paint in my paintings.
I love neutrals as well after taking a Stephen Quiller watercolor class. He challenges his students to do a painting using only neutrals. It was fun and so interesting to do. Your rock face painting is perfect and using the India ink sparingly is so effective that I am going to use my pens and ink more often. Love your round pallet as well and your wonderful tutorial. I am so happy I found your site this morning. Have a beautiful and blessed day from your new admirer in Colorado.
Yet another cracking piece of magical art! Is there a recipe / menu of these mixing combinations please? It's taken me 66 years to learn the colours of the rainbow ... AND ... my wife has always said I've no colour sense (and dress sense!)
Great video - and some lovely greys! Not come across Dr Martin's Bleedproof White - going to check that out, as I have always struggled to find a decent white to cover stuff! Anyway, thanks for posting - enjoyed.
Thank you for this demonstration. Black always seems too harsh to me, so knowing how to mix these grays saves the day. I'm enjoying your abstract landscape class and learning so much from you. Thank you.
Thank you so much for this demo Jean, very very inspiring. I'm holidaying in the highlands of Scotland at the minute and I'm seeing landscapes that are crying out for this type of treatment
Another great demonstration, inspired me to paint a rock face here in Victoria, Australia. The rock face is called The Elephants Hide and it is in the Grampians. I love your paintings. Thank you Jean.
@@JeanLurssen Me too! I would like to buy more but they have become very expensive. I am watching videos by a number of accomplished loose/abstract artists at the moment but there seems something just a bit different about yours!
Love this, I'm a beginner but recently discovered watercolor and I'm obsessed. I don't have all the pro paints but I'm going to try with the cheap stuff I have. If mine is half this good I'll be happy. Thank you
LOVE grays! I find them beautiful also. Btw, Amazon no longer sells your palette. "Unavailable, don't know when or if we'll get this item back." You certainly sold a lot of these! LOL Thank you for the video. So helpful.
@@NYtalk60 Thank you so very much!!! I'll absolutely go there, purchase one. I appreciate your giving me the info. Btw, I'm from RI, looks like you're NY???
Thanks so much for more inspiration! If a person doesn't have India Ink and nib on hand, can i achieve the lines with a rigger and dark pigment? Or is it entirely different with the ink? Thanks!
It would be a little different with watercolor pigment. It's the fact that acrylic ink and watercolor are not compatible and that's why you get the interesting textures.
Too bad, I would have liked how the one you worked on turned out once it was dry. I liked the thing at the bottom left corner, would have liked to see how light it dried.

Really useful and surprising how much variety is possible with a simple colour often overlooked.

Hi Jean
I luv textures in watercolour, and want to know if u prefer india ink or acrylic inks

You do need to scrub that central well with a bit of toothpaste, Jean, if you want the paint to spread out and not shrink into blobs.
Wonderful as usual....I could watch you paint all day! Thanks for these inspiring videos...

geting into pigments name is not confusing, pigment name dwell in time as fabrication component varies. It's the only reference one can be sure of.
